    S4:E5 More fresh new inventory (link down below)! The C3 Chevy Corvette. A generation of Corvette that is really starting to get appreciated by many collectors.
    This example is a 1970 with a matching numbers 350 V8 with the optional 350HP. It also has a matching numbers 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, leather buckets, limited slip differential and much more.
    We have seen the C3's really take off in price (the right cars), making them still affordable with plenty of space for increase in value. C1's and C2's are WAY to expensive and have plateaued. C4's, 5's, etc are still down in the gutter (good future classics), but C3's still have classic lines, very analog, and relatable to a whole new demographic.

    Beautiful car. Just in case you wanted to know, your Corvette does not have the deluxe interior. Deluxe interior would have included cut pile carpet( yours has 80/20 loop),wood grain on the door panels and shifter console, and cut pile carpet on the bottom of the door panels. If you check your trim tag located in the drivers side door jam it will have an interior code at the top. 400 is black vinyl and 403 will be black leather. Someone also spray bombed your front grills black. Great car, great video.

    1970 was a short production year because of the GM strike. I found a matching numbers, running driving 350-350hp 1970 C3 hardtop in a garage sale for $4,500 in the mid 1990s. 42K miles, I should have kept it but the paint was worn and repainting fiberglass sort of spooked me. A good example was only bringing $10-12K back then, so I detailed it and resold it as is. If I had more storage room, I would have kept it.

    This is just, such a gorgeous car. It is fun to drive and with that V8 it's just an earmelter. The 1969 ones are my favourites and it's such a shame that there were only 160 or so made with the L88 engine which is speculated to have made over 500 hp. The saddest thing is that this beast was caged because of the regulations and by the end of its run it made only 200 hp, which is good as many other muscle cars were much more regulated and some made around 90 hp. But still, most of the cars made today, even the ones that aren't made to be fast have over 200 hp.

    The C3's from 68-72 are in my opinion the pinnacle of the Corvette Stingray design...thin fiberglass, chrome and beautiful SHARP lines... a TIMELESS DESIGN. These cars will surpass 1 million dollars soon, as they are being discovered world wide, and their production numbers are very low... only 10k in 1970... 14k in 71 etc... pure Gems.
    p.s. I believe that color is Mulsanne Blue... they brought it back in 1988 called Bright Blue.... Gorgeous.

    The 70 had shoulder harnesses, standard though they were independent of the lap belt. It was in a real located behind the seat. It actually comes through a slot in the seat (see 6:16 min out board slot). The lap belt belt has a post where the the shoulder harness engages. If this was factory leather it would/should have wood grained embossed door panels and center console. Also an opened air cleaner without the snorkel style this car is shown with.

    I bought my yellow '70 rag top in the late '80's and it's still sitting in the garage. It's a survivor, 454, 4 sp., WITH AIR CONDITIONING, PS, matching # block, trans, and rear end with a straight body. 10-15 years ago, I saw a nearly identical one advertised for $50K and perhaps I should have sold it then! The weak link in any C3 is the birdcage. If its bad, you have a parts car. Worst thing I hate is the cramped foot room and hot floorboards. Also they are not very stable over 100 mph and not the best ride quality. Still awesome lines and fun to drive. Nothing like a Corvette.

    That VIN tag on the block should be bare metal, no paint. If its real, it will have factory broach marks from machining. A lot of time when an engine gets rebuilt, they deck the block which wipes off the marks AND the numbers! So people will restamp it. Or...they restamp them to make them a numbers matching engine....which is not good. If you don't care about that stuff and just want to have fun in an older vette......the BEST modification, bar none, that you can do to these cars is an over drive transmission!!! 5 speed manual or a 700-R4/4L60 Auto. It makes everything about the car better. Money well spent modification.

    • @GastonRossato
      @GastonRossato  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True it came bare from factory, but 50 years later it’s not uncommon the engine was pulled out and overhauled/repainted.

  • @SketchyEggs

    A properly sorted c3 handles great (almost as good as a modern car). My 69 is running factory correct suspension, however, I dialed in a lot more caster to increase the on center steering feel. Also, a good set of radials makes a big difference. The car is fairly well balanced and feels very planted even on fast technical roads. However, I've never driven a big block so I would assume the handling would be different. My car is similar to that one in that its 100% numbers matching and original.

    • @larrydrozd2740
      @larrydrozd2740 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also...KYB shocks are about the best "street" shocks for these cars. Doesn't ruin the ride and really improves the handling. The biggest thing to get used to is you're basically sitting in the back seat ....as compared to a regular car. The rear wheel is 3 inched from your back. The engine set back is much farther so the perspective from the driver seat is not the same....hard to explain but you'll notice something isn't "right"....but you get used to it.

Redoing the suspension, adding sound deadening , new carpet, and simply making sure everything works especially the AC. Factory correct numbers matching, both tops in white. Have a black vinyl top. Anyone has an idea of how the value of the '73 would change if I were to change the color to factory Med. Blue? Whites cars always look like they should have a company logo on the door. Oh yeah, great vid.

    This ‘70 is in very nice shape. This car should have shoulder belts as well as lap belts. The shoulder belt comes through the top back of the seat. They must be disconnected in this car by who ever restored it or a previous owner. Many when they put new leather seat covers on the seats don’t bother to reconnect the lap belts. I did the same with my ‘73 Coupe but they are still there if I ever choose to sell the car.

      Passenger side mirror is a relatively newer standard feature for autos, like shoulder belts and antilock brakes. In my 59 Ford F100, there is no key hole on the driver’s side door exterior. The idea was for safety, you unlocked the car from the passenger side and scooted over to the driver side. This kept you out of the driver side next to passing cars.

    What is the definition of a "Numbers Matching Car." Does this include the alternators, water pump, radiator fan set up? Or is it just a reference to power train? Can you have a numbers matching corvette where the heads and intake and ignition changed? What is the difference between a numbers matching and a Survival car?

    • @thud9797
      @thud9797 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All the other parts can be changed to get the right numbers but matching numbers to many means the VIN stamp on the engine and transmission match the VIN of the car. At the assembly plant just before the engine and transmission assembly is installed a worker stamped a derivative of the VIN onto the engine block and transmission and these numbers can't be faked after the fact unless you commit fraud.

    Seat belts were not mandated in Wisconsin, in till the '90s. If your parents abstained, you abstained. Many get the regulation, but don't appreciate the Fed's, mandating anything. We still don't have to wear, a helmet in Wisconsin, while driving our cycles, but it's recommended. That's better, and the way, it should be.

    What cars of that era were known for good handling? We never knew better. We just learned to drive well what we had. I personally think front wheel drive car stink especially if you accelerate in a turn and break the front wheels loose. In the ditch you go. Where as a a rear wheel drive can push the front around the corner if you know what you are doing. Most of the cars back then had mushy front suspension and a lot of body roll. If you want to see terrible, look at the Ford Torino of the day. It takes a special skill to drive junk. Those boys are just spoiled.
