Had the chance to try this Vs a very good tube amplifier and the difference was small. Very musical, fantastic sounding, gorgeous looking and awesome interface. No minuses, JUST PURE ENJOYMENT! And it was just the good old Sennheiser Hd 800, not Susvara, not Rognir or other powerful clean bass machines. Never heard my Hd800 sounding more visceral and engaging! Thanks,Sandu, great review and great opportunity!👍👍🙂
but DC input plug is situated opposite to hypsos dc output, and its very uncomfortable when they stand each on other. i dont understand why they did this so uncomfortable to connect
Awesome, Ferrum stack is the best I've heard as well. It pairs fantastic with Susvara, but even more fantastic with 1266 TC which is an absolute * to find a good pairing for 😂🤠 After weeks of going back and forth between Ferrum, Burson and Cayin ... for me Ferrum sounds most natural, most tonally correct, and I would call it trully neutral and reference even. At the beginning I thought it's warm and full bodied, at the end I concluded that it's just correct compared with other amps that are adding unnatural glare to treble and mids, Ferrum is just clean and natural. This is especially evident if you listen to acoustic music and you know how those instruments really sound like. Strings, guitars and cymbals, all hit home for me on the Ferrum stack.
@@Soundnews I would highly recommend getting a TC especially if you like electronica, metal and bass. It's a weird set if you're coming from Susvara but give it some weeks, see how it behaves with different positioning and it will reward with a sound that is just jaw dropping, especially for large scale live recordings and visceral, dynamic and bass heavy music.
@@krisrudecki9477 Electronica, metal and bass are my second names :) Too bad nobody sells them in my country, nor any of my friends owns one. I will get them eventually.
Very interesting. I own Abyss and Susvara. I was considering Riviera AIC-10 or Feliks Audio Euforia 20th Anniversary edtion. I currently use Woo Audio WA-33 Elite with Chord DAVE. Wonder how this Oor compares to tube amp I have. Have you compared Oor with XI Audio set as Joe from Abyss recommends?
@soundnews Hi Sandu. I know you reviewed Kinki THR-1 long time ago. got an option to buy used ferrum Oor + Hypsos for $1900 vs new Kinki. Can't find a comparison between them. Which one did you enjoy more? Zmf VO and caldera with Ares ii 12th dac user. thanks!
Hey, It's been a long time since I've heard the Kinki THR-1, but even back then it didn't appear very resolving or extra powerful. It won't properly drive the lowest sensitivity headphones and it never rocked in terms of transients (speed & impact). It felt a little slugish/slowish/mellow to me - which subjectively is not my cup of tea. I would get the OOR instead even it's pricier, add the Hypsos later one and forget about headphone amplification until you save for the AMP-23R. This is what I would do.
Question. Is there a chance to compare this with the Benchmark HPA4 and SPL Phonitor XE in the following configurations: 1. Ferrum DAC being the Input Source for the Benchmark HPA4, and the SPL Phonitor XE 1. Ferrum DAC being the Input Source for the Benchmark HPA4. The SPL Phonitor XE uses its own DAC Thanks
Great review! I am still trying to dig for info on anyone that has used just the hypsos with other amps outside of the stack and what their experience has been.
*THANKS again. If I may ask: How will the Ferrum Oor work for and make a difference with the Sennheiser HD800S, ZMF Verite, Audeze LCD-X etc. for instance? Most peple dont have and cant afford a Susvara..*
Amazing review. The stack just looks and feels superb. Do you (or anyone else in this section) have any idea how this headphone amp compares with luxman p-750u? Cheers! keep the great work!
For Susvara, I'm cosidering the Oor or the AHB2. I think those are the main 2 SS. Nice to know the Oor is warmer in relation. Personally, I liked the Sus on Tubes for the same reason. I have the ampsandsound Nautilus for that reason, looking for the proper complement to the Nautilus.
How would you compare the oor+hypsos against the Soloist GT? I have to make a decision in the next week or so and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
*Thank you as always for no time wasting thorough review. How about comparing to Violectric V280 FE?* Begging to buy the HYPSOS. Why?? Working for that company in a way at 22:37 . Getting some kickback? Makes me wonder. *If I may ask: How will the Ferrum Oor work for and make difference with Sennheiser HD800S, ZMF Verite, Audeze LCD-X for instance?*
My pleasure. I can compare it only with the things that I have at my disposal. I never tried a Violectric amplifier, nor do I own said headphones, but I don't see why it wouldn't work well with them.
Sandu, is it possible to get Niimbus us5 pro for review? Im trying to decide between Niimbus and Benchmark hpa4 since both measure well, have great build quality and phenomenal wolume controls. Niimbus though look more impressive based on its power supply...
Yep, I did and I left a few notes about that in my written review. Long story short: I wouldn't use a dedicated preamp with it. While that Alps Blue Velvet pot isn't that impressive, those analog relays are correcting all its mistakes, especially at low-level listening with IEMs I'm getting a perfect channel balance - which should never happen with Blue Velvet it its default configuration.
@@megadoodoo5088 I got a V590 mk2 but found the DAC portion of it lacking so I exchanged it for a Niimbus US 5 pro with an external DAC and I couldn't be happier with the result.
i would really like some A/B testing . idk how it would be done but i need to know if measurements are everything or if they are only a part of the equation. i dont have the money to go through every single class A or AB to see if they have more pleasant harmonics than class D. or OP amp based systems.
I'm no longer chasing perfect measurements. If I would, then I would get a Topping A90 and call it a day. There are many things measurements cannot record (transients/dynamics, speed, tonality, soundstage - just to name a few) and that's why the final verdict should be given by our own measurement apparatuses - our ears. I tried recording A/B with a miniDSP EARS, but there is too much compression and the final result wasn't conclusive, so I abandoned that idea.
@@Soundnews looking forward to that! In your written review I’m a bit confused on the Volot vs Oor + hyp combo comparison. You wrote that Volot is not tuned to be warm like FA-10 or typical class A but more toward neutral for better resolution or technical performance. Yet the oor +hyp which is not pure class A but a/B is tuned more warm yet had better resolution and detail? Typically there is a trade off between warmth and resolution. For example v281 is from vilectric is very warm but the Niimbus us5 is much more neutral but better resolution. So having the oor be warmer but better resolution seems to make it a better technical performer across the board. You get the more enjoyable tuning without loss or details
I’ve listened to this amplifier with the power supply and I loved it. Great value for money.
