  • This video was produced in 1979 as a way to introduce Piedmont's "Carelines" Program. It was more than just a name. Carelines was designed to provide excellent service to customers as well as employees. It also ushered in the Piedmont slogan, "We Care." The video offers some great old footage and features the employees of Piedmont and a message from Founder and President, Tom Davis. (Courtesy of the Piedmont Aviation Historical Society)

What a shame. Piedmont was a great airline. Flew them many times and never had a bad flight.
They will always have a special place in my heart.

I remember the Piedmont Punch they served on their flights. Flew between Houston and NYC many times throughout the 1970's and 1980's.

Thanks for the upload. Great fond memories for Piedmont Airlines from Louisville as a kid.

Thanks for watching. Louisville was one of Piedmont's favorite cities. They were a destination from almost the very beginning. Piedmont's first flight was February 20, 1948. Service to Louisville was inaugurated on March 6, 1948.

@@airpiedmont Great '70's feel from your upload. I was not aware of the Denver destination. I grew up in Cincinnati, which was a Piedmont place, on and off, right? Max payroll--22,000 employees, whoa.

@@helios1912 Cincinnati was Piedmont's ORIGINAL final stop. It was the first flight on February 20, 1948. The route was Wilmington, NC to Cincinnati, OH with stops in Southern Pines, Charlotte, Asheville, Tri-Cities, TN and Lexington, KY. CVG also remained a Piedmont city its entire existence, right up until August 4, 1989. Denver was added in 1978.

@@airpiedmont Thanks for the quick reply. CVG was muscled into by Delta. I do recall Comair starting in 1977 with their pair of Piper Navajos. I salute you keeping the "We Care" Piedmont spirit alive.

@@helios1912 Sure thing! Piedmont opened a hub in Dayton and it was wildly successful. I know Delta was a major presence at CVG and when they cut back, it really hurt the airport. WCPO did a series on the airport about 10 years ago. It's here if you want to see it. Take care and thanks for your interest in Piedmont! th-cam.com/video/wd1Dm3-IF_w/w-d-xo.html

Makes me angry when I see these beautiful videos. To know this awesome airline once existed, only to be destroyed 10 years later!

@@airpiedmont They are still around as a regional airline. Their website is still the 1979 livery.

@@living4christ Yes. The name and logo were sold to USAir in the 1989 merger. It is used on what is now one of American's regional carriers. It is the former Henson Airlines but not the original Piedmont. It is however, a nice gesture to the original Piedmont as a sign of "heritage."

unfortunately deregulation in 1978 started the race to the bottom that killed 99% of the airline brands in existence in 1979. Leaving us with the dystopian flying experience we know today.
    National Airlines
    Northwest Orient Airlines
    Continental Airlines
    Western Airlines
    Eastern Airlines
    American TransAir
    World Airways
    Trans International Airlines
    Pam Am
    TWA
    Braniff
    Piedmont
    Allegheny
    PSA
    Ozark Airlines
    Air Florida
    Peoples' Express
    Midway Airlines
    America West Airlines
    Aloha Airlines
That is just off the top of my head.
All gone. Either out of business or forced to merge or be bought out.
Ironic since people said that deregulation would open up the industry and allow for more competition and more absurdly - better service! Sure, that is how they sold it. A trojan horse. But one by one they all fell. Instead we got less and less competition and worse and worse service.
