    The Challenger was painted in Claas-Colors because Caterpillar used to work together with Claas befor they sold Challenger to AGCO. Back then Challenger tractors were painted in Claas-Colors and sold under the name Claas in Europa and the Claas Lexion combines were painted in Challenger-Colors and sold under the name Challenger in Northamarica.

      You are correct, but not for the one in the video. The Claas/Cat partnership was before the release of that particular model. The one in the video was never released as it was a later model than any Claas Challenger tractor available

      @@jagman9806 Google: Cat Lexion
      Some years ago Claas and Cat/Challanger worked together. It didn't work out because Cat insisted on Claas having Cat motors in their European combines and that didn't set well with the European market, so they ended it. Claas is still using the Cat colors though and it's basically a matter of americans recognizing those colors rather than the Green/White/Red colors they use in the rest of the world.

    The IH 2+2 was a great tractor once you got used to the length of the hood. I think it was 17 feet from the cab to the front of the hood. It would actually out turn a conventional tractor. Driving it at speed, on the road, was a challenge, due to how sensative the steering was. Bringing one into the shop was unique, because the radiator fan would blow forward, blowing any loose papers off the work benches.

      @ Robert Heinkel They are an interesting tractor to put a clutch in to, I did one for a customer in a dealership I worked in years ago here in Canada. The old IH dealer in town still had the big splitting track that bolted to the front. Then I had to pull a drive shaft and yoke at the pivot somewhere, and fit a 3/4 drive socket and wind the front forward and back again when I put it together. It was the one and only time I fixed one, but that splitting method was cool.
      They had a wrecking yard to and we parted some out when guys broke the front axle castings in half bouncing them on the road or in the field when not ballasted right being front heavy . There was a few went to the U.K, the biggest problem was small roads there, so they cut the axle stubs down for width and ran singles. Also if you pulled out of a field gateway onto the narrow roads there with poor visibility. you probably got hit buy a car or big truck before you could see it from the cab, or got a loud horn blast from angry road users if you were really lucky !.

    The first tractor (0:07) is not an early prototype made by Cat, but rather a later prototype built by New Holland after the assembly contract with Cat was drawing to a close. (The contract stipulated that NH was not to offer a competitive product as long as the Cat version was being built at Winnepeg.) Next, (0:26) the Claas version of an early MT700 prototype was simply part of the joint venture between Cat and Claas that still existed at that time. However, shortly afterward, the sale of Challenger to AGCO put an end to the joint venture. At 3:17, the Deere 4955 was indeed made at Cat, and pre-dates the development of the Challenger 45 prototypes. Its purpose was to determine the feasibility of tracks on a rowcrop-sized tractor, and was never intended as a kit to sell (I've actually driven this tractor.)

      That's true, we have driven a Claas Challenger in the past, but not the model in the video, it was never released. The partnership dissolved before Cat released that model. If you look at the Claas ones online, they have a different cab and bodywork.

      Dirt & Diesel we have the challenger form of that tractor at my farm, which is the Challenger MT700c series, from 2009. I find it odd that the tractor was made by AGCO, and I wonder why that Claas tried making relations even after Challenger was bought by AGCO.

    The Case IH self-driving tractor isn't a never-seen thing, they promoted it very well. It is worth noting that as far as I know, their working on building another. also, it is worth noting that Case IH (Case International) is a sccessor of both the J. I. Case and the International Harvester Co. It is also worth noting that you could actually buy a close to 200 horse tractor from JD in the 70s, the 6030, all that was needed to make the 175 something horse tractor 200 horse was a bigger turbo.

    • @CoalChrome
      @CoalChrome 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, that 4955 with tracks still exists, it wasn't actually built like that, that was done later when the tractor was aquired by a university, and the tracks have since been removed and replaced with the stock wheels.

      @lukestrawwalker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll get excited about autonomous tractors when they can refill planter boxes, clean spray nozzles that plug up, refill the planter and sprayer and fertilizer tanks, clean plugged seed tubes, and can figure out when a bearing it out on the disk or a hydraulic line blows or an arbor bolt breaks on a disk gang and can stop BEFORE it scatters the parts over half the county...
      Til then, what's the use-- unless you're running brand new *everything* breakdowns happen (yes even to the new stuff) and SOMEBODY has to babysit the dang things fixing whatever breaks or is out of adjustment or needs cleaning or refilling...
      I wouldn't want to farm if I was just a glorified babysitter running around in a pickup between 2-3 fields trying to keep autonomous tractors going, just waiting for the tractor to call you with whatever needs fixing or adjusting or refilling next...
      If you gotta run around doing all that, might as well just put a cab on the darn thing and get up there and run it... that's most of the fun anyway.
      Later! OL J R :)
