One of THE best college football games of the 1990's. Absolute classic. Always underrated because it wasn't Miami or Notre Dame or Florida State. But Georgia Tech rightfully earned that national championship.
A classic game! Maybe the best in ACC history considering the excitement and what was at stake. Had UVA won, they may well have gone on to win the national title. A couple of people have posted they think Nikki Fisher was in on the Cavaliers’s final possession. At 2:18:01, they have the moment on the replay. He may have been. But close calls get missed on both sides every game. Had UVA coach George Welsh, who did a fine job during his time in Charlottesville, kept his foot on the gas 100% and had his team play to win the whole time, that Fisher play may not have even been an issue. Take nothing away from Georgia Tech and Bobby Ross. As Ross said in the postgame interview, his kids just fought and wouldn’t quit.
One of the greatest college games I’ve ever seen. Being a GT fan of course I was thrilled. Virginia was loaded and it took a lot of resolve and determination from Tech to take this including some luck
hell no he wasnt. if anything I'd be pissed at the two subsequent penalties called on UVa. OL did false start. Back then I dont think there was the rule about the DL jumping and drawing the OL offside which is what happened. But the 6 men on the line call after that (which took back the TD pass) was questionable at best. I count 7 guys on the line. Not sure what the rules were back then, or which end the refs thought was lined up in the backfield.
Funny how Nantz continued to brag this game up during the telecast. It turned out to be an entertaining game, but hardly the marquee matchup going into the day, with GA Tech ranked 16. #13 Iowa was at #5 Illinois and #9 Colorado was at #3 Nebraska also.
The eventual national champion (eff five down Colorado) against the #1 team in the nation in an instant classic. It absolutely was THE game of the day in terms of living up to the billing.

Wish replay was in effect.... Fisher scored, and it changed everything in that game....
