Been watching all kinds of videos on upgrading the steering waiting for mine to come in the mail I noticed since the years have gone by they fixed all the steering issues that I've noticed 🤙
Just bought a Everest Gen7 Pro and there was no steering mod needed because they now come stock with the high steering arm and the front steering bar is now curved around the pumpkin. My Gen7 does 3' diameter circles at full power stock out of the box! Looks like Redcat is listening to all the comments they are getting. Your videos are one of the reasons I decided to buy my Gen7, keep up the good work!
Jeff Gould What? Man that pisses me off! I just ordered one off amazon last week and have been working on it because this issue. Had to dremel off the nub on steering knuckle and bend the linkage to get more clearance on the pumpkin. I must have got the old version. My box was beat to hell when I received it, they didn’t even take the time to package it separately in another box. Really bad experience from the amazon seller.
That is really an elegant solution!!!! Steering HAS been the most trying issue. I'm a Retired Auto Technician, toe-out would bug me - but it's easy enough to just cut a little off of the end links, to shorten that Rod some. The BIG news coming has GOT to be Redcat is soon to release *Portal Axles* for the Gen 7!!! Much like the TRX-4, but of course, NOT a King's Ransom to buy, and locked Diffs only. Still, that will be AWESOME!! 👏👏👍👍 Redcat wants to be a serious player.
I was probably one of the first 10 to sign up for the portal axles! Since this mod, I switched to E10 knuckles and then to the high steer kit Redcat came out with. The high steer kit really is the best way to go, then just get the aluminum knuckles and you have a pretty strong steering setup as well.
It's too bad that Nobody makes aluminum E10 Knuckles.... HOW many have been sold??? I missed the "lottery" to be on the list for the introductory Deal. I have to wait for the sticker shock when the regular production ones come out.
I have aluminum E10 knuckles. If you see my newer video(s) they are the red ones. But now they make aluminum Gen7 knuckles or the high steer kit (which is almost the same price and you get better steering, you may want to dial back your dual steering rate though.)
Really?? I've seen a couple of Videos on the High Steer Knuckles. Although very impressive, for some reason, it looked like your trick in this video, makes even more Steering Angle. Even more than a SCX10 II !! I do appreciate the benefits of the High Steering, and the added Pumpkin clearance is definitely a plus. I'll look into it more....
It's probably about the same, the high steer kit may give a little more, but I've not done both side by side. I know both provided enough steering to make the tires rub the springs on the shocks.
Very good video i was looking at the Gen 7 for purchase and researching and did noticed that steering was an issue and i was already racking my brain to figure out a better way to mod the Gen 7 but this video is great, thanks you just solved one of my concerns. The Redcat gives more bang for the buck in my opinion.
I've since upgraded to Everest10 Knuckles, but Redcat has finally made some for the Gen7 and there are some high steer ones coming in January (along with some other aluminum "hop up" parts. I would wait for those, unless you are just really chomping at the bit. In the mean time, you could shave the nub on the stock plastic knuckles, it helps. Here's a link to the hop up parts page for the Gen7's: goo.gl/Ys4Eoy
On the bottom of my remotes they both say they comply with part 15 of the FCC Rules. There is a TX####### number on the remotes as well but that is unique to each controller. I hope that is what you were looking for.
A. Marcum be sure to check out my other videos, I've changed a few things since this video. It also looks like Redcat is coming out with a high steer kit in late January.
If you want to get a bit more turn AND return your tow in to a more parallel position, give that connecting rod between the front wheels a slight outward bow. You will bring the wheels back into alignment and get more clearance on your pumpkin.
JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone ..... Cool. Just a thought that occurred to me as I was watching your vid. I may actually try it on my daughter's Gen7. Aling with some of tour tricks here. Peace.
It was just one of many suggestions, it's what I had access to and didn't want to alter the axles. Now, I'd just tell someone to spend the few dollars and get the high steer kit, which I think newer models already have any way
Great video! Have to agree, I've seen vids of guys grinding meat off the pumpkin as well, imho I see a lot of snapped diffs, dirt, water, etc issues with doing it. I much your solution & produces, as y'all say "...a much more elegant solution". Your other tips are wicked also, that's why I liked, subbed y'all & shared this vid in my mods, tips & tricks playlist. Well done informative, insightful video, Thanks for sharing it with us & all the best to y'all & family in the New Year!!
Thanks, for now I was able to spread the mounts open on the E10 knuckles and c hubs and they are no longer rubbing/grinding. I am waiting for the Redcat high steer kit coming in January: www.redcatracing.com/180090S
Oh, this video is where I had the Rockslide RS10 knuckles... I found out the driver's side was rubbing the tire, so I replaced them with Everest 10 c hubs and knuckles, but I will be replacing them with Gen7 ones when the high steer kit comes out.
I paid $240 from tower hobbies. Fixed some of my steering issues but my biggest complaint is ground clearance. It hangs on things on my backyard track that I never knew where there. I've got a cheap RGT truck that out performs this one. Also the pins in u-joints are wallowing out. It has become a shelf squatter. Not fun to drive anymore. When a $130 truck can outperform this one, well you can see my frustrations.
I bought a new factory curved steering bar complete with ends and servo bar but after I got it installed both front wheels now point outward \ / like the bar is too long? Do you need to replace other part as well?
IDK. The E10 fit on the Gen7, so I'd think they would work the other way around. As SCX10 knuckles, I know with modifications they would fit on the Gen7, so I'd think they would fit on the E10. I hear the Gen7 high steer kit will fit on the E10.
I have a newer update video, should be the pinned one when you go to my page with my newest mods and parts. I would highly suggest if you're going to spend the money, just get the high steer kit for the Gen7. th-cam.com/video/xepYcGlHxYg/w-d-xo.html
I think they do or maybe even more. I have to limit the steering on the controller so I don't eat into the shocks with my tires. That being said, the Hyrax tires are probably wider, but my daughter's truck had to be dialed back as well. Here is a link to the Redcat E10 knuckles, they seem to be out of stock at Redcat, but maybe you can find a local or online dealer with them: www.redcatracing.com/180002. As for the steering links, I'd see what you need, I used RS10 links, because that's what I had, but the tires were a bit toed out, so you might get away with the stock arm (or the one with the high steer kit) with a couple shims.
I don't know. Not sure if there is a way. The best I understand, you bind the remote to the receiver, so in theory there isn't much of a need to know the frequency.
JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone FCC IDs are usually shown on a label found on a certified radio frequency device and indicates that the device has received a FCC grant of certification..
Sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking for. On the bottom of my remotes they both say they comply with part 15 of the FCC Rules. There is a TX####### number on the remotes as well but that is unique to each controller. I hope that is what you were looking for.
Ahhh, that makes more sense now! Ha ha ha! I could take a picture of that label, but I don't know anyway to send it to you. Are you part of this group on FB: facebook.com/groups/1337094246382448/ (you should ask to join, if you aren't, some pretty smart guys on there with plenty of experience and help to offer.)
It was given to me w/o a body, so I'm not real sure. It was an older one. I don't think those parts are much different. I'll add links to the steering nuckles and long steering link bar in the description on the video.
I did some sleuthing based on the color of the frame and found out it's the Rockslide RS10. The links are part# RCT-T003 and the knuckles are RCT P-006. Thanks for figuring this out. Best approach to steering mod I've seen on the Gen7 yet!
The RS10 link is quite a bit longer. Currently I have one of them bent and am using Everest 10 knuckles. I would highly recomend waiting on the high steer kit coming from Redcat January 23, 2018: www.redcatracing.com/180090S
Thanks, still working on my setup. I'm not doing anything fancy, just a cell phone on a tripod. I hope this video shows that with just a little effort and maybe a few dollars, you can take a pretty good truck and start making it into a great truck. Don't get me wrong, what you pay for this truck, it is a good truck. If you start crawling with buddies that have $400+ Axial trucks, you will feel a little out classed. I find half the fun of this hobby is finding the parts and pieces to keep improving the truck!
13B-787 it's just some silver paint marker, I didn't scuff the wheels before painting, so it's already coming off. I may eventually repaint now that I know I like it. Paint marker was easier than a paint brush.
I got all the things you recommended to get and started to take everything apart to change it all out. I notice the small bearing knuckle doesn’t fit into the new knuckles. Do you know the size of the bearing you used?
I do not know, I was able to use the parts off the RS10. That being said, I'm switching my knuckles out for E10's, may eventually try some SCX10 knuckles. The driver's side knuckle rubs a little more than I wanted and I wanted metal ones, the RS10 did not have any metal options.
Norberto Miguel Ornelas de Freitas if you Google Redcat Gen7, you will find tons of places where you can get it. Many places will have the Pro version for $280, usually with shipping included in the US. As for the sport version, you should be able to find it for $200.

Its true! I just got one and it steers all the way to the shocks, and the main steering arm has a slight curve.
That is really an elegant solution!!!! Steering HAS been the most trying issue. I'm a Retired Auto Technician, toe-out would bug me - but it's easy enough to just cut a little off of the end links, to shorten that Rod some.

I have a gen 7 that has steering as good as your almost hitting the shocks also my wheels aren't towed out at all just did some simple mods
Very cool idea Thx! Longer steering horn👌👌
Dev&D RC thanks! I've since ditched this and am running the high steer kit. The Rockslide knuckles, most the driver's side, rubbed the tire, a lot.
JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone cool, I am adding thicker wheel hubs
just picked up the latest version and they've corrected the steering issue with stock high steer knuckles
Thanx for this info. New to the trucks and will take any tips I can get.
A. Marcum be sure to check out my other videos, I've changed a few things since this video. It also looks like Redcat is coming out with a high steer kit in late January.
Great info on the steering. That's the only thing that's kept me from getting a gen 7
CRAWL HARD RC Beef Tubes is supposed to be coming out with an axle, if it's pumpkin is smaller, that will resolve a lot of the steering problem.
If you want to get a bit more turn AND return your tow in to a more parallel position, give that connecting rod between the front wheels a slight outward bow. You will bring the wheels back into alignment and get more clearance on your pumpkin.
Joe Quimby I've thought about doing that, but it is just barely toed out and I may still be making more front end mods.
JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone ..... Cool. Just a thought that occurred to me as I was watching your vid. I may actually try it on my daughter's Gen7. Aling with some of tour tricks here. Peace.
I just ground the nubs off and changed the ends on steering linkage to clear pumpkin around 5 dollars
It was just one of many suggestions, it's what I had access to and didn't want to alter the axles. Now, I'd just tell someone to spend the few dollars and get the high steer kit, which I think newer models already have any way

I was looking at a black Rgt jeep and thinking about getting one which one do you have?
Mass.Shadows I have the D-90 Rover. They had a choice of silver or black. I got the silver one. The FJ40 Toyota looks promising.
Awesome! The D-90 looks pretty cool.
I want to turn mine into 4 wheel steering what's your take on that
I bought a new factory curved steering bar complete with ends and servo bar but after I got it installed both front wheels now point outward \ / like the bar is too long? Do you need to replace other part as well?
Did you get the high steer knuckles? If not, that link is too long. If so, there's an adjustment screw on one end of the bar.
@@jackofalltradesmasterofnon7860 No dont have the high steer knuckles
That's the problem. That is supposed to go with high steer knuckles. The kit probably wouldn't have been much more expensive than just the link.
Bye Bye Servo time to upgrade
Thanks for your input, but actually that servo lasted quite a while after this video (if not still in it now.)
Does the axial 10 steering knuckles fit Everest 10
IDK. The E10 fit on the Gen7, so I'd think they would work the other way around. As SCX10 knuckles, I know with modifications they would fit on the Gen7, so I'd think they would fit on the E10. I hear the Gen7 high steer kit will fit on the E10.

I already installed the aluminum parts gen7 update. But I think it does not turn as much as your first video.

Thank you for a good idea
Your gonna snap the shafts now tho that's why the don't allow it to steer that far
I'm slowly replacing my front end parts with metal ones to help avoid breakage.
Awesome! Which Rockslide model are these parts from? Are they the same as long as it's a rockslide?

RC hobby pro is the best plus you can if you want make little payment's. Also you can get a great lipo from there also. If not there then RC PLANET.
Did you get permission to share purchase info from your contact? For the less than retail price.
He's a small dealer, he isn't looking for a ton of customers at this point, sorry I could not divulge his contact information at this time.
JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone Understandable.
Just don't pay over $280 (try to get shipping included at that price) and you should be OK.
JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone Definitely! Wish there were a way to get a hold of your guy without publicly sharing his info.
cfreeman1881 tower hobbies offers this for $240 plus $20 two day shipping. Had mine since late November.
