Just completed watching this without leaving a comment. At the risk of this being deleted, I want to go on record to give my absolute appreciation for the 2 leads in the story. Mr. Chung in particular. He maintained hie elegant classic gentlemanly approach to the ups and downs of his life. His Ladyship was none the less the same. Thx writers for a mesmerizing story. I am also watching her in Faceoff. What a contrast in her roll in that in that drama. Quite a versatile actress!!
The Ladyship Shiyi and Marquis Lingyi are really great to-be together as they have the same work ethics,love for family and trust with each other. The scene between the Head of the Ministry of Rites evil intentions got exposed and got flogged 20 times. The young Ou Lin is so admirable and his secret affection to Shiyi is so visible. The series is becoming beautiful and intense. I worry about Concubine Wen as she is spiteful and a schemer.
It was a shame that Wen used her own child Yu in her Scheme. Wished she was punished more severely than she was. She was extremely lucky she only had to work at the farm for a few days, especially since she nearly destroyed the whole family. Loved it when they anticipated Mr Ou would pull a trick on them and they were prepared for it. Loved the scene where Mr Ou thought he got them into trouble, then realizes his plan backfired.
That random scene at the end with Dong Qing and General Fu seem so rushed and out of nowhere. I wonder if there were scenes in between that were chopped. Also other random observation: Guy who plans Ou Lixing is so handsome, can't help but admire even if he's playing the bad guy. Such a man.
... still it is there a justification that says because xx cromozomes from woman and xy from man, for evolution regards, a man could take care about 3 women.
I don't get this greedy concubine. Her husband asked first his son if he wants to go there and he was pleased to go there. The father never forced him into going there and respected his opinion. Why can't the mother do the same? I feel bad for Yu. He was such a sweetheart and wanted to play with his brother one last time before going and now he is being affected. Zhu&Yu brotherhood was so cute and now it is ruined
What she did was wrong, especially because the whole family, including her son could be punished for offending the Emperor. But she is a lonely woman and loves her son. She is not with Shiyi and husband to hear their conversations and because she has too much time and nothing to do, her imagination flies to the paranoid degree. There is also something else, because it seems that she is doing this against her will. It is weird.

I image all of his children were likely conceived around the time they first entered the harem because consummation would have been a standard wedding custom in those days. On top of that, men weren't actually allowed to have a favorite concubine, so the Marquis would have been required to visit the women regularly.

OMG, I was thinking about how the second male lead looks familiar now I remember he is the male lead in "my little happiness" it's really a good drama.
At first watch, all I can think is that Concubine Wen is so stupid. But after more consideration about her character history, she's really trying her best... As the daughter of a merchant family, her parents wouldn't have let her education include matters about politics and society etc - so in that earlier episode when Lingyi got upset at her meal being so lavish when other people in the land were starving, she couldn't understand why. What she does understand is this good old scheming between wife and concubines - she protected Yu all these years. But unfortunately, this narrow-minded thinking prevents her from understanding Lingyi and Shiyi's wonderful long-term plan for Yu. I haven't read the novel or seen the finale yet but I hope Yu grows up to be successful in his own name.
I also do feel bad for her. I mean she is a concubine like Shiyi's mom and she too is not favored. These women's lives are just too hard. She really has nothing. I feel sorry for her. And she was so stupid about it too. She just did that to feed her own anger, not to cause harm. I feel bad for her.

omg I totally agree! I really don't feel angry at any of Lingyi's concubines. The only reason why all of them are becoming evil is because of Lingyi's neglect as a husband.
