Simon Jones in this mood was nigh on impossible to face. His five-wicket haul in the 4th Test helped bundle Australia out for 218, and set the game up beautifully for England. They would go on to secure victory at Trent Bridge and take a big step towards winning the Ashes.

I think Simon Jones was a bowler of class. I think he would have gone onto great things had injury not so persistently blighted his career. Injury-free and on his day, he was capable of bowling great sides out, as he proved in the 2005 Ashes.

Australia v WI 92/93 is my fave. W.I were 1-0 down going into the 4th test at Adelaide and won it by 1 run to level up and then went to Perth and did a smash and grab thanks to Curtly Ambrose. This 2005 Ashes was brilliant. If Glenn Mcgrath had not been injured, it would have been tougher, but credit to England.

I used to play swing in a village team (and played for twenty years) I never rated myself and got lucky a few times. With a few mates we lucked out and got 3 days at Trent Bridge for this one. We watched that morning spell in awe, this is the best spell of English swing of all time. Enjoy.

Simon Jones learnt the reverse swing trade from Waqar Younis stint at Glamorgan in 1997 - Jones himself admitted this saying Waqar played a huge part in the art of reverse swing and generally in helping him how to bowl - both Waqar and Mathew Maynard said at the time that Simon Jones is the quickest bowler in the county circuit - real shame injury cut his career otherwise he would of achieved loads in the cricket game

Jones was such a weapon in that series. I remember how well he was used too - First they'd give Harmison and Hoggard the new ball. Then they'd unleash Flintoff (with Giles tying down the other end). Then around the 30 over mark, just when our batsmen were thinking "ok I got through the tough stuff", Michael Vaughan would give the completely fresh bowler Jones the old ball with reverse swing hooping round everywhere at 140kph+. No wonder our batsmen struggled to score hundreds. Nightmare stuff.

I was there too, the reaction was massive, it was more like a football match. I've seen many England games and after the 81-5 in the last spell of the day before (I think), England powered on through in the first session. Very, very special for me, total commitment from our guys.

Duncan Fletcher made a great comment when he was asked about that after the days play - he said "if you hit the ball straight to cover and take a single, what do you expect?" Ponting was always going on about Spirit of the game, as the Aussies do now, but they have no problem telling #11 batsmen that their arms are gonna get broken, or take some "yellow tape" on the field to doctor the ball. Gary Pratt, made Ponting look like one that day...

What a bowler, what an attack! See off Harmison’s bounce and Hoggard’s swing, and Flintoff comes storming in hitting the pitch hard and Jones bowls 90mph reverse swingers at your toes. All the while Giles kept it tight with his orthodox left arm, giving the batsman no escape. England were able to target Gillespie, Kasprowicz, Tait. Australia had no let off. Young Jimmy Anderson couldn’t get in the team!

Sad that the first innings at Trent Bridge was his last act as a bowler in an England shirt. Mind you, if you'd had his career, you'd take being part of this series any day, wouldn't you? Seems like a few years ago, but 15 years have passed by.

SAND PAPER became the hottest selling and the most wanted commodity in Australia after this Ashes.......i think i better set up a stall of SAND PAPERS in London for the ashes.Easy and quick money making idea.I hope no one else is going to steal my idea
