    1) TUU-varying tempo 2) ROM- mainly full, but sometimes partials are helpful 3) Intensity- varying rep range, but sometimes too high reps are unhelpful.

    Total Gym for me all the way. It’s the one piece of equipment that I come back to. I’ve even sold a couple of them in the past regretting it, then buying the total gym fit.

    I have the X3 system, and the videos that came with the product are really lacking. I'm interested in seeing a video of you doing and explaining those basic exercises, nothing fancy. Crawl, walk, run. Bands and a bar are new to me - easier to do wrong. Machines are easy. Bands and a bar? Tips and tricks for the basic exercises, please.... Your channel does a great job of utilizing bands of all brands and applications; I trust you.

      I know it is a competitor to X3 but Harambe System's TH-cam page has good tutorials for many of the "standard" exercises with a band/bar/board system. Once you get comfortable there I would suggest branching out to other channels and simply doing a TH-cam search to discover some of the additional exercises you can do with resistance bands. Some ideas off the top of my head are Clench fitness has some really good tutorials on multiple ways to use bands and Buff Dudes has a 12 week resistance band program (they call them mobility bands) that I have been using (I'm on week 9) that has been the best I've used. They have an accompanying video series on their workout channel (that is unfortunately incomplete). Even then I've subbed in some alternate workouts and also done some searches to see if there is a way to do the work out differently due to my set up versus theirs. That should be a good starting point but I would highly recommend at a minimum getting some metal door hooks (one at the top and one at the bottom Kipika Door Anchor $16 on Amazon), some handles (Yes4All 360 rotating $22 on Amazon), and some Serious Steel 12 inch mini loop bands. I also think a pull up bar is great and a recent addition I've made ($35 Sportneer on Amazon) as I get better results versus alternate exercises with bands.

    Happy New year🎉. 11 years ago when I got back into fitness, I started with Bodylastics resistance bands and subscribed to their online classes and database. Was 54 at the time and wanted to be nice to my joints, etc. this really did the trick as I lost the weight I wanted, 40lbs down to 145 where I am still at today. Soon, I got into more equipment as bands do have their short comings as does everything else. Big picture is mixing it up, even if just the order you usually do things, really helps your body and your motivation to keep going. I always go to bands when my body feels sore or if I feel tired and focus on a good stretch with resistance. For me it is about staying active and feeling good. Your site has the perfect name and you stay true to it. I have appreciated following you this year and thank you for such great content. Peace ❤

      I think you're right Lou. I've had plenty of guys write in telling me this is basically all they've been doing and they've seen nothing but positive changes, or at the very least comparable to what they were doing for the body parts they want to build.

    Happy New Year Mike. Your presentation style always comes across as honest advice while keeping an open mind to other options. As a senior (69) the Total Gym Fit has severed me well (I was influenced by you early videos). It gives me a safe (never been hurt) platform that meets all my strength training goals.     I’m now actually at the point where I’m “varying” my routine. I’ve been pretty much all TG since I started watching your channel a couple/few years ago, and it has been great for me. I’m healthier and in better shape than I have been in years. Then I adopted the X3 as my “travel gym” for work (I did use a link from one of your videos) and that tandem worked well for me. Now I’m going to be using an adjustable bench (Ironmaster Superbench 2, also used one of your links) along with a set of adjustable dumbbells that I’ve had in storage for years to try and see if I can move past this plateau I’m on. I have to put my TG in storage, since the bench folds up in the only closet space that fits one of these things (love how the IMSB stands up on end in the flat position); but if this works for me for a few months maybe I swap them back and forth? Quarterly? Not sure if I’ll get the IM dumbbells, though. They look great; but I just don’t have the space for that cart…
    Anyway, point is I appreciate the info and guidance. I think your exercise philosophies are very applicable to my lifestyle, regardless which piece of equipment you are showcasing in a given video. I appreciate those equipment reviews, too. They’ve helped me out a lot these last few years!! Thanks and Happy New Year! Sorry for any typos - fat thumbs over here. I hit the backspace key about 100 times already…

    Hi Mike, training is so subjective that there are so many combinations that you could use depending on what you're looking for and what you have available. Isometric training gets little praise yet can strengthen you with static movements.

Fitness/exercise science has been my career my whole life, but as far as training I'm lucky if I can squeeze in 4 sessions a week for less than an hour. But as they say, you'll never work a day in your life if you enjoy your work.

    Happy New Year. I agree with you about changing things up. Always good to do that. My focus still is weight loss and having lean muscle mass. But for me mainly that is diet

    Happy New Year Mike. Wishing you and the family a happy and healthy one. A thought for some new videos. Can you do a few on low cost portable gym gear. specifically would be the NOSSK CYCLONE Pulley Bodyweight Trainer. I call it the poor man's Total Gym. Maybe include the new X5 Bullworker, WorldFits ISO Trainer. Seeing if you can get an effective total body workout without spending much money and if you have limited space to work out , like in an apartment.

I just got done using my lever gym (thank you) In the last 14 months I have lost over 100lbs and less than 15% bmi. Before COVID I had a gym membership. Sold a car sitting in my garage, and with your help turned it into a great workout space. I can't say I have your great art work :) But I have a Roberto Clemente portrait.

    Hi Mike, and a very Happy New Year to you and yours. A very well-thought and valuable post. These principles are time-tested and proved. I remember your interview with Scott Abel. His workout programs have always advised "surfing-the -curve". Varying the exercises, rep ranges, and tempo, within a structured program design. I don't know if you have actually seen any of his programs, so, if possible, I could pass you a copy of one of his later works, "The Hardgainer Solution". I truly believe you would appreciate it and would love to hear your thoughts.

    Yeah, I don't get sore at all with using bands anymore. But now I find myself doing high volume training with them. But I go back to weights and I can't go nearly as high volume lol

      ​@@idx1941 I have to disagree, as I did that very thing and while it works, I've recently had the chance to play with my cousins X3 and Harambe systems and can't stop feeling painful regret for not just shelling out the cash and getting one of these.
      Yes my budget bar and band set work, but they have so many weak points compared to X3 or Harambe and are harder to use.
      It was awesome to get to see if I would like the resistance and it's not bad but it didn't take me away from weights or my total gym. I tried a variety of cheaper bands on my total gym and with my footplate and bar and they just were too springy and had rough force curves.
      That's not always the case for everyone, but I regret going budget and wish I would have stuck with the tried and true systems so far and then gone backwards.
      So just food for thought if you're not sure or don't like cheaper products that perform less efficiently.
      If your budget doesn't allow for it then you have to accept limitations and be willing to experiment. Nothing wrong with that but you gotta be honest with yourself.

      I've definitely covered the budget options, a basic pipe, and even the collar hooks where you can convert any barbell into band bar. It really comes down to personal preference and what you're looking for.

      I really think if the diet is on point and form of resistance training will make the muscles pop. But I think this depends on how much and where you're looking to build muscle as well.

    I’m looking into the ECHELON STRENGTH HOME gym but I can’t find hardly any info about it. I don’t even know if you need a membership to use it and the company is not responding. There are no reviews on TH-cam, maybe you could be the first.

    Bands (elastic or rubber) are great for a very few unusual movements machines can't duplicate... That is until you get the snap , pop, crackle experience of a band tearing when you least expect in the worst possible position you can accept... Just don't think they are the do all, be all, end all to the infinite other options to overdose on the hypertrophy drug... Experience is the best teacher, especially when you can learn it from someone else before it bites you in the shorts...

      @@charlesfountain3946 don’t give up on the bands. My first and still used today bands are from bodylastics. They have a rope inside. When they eventually break, they just go limp. No snap back. It’s a crazy feeling but completely safe. My loop bands are inspected before each use. If I see cracking or small tear I just dump it. I only get the most inexpensive ones I can find if that variety.
