- I'm working on a KW Vespa MK1 Transmitter manufactured circa 1965. In this introductory video, I have a look at the power supply and the transmitter chassis. Using a light bulb as a dummy load, I fire up the transmitter and...

Hi Ray, when you talk about the braid around the earth part of the capacitor rotor, with the throw away statement of "your not bothered about all that, are you?" For some of us youngsters (born in 67), these snippets of technical history are actually quite fascinating. It provides an insight in radio design and how perhaps manufacturers overcame issues and then cut corners later. Although the radios I maintain were built in the very late 70-early 80's., the information you provide in these videos is inspiring and thought provoking. I look forward to the next one.
That is a very good point. My apologies. I must try to remember that there are many people, like yourself, that are interested in all aspects of radio, including the early days. All the best, Ray.
Wow
Nearly 60 years old, just a tad younger than me.
Such a lovely looking tx and I bet it sounds amazing 📻
Lovely old gear! I'm looking forward to restoring it.
Hi Ray
The Belling-Lee RF connector speaks volumes about its age!
Indeed! They were awful! Cheers, Ray.
I have a Mk1 and Mk2 Vespa, I also have the Heathkit SB-10 SSB adapter that you mentioned. I have a lot of retirement projects if and when I get there. GW0PUH
Yes, that was it. The Heathkit SB-10 SSB adapter. And you have the Mk1 and Mk2 Vespa transmitters! Great projects. Cheers, Ray.
Very interesting video Ray. Many thanks.
Thanks!
Thanks Ray ,very FB as usual OM,keep up these beautiful clips .
@@st2nh thanks! 👍
Hi Ray, I would put new capacitors in the old cases, it's not a bad job to do. I have had an AR88 for 50 years, that's got original capacitors and it works fine. It will probably leak oil all over my bench now I have said that. 73 de Mike G4VQH
Yes, I have done that in the psat and it looks great. Love the AR88! Cheers, Ray.
@ I made a mistake I have had the AR88 since I was 14 I am 68 now. I won £50 on the premium bond my grandmother bought me in 1972 a huge amount of money to me in those days, I spent it on my AR88
@@michaelclutton8446 Good choice!
I have used it regularly ever since the early 1970s the best £50 I ever spent
I have a Vespa MK1 amongst other KW transceivers but no PSU for it.
But I do have a KW2000A PSU I was going to modify.
However, I'm lazy :-)
The KW2000A PSU would be ideal. A project for the winter?
@g4nsj I'll report back Ray.
I have a 2000B with PSU.
I have spare PSUs for the A, E and original 2000, so I have a choice.
I need to convert one for my Atlanta too.
@@braxtonhickswaxinglyrical3068 Yes, do let me know how you get on.
Love it Ray. I remember these a lot of my friends had one or they made there own.
Back then that's what we did.
Not like today when it's all black boxes and full of three legged fuses.
Anyway looking forward to the next video.

Paul G0MIH, HS0ZLQ,
Hi Paul, it was great fun building your own stuff. Sadly, it's all changed. Great to hear from you. Cheers, Ray.
Hello Ray fantastic i look forward to seeing the res T of the series on its resurrection. If you would like to work on a KW201 receiver I have one that needs some attention.
I'm not sure I can take on any more work! More videos coming soon. Cheers, Ray.
Clean the points and Carb, put some fresh fuel in it and it'll go again.
Great idea, thanks!
For the variable capacitor, wouldn't 2 stroke oil be better, as it's a Vespa? 🤔🤣
Was it owned by a Mod? 🤔🤣 Have you seen the Lambretta version? 🤔🤣
@@MM0IMC I used to have a Vespa scooter! 🤣
