Rafi Saheb aur LP ke career ka ye dilchasp pehloo hai k Laxmikant Pyarelal ke career ka 1st geet Rafi Saheb ne gaya tha aur Rafi Saheb ke career ka aakhri geet Laxmikant Pyarekal ke music mein tha.
I was 8/9 years old when Dosti was released. I had seen the movie 5/6 times and from this film I became ardent fan of L.P. and Rafi sahab. It is true that R.D. Burman had played mouth organ in the film. I also started playing mouth organ after this film only.
It's TRUE that great Rahul Dev Burman played Harmonica for the songs only in Dosti. Background music and Title Music was played by Shri Milan Gupta who assisted O P Nayyar and played the instrument for him too in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (CID). Later he settled back to Kolkata and he was replaced by Bhanu Gupta, another musical gem from Bengal. Initially Mr. Gupta joined Salil Chowdhury and later switched to RDB team, where he played both guitar and harmonica.
Arti’s music director was Roshan Lal Nagnath - popularly known as Roshan. Dosti was initially offered to Roshan. But he declined on the fact that the leading characters were not well known. No scope for good music on the character(s) - one lame, one blind. No villains, no box office masala. In fact no one was willing to give music for this movie. LP grabbed it when it was offered to them at a throwaway price.
When Dosti was on the process, RD Burman was a struggling music director. He accepted LP, s proposal for playing mouth organ. LP had created magic with great Rafi then and it continued till his death.
When I was 10 /12 years old i heard songs of Sant Gyaneshwar and Dosti I fell in love of music of L and P. I am now 71 but my days is not over without enjoying LP song and when ever I got chance to watch Dosti I am enjoying the film. Total 40 times I have seen film Dosti. People at that time watched movie of heros but I was watching pictured of LP Before 50 years there was healthy compition among all music director. Just like R dD Burman played miuth organ in Dosti, Pyarelal also played violin in film Hakikat, mohd rafi song main ye soch kar unke dar se nikla tha under Music of Madan Mohan. Jab tak sunne wale rahenge LP apaka nam amar rahega. Na unke jaise dolak kisine bajai hai na bajayega.
Melodies dholak LP ke alawa sabhi MD ne melody mein use kiya.....LP ne dholak 70's ke baad har film mein qawalli ka hi tekha bajate hain.....aur dholak as an instrument ko badnam kiya....

I know every composer has his lyricist, like Madan Mohan and Raja Mehndi ali khan, S & J had Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipur, R D B had both Bakshi and Majrooh. My surprise is Laxmikant Pyarelal his 1 was half Anand Bakshi while Majrooh Sultanpur is the 1 who made them popular after dost. Y they didn’t value him at all can u explain to me pls. @Filmy Faraz
