A Star Wars Droids DVD was released around the same time as the Spider-Man 2 movie DVD. It didn't have the theme song and was at large just a bundle of episodes edited together as a couple of movies. The main one I can recall is the one that involved Runestones. Special crystals that could store vast amounts of information.

I would love an animated series based on the cartoon in the holiday special. It would be fun to see “Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie on the run while being chased by Darth Vader”, especially in that style, it’s super cool and 70’s psychedelic

The thing is 70's Animation is really only good and interesting when it's not IN TV cartoon shows that were regulated more then any other decade. The Holiday Special could get away with it due to it being part of a larger one off TV special but a regular series couldn't. And as ERod pointed out even in the 80's they didn't want to pay the money for actor likeness for the characters to be involved in major stories so yeah never would have really worked for a series.

Here in Canada, the home of Nelvana, Droids and Ewoks were also aired in reruns beginning in 1986, on the same channel that aired the Care Bears. Though reruns of both shows went until 1992, instead of 1991, like they had in the UK. Droids and Ewoks were my introduction to the Star Wars Universe, as I didn't see the movies until they came out in their original non-special edition versions on VHS in 1995. The sad thing is is that while both shows had a huge presence on VHS throughout most of the '90s, neither of them had a huge presence on DVD. Each show got one DVD release each, which contained random two blocks of four episodes each, edited together into feature length films, with each "film" put onto each side of a flipper disc. I have the Droids DVD in my collection, but I never got the Ewoks DVD.

Wait a minute, Battle for the Sunstar, a season 2 episode, was half an hour long, not 10 minutes. Plus, it was written by Paul Dini and featured the Galactic Empire!

A few things must be mentioned:
Nelvana Studios by the time they started The Care Bears is only after their unfortunate box office failure of their independently made *Rock N Rule" in 1983 which changed forever the studio founder's original vision of producing non-mainstream animation, i.e. they had the chance to work on an independently produced underground sci-fi fantasy called *Elfquest* which, failed to happen because the founder's unwise insistence on making changes to the comic book creator's content.
The animation staff that produced the animated segment of the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL are not the same animators for the 1980s STAR WARS TV SERIES, you can clearly see the difference when you compare with each other.

That's something I didn't expect too see as you hated The Phantom Menace in your Blockbuster Buster videos but nowadays there's lots of love for that movie and the entire Prequel Trilogy. Prequel Trilogy hate has moved to Sequel Trilogy hate.
I since being a little kid loved the Prequel Trilogy and saw no reason to hate on it other than just being different from the Original Trilogy.

Technically, Star Wars & Jaws were never the first blockbusters or franchises. The Monster Movies of the 1930s and the Cold War Sci-Fi Movies of the 1950s are basically when Blockbusters and Cinematic Franchises came to exist.
You could say Jaws & Star Wars are the pioneers of what a modern franchise and what a modern blockbuster is.

I honestly can't remember if I watched these as a little kid; we had some of the merchandise, so I guess so? I hope you include "Star Wars Visions" in this series; I honestly think it's some of the best modern SW there is.

one factor with the toys was "I already had these characters, I don't need more" but I think star wars in general was loosing steam. taken over by real ghostbusters and tthundercats and he-man

Admittedly I really only heard of these series years upon years after I had first heard about Star Wars. Like I think I may have even first seen the Ewoks cartoon in that AT4W episode about the Ewok comic and went "wait these guys got their own show?" But I did check a bit out and quite honestly they are interseting time pieces to show where Star Wars was and how it was everywhere but also show quite frankly it would have been a BAD idea to try a more legit show about well the thing people really care about with Star Wars. Yeah C3PO and R2-D2 are iconic characters (the only characters I believe who appear in EVERY main line Star Wars movie so that's something) and yeah Ewoks were popular with kids but like if you were to generally think "oh man what you could do with a Star Wars cartoon" it would you know involve a lot of epic battles with light sabers and space shoot outs and battles throughout various planets that yeah you aren't gonig to get here. Yeah some 80's shows could do that like Transformers or GI Joe but like it wouldn't have felt nearly as solid like you'd want for a Star Wars series which yeah we'd only get with Genndy in the 2000's. Still I appreciate pointing out the history of Droids and Ewoks and why they had short runs but Ewoks ran longer because it was cheaper. But yeah if this was the extent of star wars animation it'd be a novelty. Next time we'll see why animated star wars is important and still helping it's live action counter part even today .
