    The magical Christmas tradition for all the family.
    Over 100 dancers and musicians bring Nutcracker to life with exquisite dancing, beautiful sets and Tchaikovsky’s popular score played live.
    On a sparkling Christmas Eve in a frost-dusted Edwardian London, Clara receives an enchanted Nutcracker as a present. Together, they discover a magical world where she battles with the Mouse King and meets a handsome stranger. As the air grows colder, Clara and her valiant Nutcracker take a hot air balloon ride across London to the glistening Land of Snow where a puppet theatre comes to life with dancers from around the world.
    From the sound of the orchestra tuning up, to the final bows and cheers, a trip to English National Ballet’s Nutcracker is an unforgettable Christmas treat.

    I love this! It’s so creative and flowy and I wish more professional ballet was like this! (I have yet to find a version of the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy that I truly like. All the ones I’ve seen have to much walking and not enough spinning or flowing)

    The tempo feels a little slow in this version, but the Choreography is some of the best and most "Spanish" I've seen.

    Gorgeous costumes and dancing!!! The trumpet player didn’t crack any of the notes, either!!! Our local ballet company uses a live pit orchestra and either the clarinet or the trumpet players crack notes!!!

    A clear example of the "Españolada" which doesn't portray acurately Spanish Dancing as done in Spain. I wonder then why there is such a problem with pseudo Arabian and Chinese cliché in our day and age. Great dancing from the dancers.

    • @VetsrisAuguste
      @VetsrisAuguste 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      If there is a problem, it’s because people are making it one. None of the “national dances”, as depicted in classical ballet, are true to form anyway, they are all clichés. The waltz, the czardas, polonaise, mazurka, etc. None of these appear in their proper forms when used theatrically. In classical ballet for example, a national dance like the mazurka or the polonaise might have one or two stylistic aspects which are loosely based on the original, but most of the steps would be pure choreographic invention. Circumstance has it that, unlike in the case of traditional Spanish dances, our best known examples of these dances other national forms are those which have been adapted for theatrical purposes, leaving people (especially trained dancers) under the impression that these are accurate representations, when in fact that are all mere clichés.

      Потому что здесь представлены лишь элементы национального испанского танца, выраженные специфическими приемами классического балета.

      I think because in the case of the espagnolades or the slavic character dances, race is not an issue. Anything that has to do with race representation nowadays is a delicate and sensitive matter. I totally agree with you. In music, fortunately this debate is essentially non-existent. Any performer regardless of nationalities can safely play Saint-Saëns Spanish character pieces, Ravel and Debussy jazzy works, Bloch's Jewish music or even Mozart "Turkish" march...

    • @jaybonn5973
      @jaybonn5973 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@VetsrisAuguste the same can be said for the music. Carmen and Swan Lakes Spanish dance sound particularly not Spanish but give the impression of what people think Spain is, fast, passionate, and lively.

      El compositor y el coreógrafo tiene una idea del mundo" español" romántica. No tiene que ser exacta .
      Pero los grandes músicos suelen tener ideas románticas sobre España y las costumbres españolas.
      Y es de agradecer.
      Las obras más representadas en el mundo de la ópera y el Ballet suelen tener un trasfondo español .
      Aunque tú lo llames Españoladas......como Carmen?....
