2019 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 High Lifter Edition Test Review: Dominate the Mud!

  • While the Sportsman is an amazing all-terrain vehicle, if you want your ATV to excel in the deepest mud and last, it’s going to take a machine somewhat more specialized, like the 2019 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 High Lifter Edition. Polaris recently invited us down to the High Lifter Proving Grounds in Shreveport, La, to put our mud riding skills and the 2019 High Lifter Edition to the ultimate test.
    Conclusion
    There are thousands of products out there that will help turn your 4x4 ATV into a dedicated mudder. However, you’re going to work awfully hard and spend a lot to build a better machine than the Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 High Lifter Edition as it sits on the dealer’s showroom floor due to Polaris’ ground up approach to building the ultimate ATV for the mud. If the 1000’s $13,999 asking price is a bit much, you could go for the 850 at $10,099, although it gives up the bumpers, winch, and other smaller items found on the 1000, not to mention that it won’t be a 1000. While we could easily recommend that most riders looking for a multi-use ATV might do well to consider a Sportsman 850, you really can’t have too much power when it comes to turning big tires in the deep stuff. At this point, we can’t imagine asking for a higher level of performance, capability, and excitement in the mud than the 2019 Sportsman XP 1000 High Lifter Edition delivers!

    • @EC_ATV_Outdoors
      @EC_ATV_Outdoors 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The xmr is a longer wheelbase and has issue due to it. Its a pusher ride too, which sometimes gives issues as well. But the xmr is a good ride and will likely do fine for most. But if your thinking ostacruiser crazy, anything will cost you a ton extra, but a can am will be a bit more. Plus the msrp is much higher

    Looks like a nice unit. Hopefully it’s more reliable then the 570 sportsman’s. I had a world of trouble with mine to the point where I just traded it and took a loss. The dealer was unhelpful and I tried to call and ended up writing the company. No response. That’s now why I have a can am it sickened me. It is a sharp looking rig and looks super fun to ride.

    Buyers... better buy a FIRE EXTINGUISHER for your 1st mod. HD ATV gear pinion bearing plate 2nd mod. Next add a ground wire from the ground stud on the aluminum sub frame up front and run it to the steel frame, the aluminum frame corrodes between the steel and aluminum, then the voltage regulator gets hot n burns up or catches FIRE. next add a 30amp waterproof in line fuse on the red wire goin to the voltage regulator. Fuse blows to prevent FIRES.

      There is no doubt that when you stab the gas it gets up and goes. Watching that thing ripped through the mud reminds us of watching mud bog drag races on ESPN back when we were kids. Definitely has some power. Ed Teixeira from Teixeira Tech chassis components has raced Pro ATV in the best in the desert series. He bought a Scrambler 1000 project that we test it out last year. He had experience on it and both stock and modified condition so we thought he'd be a good choice to flog the High Lifter and give us some feedback. We're glad you think I think it turned out well.

    Polaris didn't offer a warranty past 6 months on the highlifter 1000 so that kept me from buying a Polaris, the dealer told me because of the non factory parts installed. So I bought a canam xmr renegade 1000 instead and got the factory extended warranty best money I ever spent.😊😊 Outlaws are good I have had the original outlaws and 2s they are the best all around mud tire but if you are really serious about mud put a set of assasinators on, I have 2 sets of assasinators,29.5 on my 14 renegade xxc 1000 and 32 assasinators on my 17 xmr renegade 1000 w Dalton clutch kit. Polaris needs to offer a extended warranty on the highlifter then maybe I will buy one. It will break I don't care what brand it is. Lol

    Honest truth. I have a 2018 850 two up..
    So far I had to replace the battery. It died on me at hunt camp. And trust me nothing was left on. They change the belt because it was jerking at low speeds the power steering was acting up and after the third time in the shop they changed the whole unit. Now the power steering light is back on again and they want to do their silly reflash again. I should have bought a Can-Am because the boys at hunt camp running the Outlander had no problems

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're sorry to hear that you've been having these issues with your Sportsman. While it's difficult to rack up thousands of miles on anyone machine with the volume of ATVs that we review, we ride them pretty hard. We've reviewed around 10 units from Polaris through the years only suffering one mechanical issue with some electrical connections that weren't fully made at the factory. The only other mechanical issues we suffered or due to rider error.
      We've gone through a full Year's testing on polaris's with no belt problems. However, we take the time to break the belts in before riding hard and when we are riding under 15 miles per hour for prolonged periods of time we typically shift the transmission into low range so we're not constantly slipping the belt. This is something you have to be mindful of with most CVT transmissions.

      @@off-roadnpew2183 Literally the only two places I've ever seen a 1000 Sportsman are on the side of trails in packs of 5-10 being ridden by old fat farts, and at the dealership being traded in. Polaris is old news. Lower power, lower speed, worse suspension, worse ergo. Has a softer seat. You win in the seat. That is all.

      We have a big 450 our project we started at the same time but we're about to put the graphics on and shoot. After that 200 X Project is next all we have left to acquire are levers brake lines and we need to reorder the correct rear sprocket

    Just saying that ain't even thick mud. All the holes he went through had a hard bottom. There was only one mud hole that was alright but nothing like what you would see on a true mud ride.

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again, we filmed this at the High Lifter Proving Grounds. I would think that that would be regarded as a good place to test the mud machine. That being said, the bottom of most of the holes that we went through felt pretty solid. Of course, it was slick but it wasn't easy to Simply bury the machine.

    Why couldn’t they change the body style of the high lifter omg...

    • @ATVonDemand

      What would you like to have seen them do differently?

    • @wesleywilliams1186
      @wesleywilliams1186 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The headlights and tail lights, the whole body style. Change it to what the 2018-2019 sportsman 850 and 1000 look like. A less bulky high lifter and an actual change in design because it’s been the same thing for the past few years and I figured when they changed the body style of the sportsman models then they would change the highlifter too but I guess not.
