For the PE, just get a book of example questions and work through the questions, all of them. Don't concentrate on one area. When you take the test you will find that there are short answer, easy, questions in each area (structures, fluids, environment, traffic etc.). It makes the test much easier.
Share some thoughts please. How was the journey of stud? Did you make cheetsheets? Flowcharts ? I am hoping for April 2020.Just watching some videos now and will probably get books/courses soon next week. How was your study schedule like ?
I am preparing for PE structural April. I took EET for both structural depth and breadth. I wonder if you took any other practice exam. After the simulated exam, I feel like I am not prepared enough.
Good day: Anyone watching this in 2023. I failed 1st time, having taken SOPE course. I failed 2nd time, having taken EET course. And now studying for 3rd time. Advice -- don't take SOPE course. Take EET course especially if you're water. Despite still failing with the EET experience I blame my performance on the AM to my own lack of a thorough AM review. I got too proud to review the AM! EET is a very good course -- intense, good customer service communication, good materials. SOPE is lackluster. Easy, watered down. Poorly organized. Hope this helps those in the same boat as me in 2023 and beyond!
I am currently waiting on results from Civil transpo and in the stage of doubt, so I've been looking into EET after doing group study with SOPE material for the first time. I've heard EET is great for the depth so I'm glad you reaffirmed that. I am curious how much the PE has changed since when you did because I felt like the NCEES was decently easier than the real one. Definitely asked you problems in the same odd way by the difficulty of the problems were amped up.
Hi Mat. Thanks for making civil engineering really an interesting major to get into. I'll be grateful if you could provide me with any sources that teach me the basics and the methods of analysis and design. Thanks again
Hey Mat! Thank you for the video! really cool to see videos like this one. I am studying for my PE exam (structural) this April 2020 and wanted to know if you have heard of the "School of PE" before. I am just curious if you knew about them before you took your PE exam or you just knew of the EET one. I know a lot of programs are great out there but just wanted to ask because I see people know about EET and before your video I had not heard about it and it looks cool. If you did know of the "School of PE" can you please share your thoughts on why you chose the EET? Sorry if this question went long, just want some orientation because I am a foreigner and have only been here in the U.S. 5 years after doing my masters here.
What I'm wondering about is the books they require you to be aware of. Asce 7, aashto, aci 318, aisc, wood. I think I have the wood and I've found some pdfs but I'm having trouble finding complete pdfs. I am more of a tangible person when studying and like to have the material in front of me. I have the cerm but now the test is all computer based so I can't bring in anything. What would you recommend
Passing on the first time means you are well prepared. If you don’t pass the PE the first time - don’t worry try again. It doesn’t mean you are any less smarter. But also do not to brag if you pass it the first try. These stuff are not rocket science - just requires a lot of work and time!!!
So is it recommended to take eet for depth portion also or can I still manage to pass if I took eet for breadth course and self study for depth part? (I'm planning to take transportation for depth, by the way)
I'd recommend Breadth and Depth, I tried to get Depth, but like I said, they were full (I think they implemented on-demand, so that may not be an issue anymore). So I didn't have a choice but to self-study for depth.
Hello Mat. I like to studying with examples and different problems. I can’t make a connection with CERM book. If I get on demand EET course you think it solve my problem?
Hi Matt this video is very helpful. Should I take geotech or structural? I heard the geotech exam may be easier from my non-design SE friends who have taken it. However, since I do structural design work, my coworkers have taken it and they passed, but found it hard. The structural is hard bc of the vast knowledge for all the standards and wood, masonry, steel, etc it requires, but for geotech depth I hear it's a lot of obscure theory questions, which I have no experience in.
Depends on what makes you happier, here's why I chose Structural instead of Geotech (yes, I almost went Geotech in undergrad): th-cam.com/video/SVpBjng32r4/w-d-xo.html
HI Mat Do you have to take a specific PE exam to work in that field? Most of my work are around Construction Management and do I have to take the PE structural as well if I want to work in the Strutural design field later in my career. Thank you
Not to my knowledge, but taking civil engineering matters, eg not electrical PE. But check the Ncees website and with others since it’s been too long since I took the PE
I know you will need to get licensed here even if you are licensed in another country unless you meet some special exception. You could look on the NCEES website.
@@MatPicardal Thanks for the info Mat, that is interesting because I was thinking it would take me more time so I decided to take it next April because this year I have a lot of travel scheduled. It is certainly hard to get back into study mode after graduation and working. Cheers, Aaron
@@brandon1770 3 years (I think) after you pass your P.E., you're eligible to take the S.E. exam. In California, the S.E. exam is required if you want to stamp/sign off on certain types of high profile buildings, such as hospitals and high rises. You can certainly work on those types of project without an S.E., but you can't legally be the one stamping the drawings. Also in California, since we deal with seismic analysis frequently, the SE exam also makes you more valuable/promotable, so I'd say it's more important in seismic regions than say states that don't require an S.E. Also in California, you also need to take a Seismic test and Surveying test along with the 8 hour PE exam to get your PE for California (stricter than other states). The SE exam has been nationalized, so everyone in the U.S. will take the same exact S.E. exam.
Hi Mat, I'm structural engineer graduated from Algeria i have a bachelor degree,i live in Georgia usa since 2015 I'm permanent resident, i did lot of applications for job no body call me for interview, I've never worked in my field here in USA, i would like to do the internship program that can give me more opportunities to find a job, is there anyway to do that here or not, thank you
Technically, any PE can stamp most civil engineering drawings, but it's unethical and a huge liability for you if you stamp something you're not competent in. You'll get sued if anything goes wrong with that structure and your license will probably be revoked later.

I did self study, read the entire Cerm. Did a ton of examples. Passed first try.
Can't use the CERM now that the course is CBT

So is it safe to say that you don't really need the CERM if you have the EET binders? I'm trying to avoid buying more bulky books than necessary.
