I pay £1.5k a month for a 1 bed flat in London, not including bills. I’m assuming most of these people are in house shares right? If not, that actually seems quite cheap.
@@jamessmithson-br7rm Yes I agree, if it's under £1.5k/ month then it's a house share. People who don't live in the uk think most of us earn lots of money and living big mansions, people are working to pay their bills meaning they have no disposable income...what's very common in the UK is a person will live in a share house ,make £1,800 and their rent just for a room (single or double bedroom) is between £750-£1,000 which means they have only £1,000 or less to survive on which including travelling, food , clothes ..etc. Another thing is when you live in shared houses. You won't feel comfortable. You're sharing the kitchen, bathroom with people who you don't know, no privacy, and some people are messy ..etc... But at least it's better than being homeless. But I'm pretty sure that's not what people want. But they don't have a choice because that's what they can afford. A lot of the times a one bedroom flat house especially in London is a minimum £2,000 and can easily reach up to £2,500, but most people in London make under £2,000...
I've never really researched rental prices or salaries in London but 600-1000 pounds per month (as a single) does not sound as high as I exptected it to be. With 2.5k net you could have an okay lifestyle.
flatshare these days cost £850 minimum (and zone 3-5 IF you're lucky. meaning: 1 hour commute to central london). for your own place, it's gonna be £1400 minimum. you won't have an ok lifestyle sadly unless you make minimum £3.5k net. that's ok
That guy @1:56, is living in a shared house 'renting a place, living in a double-room' , but the interviewer doesn't know...£650/month definitely a shared house any person who's paying rent under £1400 are living in shared houses.
London is really expensive. I pay around £650 for a bedroom flat outside of London, it's crazy have to pay so much for that I would prefer to be a property guardian in London. At least rent would be cheaper.
I can't understand why so many people want to live in London. That is one of the most ridiculous places on earth, cost of life is very high, when average wages are pathetically low. If you don't have AT LEAST £60k a year, leave that sick city tomorrow.
I really don't get people who think ANYONE in London is "rich". Bro, if you earn 200,000 a year - that's still only 8,000 a month if you were paying student loans off. I haven't even factored in the pension contribution, you could end up making only 7k. 1500 rent, leaves you with around 5k. Expenses and bills just add another 1k. You have 4k left - 1k for basic monthly expenses so MAYBE you save 3k. "But, but bro, 3k is a lot!111" Bear in mind you can get laid off from your job at any minute. Not many people can say they consistently make 200k a year for even 2 years straight. This is not that much money - you'll maybe save 30k a year. Meaning it will take almost 5 years to have 100k in savings. This is "good" money but it's by no means some significant, amazing money... You will be able to then afford a mortgage and pay £2000 a month for a dingy flat in Zone 5 lmfao. The UK is not designed for being rich by any means.
This is the truth. I'm moving to Italy next year and buying a property for €45000, it's 3 bedroom villa with a large parcel of land for growing vegetables, same kind of house in London would be like £800k, lol.
Facts it's never enough, I am a contractor, and still struggling to buy my own property. They are all too small, they are too boxy. I can just about afford something around 600k, but I don't like anything at all!!! I am gonna seriously consider Italy
I pay 32euros a week for my 2 bed cottage in West of Ireland. All gardens are mowed and grounds mowed by contractors. Maintance free...as we have a care taker who fixes everything. All for 126Euro a month. Lucky me

Young people renting in central london and shopping in sloane square. Says it all. You'll never get on the ladder with that attitude. Live on the outskirts and shop in Primark. That's how you'll be able to afford a deposit for a flat in outer London. Of course you'll never be able to afford in central london, those are for old people or millionaires.
I've been saving for 18 years. Practically didn't have a life in my 20s because of it, didn't drive or have a car until my 30s. Didn't even have a smart phone until 4 years ago, just an old school Nokia. In my late 30s, I now have a massive deposit, clean credit history and still can't afford anything decent in one of the cheapest areas in the U.K. As I now have too much saved up, housing schemes won't help me. That's what you get for being sensible and saving. Wish I'd spent it on travelling like my peers did. @davidthomas-ot4cl
