    Branding is actually a part of marketing...branding is a sub category of marketing. marketing entails all activities...PROMOTION is the act of creating awareness. marketing entails : research, branding, analysis, placement and even sales.

    How do you recommend artists communicate their value or branding in their marketing? Is it finding your strengths and playing them up in the product? Or being more in peoples faces about their perceived value when promoting?

    There are three reasons Jermi and Joshua Bell weren't recognized or paid attention to while basically busking and none of it has to do with branding. 1) most people don't expect famous musicians to busk. They feel like they don't need to so aren't expecting to see them performing in any place other that a concert venue. 2) At least in the U.S. people walking down the street or through a public place like a subway are on their way to somewhere and are self absorbed. They may have ear buds in already and not even hear the music. They don't have or want to take the time to stop and listen. Just watch busking videos on TH-cam to see the difference between the U.S. and Europe. Europeans will gather around a busker if they good and listen. 3) Music is everywhere. We are saturated with with music that has perfect timing and sound quality because of the recording technology. Live music may not always be played in the best acoustic settings and there will be mistakes and flaws.
    Walmart is a brand. Chevy is a brand. Soulless and non descript. We are musicians. We are artists. We are human beings. Say all you want about branding but we aren't a brand. If we have to be told what's worth listening to instead of making that decision ourselves, we're done for.

    Awareness is only one part of marketing depending on where you are in your funnel.
    Branding is a PART of marketing -_-

    • @BrandmanNetwork
      @BrandmanNetwork  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Branding not a part of marketing. It SHOULD inform HOW you market. Branding is who you are-and marketing is how you build awareness. Many people fail when they don't acknowledge them as separate things that must work in tandem.

    • @ashavari
      @ashavari 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrandmanNetwork that's not true, you are misinformed about marketing. As someone who has been working in marketing for 4 years, I can tell you that marketing is the process of creating & communicating value. Awareness is only the top level of the marketing funnel. Promotion is only one of the 4 Ps (the others being Price, Product and Placement....which INCLUDE creating value and branding).
      Please don't spread misinformation. There are tons of opinion articles that help to distinguish the difference between awareness and branding, but both are subsects of marketing. As a marketer you can specializing in different ones....but they are still all part of marketing as a whole.

    • @ashavari
      @ashavari 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrandmanNetwork branding is different from promotion, advertising and awareness, yes.
      But marketing is not only that! ^ that's a very big misconception. Strategic marketing combines everything. It's an umbrella term.. but you can choose to specialize in a certain type of marketing. People are most familiar with Promotion tactics. But marketing is not only tactical work. It is also high level strategy that includes branding. But yes, it's typically better to get a brand manager as opposed to an advertiser, who specializes in that to help solidify the identity of what's being sold.

    • @ashavari
      @ashavari 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrandmanNetwork fwiw I dont think we actually disagree all that much, it's just semantics and how we define both marketing and branding! If you only see marketing as advertising and promotion, then obviously you have to treat it as a completely separate thing. But if you see it all as ingredients of a delicious pie, you'll see that they are so essential to each other. You're right that branding informs your marketing strategy, however, you also need marketing data to reasses your brand and make changes to it over time, since it is a fluid and organic thing dependent on how the public perceives YOU.
      While your brand's mission, vision, values and IDENTITY are developed by the business founder / owner .... things like aesthetics, image and design and all the tools used to communicate that identity (which are often considered a part of branding), is where it does NOT differ from marketing at all and gets brought into the general marketing "umbrella" ✨. I'd say the tools used to develop the brand identity visually and through copy is part of content marketing & product marketing. From that, you can go into price strategy, distribution and promotion too. All of these work in tandem with each other, but treating it as entirely separate things / disjoint or generalizing marketing as only promotion is flawed.

    • @BrandmanNetwork
      @BrandmanNetwork  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You didn't disagree with what I said at all, you just described the details. No argument here.
      My only point is there are many who don't understand that branding is a separate task and must be worked into the strategy. It must be treated with as much care because once you start marketing, branding is happening whether you like or not.

      Focus on the first small group of ppl you want to attract first. Xxxtentacion and juice wrld focused on depressed emo kids. Chance focused on middle class kids who still appreciate bars and old blues vibes. Bryson tiller focused on girls 17-26 who were a part of the drake and r&b blog days. Find who you resonate with and tap into that group that’s a good first step. Once you’re more recognizable within that small world other people who are more loosely associated w that world will come at a higher rate because by then your brand is becoming more widespread

Some of my stuff will be totally different like Jazz, EDM, and ambient/garage. I do sell some singles too as certain genres but wondered if a fan base could become confused....Nobodys talking about this?
