    Fiberglass. The worst insulation in existence. Decent air filters. Terrible insulation. The pink people have had unlimited advertising budgets for many years to brainwash consumers into utilizing that carcinogenic nightmare. Love watching your videos. Former cellulose installation installer here. Michael, building science tells us to never terminate moisture filled exhaust into a soffit as it is sucked back into the attic and adding moisture back into the attic creating mold and mildew. Cut a hole into the roof to terminate. Moisture filled exhaust to harmlessly evaporate into the atmosphere through a proper roof vent. Unsolicited advice here. 😀

  • @toddratka9693
    @toddratka9693 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    You're not supposed to vent the bath fan to a vented soffit. The hot moist air gets sucked right back into the attic through the soffit vent. Vent through the roof.

    Why isn’t air sealing a code standard and inspected before insulation is blown in?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dad Austin - Although air barrier inspections and blower door tests are still mandatory, there is some flexibility for climate zones three through eight. Let's say you choose the prescriptive compliance option. In that case, you must meet the three ACH 50, but if you follow one of the performance paths, sections four, five or 406, you can meet the overall energy performance targets with flexibility up to five ACH 50. Since both paths are challenging in their own ways, I don't know how often they will be used. For climate zones one and two, there are already five ACH 50, so there is no additional flexibility. Thanks for watching and we hope you have a happy and blessed day!

  • @MyGoogleYoutube

    Why not do a blower door test before and after all of that sealing work?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could definitely do that!

    • @Bootchair
      @Bootchair 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can. But overall most homes people buy do not have any air sealing in the attic. In my experience doing plenty of blower door tests on 1400ish sqfoot tract homes they almost all come out over 2000cfm -50Pa and with the use of pressure pan taking pressure readings at outlets I pull around 25-30PA meaning the attic space is more connected to the building envelope.

    What is the reason to foam each ceiling rafter ? Possible leaks from the dry wall screws ?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      During the summer, when attics receive a lot of sunlight, insulation helps keep them cooler. For proper airflow, keep all vents open. Rafter insulation in an attic could reduce the temperature in an attic by 20 degrees or more, thereby lowering air conditioning costs and reducing heat transfer.
