  • Basically a puller that grabs onto the crank shaft ends and allows you to pull it through the main bearings.....

    Nice video Walter! I love how careful and detailed you are on all the saws even if it's not yours.

    Walter, do you know of a crank puller tool that supports the center race, not the outer race like the oem tool does? For use on a 281

      Just the ones I make, and I've haven't built any for a while.

    I much prefer the idea of pressure on the inner race....very nice. I need to make one of those tools :)

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yup, just need to make certain those bearings are seated. My bearing tool (you probably saw) covers the outer race to minimize pressure on the INNER race. Does it matter? Not even a little but, like you; I have anxiety issues...:).

      I worked as a journeyman mechanic at a gold mill in CO back in the day. We were constantly dealing with bearings....some as big as a truck. You NEVER put pressure on an outer race...if you can at all avoid it.

      @@kevinfetner7983 I got extremely lucky on one gearbox failure on my LX985 New Holland Skid Steer that locked up my wheels one winter while plowing. Turns out some bearings got jacked up. Glad I didn't mess up any gears. those were majorly expensive vs. bearings I had to replace.

    I hardly think this is overkill the extra care that you have taken is a testament to how you live. My family business is screw machining, automatic lathes, with high tolerances. Being thorough is not anxious it is having a standard for yourself. Great video Walt.

    Is carbon build-up in the exhaust port a problem when you use 32:1 40:1 oil/gas mixture and do you get rid of the 'spark screens' when you do the muffler mods ? Thnx

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      With decent oil carbon build up is not an issue. If the saw is going to work state lands or I have no idea where it may work, I do muffler mods with the screen in, like that 254 mod. Just have to increase the opening to compensate for the screen. If it is a personal saw for my farm? and GTG's... I have way more latitude..:)

      The reason I designed the Stihl case tools...I had these for a while. And had used the Stihl case assembly tool...wanted to bring that Husqvarna shop tool concept plus a handle to make them easier to use into the ms660 kit saw world. BUT I sell more to the Husqvarna crowd, no idea why! These work well for a shop...and are cheap.

    Hi i am a veiwer from Ottawa Canada.
    I am very much a saw enthusiast.
    i collect saws from the late 70s and early 80s.
    I am an Arborist and i want to use some of my old saws at work.
    aswell as rebulid newer saws.
    Is there some place i can learn how to rebuild these saws? Cause i just dont have the experience, or knoledge of how its done. or even the confidence to do it myself. I know the basics of how they work and what parts are used on a rebuild but thats it.
    I had a bad experience once i paid a mechanic to rebulid an 064 for me it blew up on its first tank of gas.
    I am very driven to learn how this is done to a science. And i was hopeing you could point me in the right direction for my first steps of learning this. maby how you started and learned.
    Thanks
    Curtis Basten

      Actually youTube and the saw site like Arboristsite.com are pretty good "general" sources on information....but there is one site that might really be helpful for the older saws...let me get the address...:www.chainsawcollectors.se

    Can a person still get a puller that threads onto the coarse threads of a 162 clutch side? If so where would I start looking?

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try the standard places like ebay and HLSupply. I make them for my tools but they are more expensive than if you can get OEM shop tools.
