- For this episode of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal presents DJ Nu-Mark, aka Uncle Nu. He picked up three records-The Rockettes, George Benson, and Charlie Mingus-and created something magical. In fact, the final result was quite puzzling, in a “How the fuck did you do that?” kind of way.

Brian Mitchell i agree. Ski beats instrument implementation was on point. Black milk was great too. The beat wasn't as good as this one or ski but he had a lot less to work with imo.

When he pulled out George Benson's Breezin' album I thought right away "He's sampling Affirmation." Glad he did though! Shit came out clean.

I love to see someone take a guitar sample and do more than just one loop with it. It demonstrates musical versatility when chopping a record. Superb.

Nu Mark!!! Awesome, I sampled those same guitars from Benson years ago. Wish I had to know how to flip 'em like that way back when though.
You can tell which producer's on the show that have surpassed the 10,000 hour mark to achieve greatness he's one of them ....

Maybe my favorite Rhythm Roulette-Episode. He used all three records and flips the samples instead of just straight looping. Respect.
I'm a 100% old school guy. I use my MPC, my S900 and strictly 50-70s vinyl for my beats. One beat = one floppy disc. But thats just me.
This shows that you can make dope sample based music with any equipment, just be respectful to the game, learn your craft and don't be too lazy to try and learn new things.
And sampling is true art!! I play 6 diffrent instrument and I'm classical trained, but I still make old skool beats, because its an artform for itself!
FINALLY!! someone who actually used all 3 of the samples and made them work together & also i liked how he actually worked his way around the store to get sounds from different sections not just in 1 section like how the others have honestly only Dj nu-mark,Statik selektah, & kirk knight are the best so far i give it to kirk for being a young producer & holding his own but mass appeal needs to stop playing & just have madlib or 9th wonder on here

I live in Antibes and the Jazz festival where Mingus at Antibes was recorded in the 60 still exist every summer. I just discovered and heard a piece of history from my home town thanks to you ! cheers
Incredible! What's even more amazing is how he used a sample that Nujabes used. Yet instead of using it how Nujabes did. He flipped it and made it sound nothing like how Nujabes flipped it. Respect! This is 1 reason why I love hip hop!

I agree but Mingus & Benson? Who could fail with that? Still he did use all 3 records...and I think he's the only 1 so he gets respect for that. It was an amazing beat too & he paired the samples with his ears, not that much tweaking. He may have perfect pitch.

I literally just got that George Benson album today at Goodwill for $0.69 on a junk bin dig. I have a couple of other George Benson albums somewhere in my bins and he hasn't done me wrong when I'm making beats. Crazy how I've seen this episode 3 times and I didn't recognize this was the album.
