I have been using your ‘one now, two for later’ rule on staples and it saves me so much because I don’t have to return to the store as often and the things I love are always in stock in my pantry 💕🙋🏻‍♀️💕

I freeze whole bags of spinach and just throw in what I need when cooking and it turns out great! Obviously if you’re eating spinach salad that won’t work but I alway do this for smoothies and my eggs for breakfast and some rice dishes!

For spinach, you can freeze it as the whole leaves without chopping for recipes that just have you adding fresh spinach to some kind of hot dish. You wont be able to tell the difference and you dont have to worry about thawing and draining. We use this a lot for soups. Adds a bunch of nutrition to soup and since it wilts down you can add a larger amount.

Our Costco sells their rotisserie chicken pulled from the bone in a bulk pack. I divide it a freeze it for casseroles (as it is a mix of shredded/chopped). Just a heads up for something to look for in the further.

For the cheese - we open one bag, decant into the big mason jars. Put one jar in the fridge, the other 2 in the freezer along with the extra bag. One 10oz(?)jar gets used up in about 2 weeks without getting moldy. (family of 4) :) I also bought the plastic mason jar lids instead of the metal ones.

The red grapes are so good at Costco that my husband buys them even if they cost more. They are perfect in (rotisserie) chicken salad, along with celery.
I'd love any more ideas with their rotisserie chicken. We love all the Mexican food we make with it, and stir fry like you mentioned. And on its own with Hawaiian Rolls and salad.

I guessed about $400, so not too far off. These big grocery hauls make me very nostalgic for when I was a kid (one of nine children and my poor parents didn't have access to a Costco). Now I live alone, so not much need for a Costco, but I just love watching these hauls. Also, your food/grocery videos always help me a LOT because most food comes packaged in larger quantities than I can eat myself before it spoils, and you've helped me drag my food waste WAY down by all your tricks. Really appreciate you share good info that works for tiny households as well as large households.

I put frozen spinach or silverbeet (aka chard) in my lasagne sauce to sneak some veges in the kids. Rough cut the raw leaves, saute in a little oil, then freeze in muffin trays. Once frozen store the "pucks" in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. When I want to use it, I use a sharp knife to cut the frozen puck into very fine dice, and put that through the meat sauce. It looks like fresh herbs, and you can't taste it.
Perfect! And a great way to use up cheap in season produce before it goes bad. I use my freezer to store cheap produce in useable pre cooked portions. So we have fresh veges year round but only pay in season prices.

On the pesto, use ice cube trays. Then once it is frozen you can store in a ziploc. At my house it’s just me and my husband, but I get 4 of the chickens pick all the meat off and eat on that for 2 weeks (I shop every other Saturday)

I did not know the cottage cheese trick! Love it! Agreed, ricotta is expensive! (Trader Joes has the best price in my area). I always have cottage cheese on hand, it's a great tip for me. I also love the nut container in the car idea. I get hangry, I am danger to myself and others, so I always carry snacks in my bag, but sometimes I eat them all, or forget to replace them. I'm a newbie to the US, and I'm learning fast that most food options available when you're on the go are, well, let's be polite and say "not my cup of tea". Thanks for the tip.
I can also confirm Costco string cheese freezes well! It's still tasty, and not a weird consistency post defrosted. Just pull out as needed and allow to defrost in the fridge 👍

@@pinkysaurusrawr Hi there! I'm Australian, but moved here after 7 years in Germany, and re; food, yes! Europe has laws around food additives, and basically doesn't allow most of the junk that's in food here :(. Lots of cheap(er), health options for on the go, and even if you do grab a random bar somewhere you don't have to worry about the 689 ingredients being added. In saying all of this I'm loving living here! I'm just bugged about the food, it's sad that eating well is difficult and $$$$$. Thankfully I cook :)

  • @grizzfan08

Costco actually has a good meat department as well, especially the ground beef. The Kirkland tortilla chips can really last a long time, but they do take up quite a bit of room on the shelf. And I agree about the individual chips as well... I prefer the SunChips more than regular potato chips. For the overall haul, I'm going to say about $375 because the diapers and wipes more than likely ate up a good chunk of your budget. For the next video, how about the next trip to Costco for the "consumables" haul. Great food haul btw!!! Keep it up Mama J!!!

Not a good prices for a fresh foods in Costco! After the shopping he agreed. …….. I usually run a several stores at the same time to get more stuff for same money. Right there’s no way this is possible in California right now 😭 my grocery bill a month is 550$ sometimes more with TWO adults and two toddlers. We do eat plant based so it’s a bit more expensive.

@@alybean4211 I live in indiana. We've always had decent food prices, but over the past few months, our grocery costs have tripled. I spent $300 for two weeks worth of groceries for me, my husband, and our 3 year old. Some things will last two to three weeks, and other things I'll have to replenish at the store next week.

I also throw the bones in the instant pot and some seasonings and pressure them to make chicken stock. I freeze them into 1 or 2 cup portions or larger and throw them in the freezer for soups and gravies. I never buy chicken stock.

I put the chicken carcasses in the freezer to make broth with. I'll add any other bones--such as ham bones--that I've frozen plus vegetable peelings (onions, celery, etc.) that I collect in a bag in the freezer and simmer everything together with water in a stock pot. I'll then strain it and either make soup right away or can or freeze the broth.

We buy two rotisserie chickens per week. We serve the first chicken as the entree for one dinner. The second one, I pull off all the meat and store in my freezer and pull when I need it. We make chicken Alfredo, pot pies, soups, salad toppings, or just chicken salad.

We've froze small portions of pesto or anything needed to separate in small portions in snack ziplocs and put those small bags in an actual Ziploc freezer bags. We buy chubs of ground beef and I weigh them out in 1lb and 2lb portions in at Ziploc bags. Freeze everything flat so they thaw fast.

For spinach and loose greens if you can take it out of the bag and put it into a container with a paper towel on the bottom and then a paper towel on the top it actually works better than being in the bag because you can shake the container to separate the leaves and you can turn the container over and rotate it I get about 2 weeks out of greens doing it that way

I was guessing closer to $300. But for a trip like that I always end spending more at the bulk stores. Thanks for the tips. We love pesto, I got a bunch of the smaller jars on sale with rebates or coupon. I think I will have to get the teriyaki sauce, the stirfry veggies, and maybe make some meatballs.

You can also freeze spinach. We tend to buy fresh spinach from Costco and if I know we won't be able to use it before it goes bad we freeze the rest for smoothies.
