The UFC have announced 3 banger fights in the top ten in the Middleweight division but with one problem - they're all number one contender fights. And if 3 number one contender fights wasn't bad enough, the champion won't even be facing anyone in these matchups in his next fight. - กีฬา

Jared Cannonier is booked against Nassourdine Imavov, Sean Strickland is booked against Paulo Costa, Robert Whittaker is booked against Khamzat Chimaev, Roman Dolidze before was booked before to fight Anthony Hernandez before, but seems changed now

I think it’s deffo going to be the winner of Whittaker and Chimaev. They don’t want Strickland as a champ and Cannonier doesn’t have as much of a name as Whittaker and Chimaev
I think what they're doing actually makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. Strickland vs Costa is very marketable, both guys love trash talk/social media and will hype that fight up like hell. Also, placing Strickland vs Costa locks him out of a title fight win or lose, which is exactly what the UFC wants, Strickland is a brand risk and not easily marketable to the wider audience. If Strickland beats Costa, they can deny him the title shot on the basis of beating the #7 guy who's coming off a loss because that win isn't good enough, and if he loses he obviously gets nothing. As far as Chimaev vs Whittaker is concerned, they're probably hoping Chimaev wins so he can fight for the belt later in the year at Abu Dhabi against the winner of DDP and Izzy. The Cannonier Imavov fight feels like a failsafe for if both Strickland and Whittaker win. For Strickland they just don't want to give him a shot, and for Whittaker he has 2 loses to Izzy and one very recent loss to DDP, so it's hard to give him a shot against specifically either of those 2. If Costa wins and Chimaev doesn't they might give him a shot, but ultimately if Chimaev loses they can just do the winner of Cannonier and Imavov, however that might be harder if Izzy becomes champ and Cannnonier wins because of how lackluster their last fight was. This is just how I see it from the perspective of the UFC, I think if Izzy wins he will probably just take whichever fight he wants most out of the winners from the 3 title contention bouts, and if DDP wins he will probably just choose whichever fighter wins and is a fresh matchup for him (Costa, Chimaev, or Imavov/Cannonier.

I would have matched up Izzy vs. Khamzat in Abu Dhabi and Sean vs. Whittaker at 302. Basically you have two #1 contender fights and whoever pulls off the more impressive win gets the shot against the winner of Dricus vs. Jared.

People sleep on Dricus technically just because he is unorthodox and has a dirty style, he is defensively sound. If he can get into boxing range and mix takedowns he’ll beat Izzy, if Izzy can keep him at a distance he will probably win.
Whittaker vs Strickland at 302 would have been great
The strange thing is that if Izzy wins, Whittaker already lost to him twice, Cannonier lost to him once, and Strickland beat him up already. Maybe they give Izzy the chance to avenge the Strickland loss (if Strickland beats Costa anyway). But i wouldn't be surprised if the UFC protects Izzy from probably the guy who delivered him the most brutal loss of his career.
Have the winner of Whittaker vs Chimaev fight the winner of Du Plessis vs Adesanya (since that was the main number one contender fight anyway) and have the winners of Cannonier vs Imavov and Strickland vs Costa fight each other for a title eliminator to see whos after that

Whittaker (#3) beats Costa (#7), cool that makes sense. However then they make Costa (#7) who just lost to Whittaker (#3) gets to face Strickland (#1)? What happens if Costa wins? He can’t get moved up to #1 cause he just lost to #3, so wtf happens then?
Also Khamzat (#11) coming off a narrow win over an unranked Kamaru Usman who had so many things working against him. Khamzat’s who hasn’t beat a single ranked MW gets to fight the #3 ranked dude, and then if he wins he gets a title shot. Where did warning your stripes go the privilege here is insane. Really hope to see Whittaker starch Khamzat to restore some order here.
It really should have been Whittaker (#3) Vs Strickland (#1) for the next title challenger. Give Cannonier the title shot in the meantime against DDP, and have Khamzat (#11) vs Costa (#7).

Strickland vs Costa isn't for title contention - it's full-on bullshit. The rankings jump - for what those are worth - is balls. It's to bury Strickland further down for talking too much and offending mainstream media, and/or to punish Costa for pulling out of shit for two years.
Cannonier getting snubbed, too - #4 fighting #8. Nothing against Imavov, but they obviously have no intention of ever giving Jared a shot. Probably trying to build up Imavov as a younger gatekeeper type.
Izzy does not deserve shit - he's 2-2 in the last 4, with 2 lame wins, an arguable re-match robbery against Whittaker, and a loss to Jan before that. He is probably on the verge of being washed, but they are getting him in there for the money fight, and also in hopes he will, perhaps, actually win this, all for the grand purpose of it all:

All these dangerous guys are embroiled against eachother, and Khamzat is given the easiest and highest profile match he could get (along with the most agregeous rankings jump, of course). Poor Bobby has been doing relatively well for the past couple of years, ex-champion, multiple-time title contender, but has a very suspect chin, probably isn't a big threat on the ground comparatively, and has miiiiiiiiles upon miles on him. Khamzat has a hope of probably finishing Rob in the first and then they'll send him (skipping over viable threats like Allen) straight against - ideally - Israel, who's birthday is in July, so he'll be pushing 36 by that time. Mark my words!
