It's quite telling of a person's personality when they tell the writers of a TV show riffing on them that they're holding back and can go even darker. I think the only thing she said they couldn't do was make a joke about her and Harvey Weinstein. I gained a lot of respect for her from this show.
As the daughter of an abusive mother I know for sure I could get to be that mean to her just beacuse of all the hate I built up in the years. So I understand Bojack.
Same here. When I was younger everyone kept telling me that I wouldn't feel like that forever and that once I was grown up I'd be able to make amends with her. Now I'm an adult and I still resent that bitch. Some things just can't be forgiven and just the fact that you're related shouldn't be an excuse for everything someone has done to you.
I don't have an abusive parent, but y'all are absolutely valid in not wanting to forgive. It's fucked that you're expected to reconcile just because you're related. You don't owe them shit.
You guys see Bojack from the perspective of Hollyhock who doesn't know how abusive his parents were But...I mean... YOU, unlike Hollyhock, have seen all the previous seasons and you know how Bojack relationship with his mother was. For God shake she made him smoke a cigarette once So instead of keep saying: it's his mother and he shouldn't treat her that way you shoud ask yourself what other horrible things she has done to him that make him treat her that way in her current situation. Its actually very sad.
Exactly. Abusive parents do not have to be forgiven. That's a bad myth that needs to stopped immediately. There are mulitiple scenes in Bojack that showcase Beatrice being a horrid mother that blamed her own dissatisfaction with life on her son. Just because time finally caught up with her does not mean Bojack should just forget everything she's done and make nice. Trust me, if the situations were reversed she wouldn't.
The concept of forgiveness has been alterated for a long, long time and in the wrong way. It is supposed that the goal of forgiving is that the person who was wronged, Hurt, betrayed, etc can feel better and go on with his/her life and don't go to destructive tendencies and being part of the revenge and hate cycles. Unfortunately, forgiveness has become in making the wrong doer feel better and use it as a tool to still taking advantage of others and still be the same asshole and jerkass who can still abuse of others. One thing is to forgive, but that's not equal to think and act as if nothing has ever happened.
Forcing him to smoke wasn't that bad. Saying things like: "you ruined me" to a little kid is the kind of things that will scar them for life, which it did for Bojack.
I appreciate how Bojack doesn’t immediately forgives her mother, it feels more real. I love how they showed that even after *SPOLIERS FOR SEASON 5* Beatrice’s death, he is having troubles sorting out how he feels towards her; he still resents her but still wishes he could have had the good relationship he never had and how the mistreatments she had towards him will still carry over and have an effect on him even after she died
"Silence sky rodent! To the shovels." Also Tod's tattoos are now LA Kings and Skinny Jugheads. Also everything Jessica Biel related was just wonderful.
23:50 To answer that question, yeah pretty much. I've read somewhere that the whole "Mr. Peanutbutter goes into politics" arc of this season was meant to be a metaphor for Trump's election. Luckily for the characters on the show, at least Mr. Peanutbutter has enough self-awareness to eventually realizes how bad at it he'd be (which is very telling of our real-world situation when even PB, of all people, is more self-aware than the current U.S. president! :p )
I see Bojack and Diane's relationship like Don and Peggy's. Maybe Bojack liked her at first but now he just wants to be friends with her. I haven't watch season 5 so pls don't spoil me
I don't get why people seem to like this season less than the others (by which I mean it has a 97% rating as opposed to the other season's hundreds). It's emotionally devastating, it's fascinating and intriguing, and most of all, I feel like this is the season where the show absolutely mastered it's comedic style.
When I got my jaws unwired, I immediately ate a microwaved hot dog that just napalmed my mouth b/c I didn't have the muscles to chew it or spit it out. Word to the wired wise. Love you guys.
for what is worth, all of that is mostly katrina's fault because she was the one pulling the strings in Mr PB's campaign and you know he doesn't have principles on his own, he only do and say what people wants to hear and see, that's why she wanted him to be governor, he's the perfect puppet, this had to happen so he realizes that
Bridge to Hawaï is a reference to a landmark case study on riders added to bills for individuals interest that was just a money siphon that never happened, that’s what’s being referenced here
The bridge to Hawaii is a reference to the bridge to nowhere when congress funded a multimillion-dollar project to build a bridge to a tiny island with nothing on it that no one has a reason to visit.
I can't advocate for the whole "fake it 'till you make it" mindgame. It sent me into years of an identity crisis during high school, which I have to say was the worst timing for an identity crisis. Granted teenagers pretty much go through one anyway just trying to grow up and mold themselves into the whole "being a real adult" concept, but seriously that shit made it way too easy to slip into being suicidal for me personally since "why live if its possible you were never born" (born representing the idea of being your true self since birth). But anyway, great reaction.
Diane knows she and Mr. Peanutbutter aren't long term compatible yet marries him because she's lonely and insecure. Then she makes him miserable and complains. She has no redeeming qualities and is totally toxic
Really? This is Bojack Horseman. They tackle every controversial subject imaginable. No one would give a shit if the roles were reversed, it's all in your head.
Jessica Biel actually asked the writers to be as ruthless to her as possible.

@@manband20 Same. It is the sole reason I call myself a Jessica Biel fan. Which I guess supports the show's take on her now that I think of it.
Dam really that’s amazing I have so much respek for her now
The show's celebrity cameos are absolutely hilarious and Jessica Biel and Margo Martindale are definitely the highlights for exactly this reason
@Kairo Lewis Definitely, I've been watching on Flixzone} for months myself :)

I can also vouch as someone with an abusive mother. There is no forgiveness.
Happens. A lot
I think once they see Free Churo, they'll get it.
I don't have an abusive parent, but y'all are absolutely valid in not wanting to forgive. It's fucked that you're expected to reconcile just because you're related. You don't owe them shit.
They basically dropped romance from Bojack/Diane's relationship after season 1, but they are necessities in the other's life, and I love that

Fun fact, Rupaul played the Ant Queen on this episode. How appropriate.
I knew the voice sounded familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it
"Wait, so... The fracking definitely caused the sink hole?" Excellent analysis, as always, Nahid.
All Zach Braff wants is validation from somebody hahaha

Jessica Biel actually encouraged this portrayal of her, she has a great sense of humor.

I can't die! I'm not famous enough yet to make the "In Memoriam" montage at the Oscars!
Jessica Biel is the best on this show.
She really has a GREAT sense of humor. A lot of people wouldn't tolerate those jokes

Dafty S5 is a must watch
But I don't think Don ever liked Peggy, not in a romantic way. He always saw potential in her and eventually saw her as something of a sister/protege.
One of my favorite episodes. I live the emotional moments but man, this dark comedy is my fucking jam
An animated show can never go wrong with Patton Oswalt as a guest voice.

I wasn't sure about climate change, but then Nahid said "Bro" a couple times, and that just cleared up everything.

I can’t wait for free churro
damn that's a harsh one
Free Churo is my favorite episode.
arrow time is great too and is sooner!
the funniest episode this season imo
Honestly I think the combination of Holly hock and Beatrice is good for Bojack, to be around people like him seem to make him a little more honest.
It's hard to explain to someone who lives in a nice family the hatred you have for your parents.
After a rewatch I realized that the mom was not talking about bojack being a waste of her husbands gezz but Henrietta
This episode is all about how people would rather do something to make themselves feel good than do something for their own good.
This is probably my favorite episode
Jesus why are they so forgiving of a evil abusive mother
The bridge to Hawaii is a reference to the bridge to nowhere when congress funded a multimillion-dollar project to build a bridge to a tiny island with nothing on it that no one has a reason to visit.
3:39 the exact premise for Santa Clarita Diet
One of the most unique and interesting episodes in the show! Loved it.
I swear my last words in life will be "I regret everything"

ALL HAIL THE NEW GOD, FIRE
Water is my new god.
0:34 bojack’s mom actually said that Henrietta was a waste of her husband sperm
I just noticed the queen ant is voiced by Ru Paul
We are all Diane
Speak for yourself.
Sounds like earthquake drills are basically the same as tornado drills
Have they realized that the penguin is Patton Oswalt aka the Koenings
Watching this during the Corona Virus quarantine seems very appropriate.

how much for rana's jaw to heal?
H2-OH NO!!!
Also have to watch out of pot holes, not just pot heads.
There is an episode about cannibalism in chilling adventures of sabrina
If all the Normies were trapped underground who would they eat first?
Why does everything in the shot look crooked?
Zach didn't die, he was even in the editing of this video after they burned him.
Best Ángel Exterminador's parody. Luis Buñuel would be proud (?).
Go outside and lay flat? LOL
They wont survive the next episode.
Make Rana react to "Through the wire" by Kanye West

Holy shit, Nahid has a bald spot. It looks so bizarre.

no it isnt
Diane knows she and Mr. Peanutbutter aren't long term compatible yet marries him because she's lonely and insecure. Then she makes him miserable and complains. She has no redeeming qualities and is totally toxic
They both have things they need to
sort out, for example Mr. Peanutbutter isn’t the greatest listener and Diane needs to figure out what she wants
You're not too bright...
I strongly dislike the ant queen b-story, and feel like if the genders were reversed there would be outcry
