Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious - and notoriously fashionable - villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella. Disney’s “Cruella” is directed by Craig Gillespie (“I Tonya”) and produced by Andrew Gunn (“Freaky Friday”), Marc Platt (“Mary Poppins Returns”) and Kristin Burr (“Christopher Robin”), with Emma Stone and Michelle Wright (“Baby Driver”) serving as executive producers. Two-time Oscar®- winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “A Room with a View”) creates the dazzling and imaginative costumes, which take on a life of their own.

    - I really do hope this movie gets nominated for costume design, as I feel the costumes were a separate character all their own as well.
    - And as for the four different imaginings of Cruella (1961 animated, Glenn Close in 101 & 102 Dalmatians, Victoria Smurfett on Once Upon A Time and Emma Stone) they’re all iconic in their own way.

This movie was kind of an underdog in itself. Everyone thought that Disney couldn’t possible mix in the like-ability, darkness, villainy, sympathy and logical backstory of cruella that actually makes you root for her but also accept her as a villain when the movie ends. And somehow they did. This movie is a joy to watch and is surely top 3 best Disney live action movies (in my opinion the best).

@@Niop_Tres well at least you are original. Most people will complain about the opposite, how she was “impossible to root for” in this film. I thought it was actually quite easy to root for her, adding the baroness as a comparison was a great and essential move for Disney. She shows us that cruella is actually the one you should want to win.
Every villain was good at one point. You all have to start somewhere and I can see her becoming a more villainous cruella in the future. Especially with estella “dead”. I mean she was a thief and she did not so good things just to overthrow the baroness. I think Disney found a way to perfectly balance the will for you to root for them and the understanding that she will be a villain in the future. They could’ve had her skin the puppies but you know how everyone is about this movie. They would not of settled for a protagonist killing a dog, even evil dogs

I finished watching Cruella yesterday and I have to say this origin story of how she truly became Cruella De Vil was perfectly setup. Emma Stone really made the role her own. What makes this version of Cruella different from Glenn Close's Cruella is that we get to see who she truly was before becoming the villain to the Dalmatians, Anita and Roger who are of course introduced in this film. Getting to see a different side to Estella/Cruella where she cared about Horace & Jasper as well as others was never explored in previous iterations and we get to see it in this film. Their is that duality Estella faces whether she wants to be Cruella or Estella, Is she truly like her mother, and Emma Stone in that moment does an amazing job of trying to figure who she truly wants to be. Then of course getting to see her showing of her fashion skillset with the amazing designs gave it that extra pop. I will say the 70's backdrop with all the different songs of the 70's playing in the background felt like you were magically transported to the 1970s. The level of authenticity to bring that era was done really well for this film. Then with the introduction of Anita Darling and Roger Ratcliffe with Anita being a childhood friend of Estella/Cruella setting up the Dalmatian universe was brilliantly executed especially with the mid-credit scene with Cruella giving each one of them a special gift and eventually Anita Darling and Roger Ratcliffe will cross path with their respective dogs Perdita and Pongo for the sequel. One thing I will say is that it definitely had a cross between The Dark Knight and Joker films with Cruella De Vil's backstory with the introduction and mayhem that was nicely balanced for the character. Even though the story was fast paced it explored every facet of the titular character and Paul Walter Hauser is just a scene stealer and his humor is laugh out loud throughout the whole film. Definitely worth the watch.

My mom and I watched it in theaters and we both loved it. I was kinda hoping how it would show how she got all the puppies when Jasper and Horace would be kidnapping the 15 puppies. I imagined a end credits scene right after they steal Pongo’s puppies. You see them steal the puppies then they drive off to the house and you see them drop off the puppies then sit in front of the tv and Cruella walks in and says something like oh you got more puppies. Excellent. They will make excellent coats. She laughs and the camera zooms outside to the gate of Hell Hall and her laughter echoes when the screen goes black.

I disagree that Anita is “more bland” in the 95 film! She has a career, she becomes a mother, has more dialogue with Nanny, more romance scenes with Rodger, hits Rodger with her bag. She also figures out Cruella’s plan and contacts the police. All of which is absent from the ‘61 animated film.

This is an alternate universe Cruella. The non smoking, punk-rebel, friend to animals. Horace and Jasper in 101 had no problem killing puppies but in this they have a dog best friend. Cruella has a mutt as a best friend. There is no way this Cruella would kill a puppy. She even befriended her mother’s killers. I'm not one to really like fashion...but I liked how dramatic the Cruella outfits were and the entrances she made with each one. The white cloak at the white and black ball with the match burning it up revealing the bright red dress, riding in on a motorcycle with a makeup made mask saying the future, riding off then turning off the lights to see her named scrawled on the building, her walking onto the baroness' car and locking her in while draping the train of her dress over the window with a part saying the past referring to the baroness.
It was bold with the dump truck, but she made that just as wonderful with the headline about her being part of the outfit and riding away with yards of fabric trailing after her down the street like Rapunzel's hair.

while all the live-action performances of Cruella are amazing, Glenn Close was the one to immortalize her in live-action. she set the bar extremely high and gave an Oscar-deserving performance. Glenn's films are also long overdue for an Oscar for their costume design (102 was nominated but didn't win). Emma Stone was amazing, and she deserves an Oscar for her portrayal. I find that this sequel idea would make sense because it would definitely not be possible for Cruella to kill dogs after raising one her whole life. Near the end of the movie we can also see that Cruella has created a bond with Dalmatians making her less likely to kill Dalmatians in the future. Finally it would not make sense if she sought to kill Pongo and Perdita’s puppies as she was the one who gave them to Anita and Roger. What do y’all think?

Yet this Cruella doesn’t even touch fur in the entire movie. She doesn’t even hate dogs, although the other Cruellas all do. Also it’s a little hart to believe that Cruella would go as a designer from the 70s punk style to high end fur fashion in a few years. She had to start somewhere. This is showing her young before she was absolutely fur hungry. In the movie she did mention they would make good coats. It would make sense for her to age and start dressing more mature hence the fur coats. She didn’t seem fond of the Dalmatians in the first place and she’s probably gonna use them to breed. Hopefully a 2nd movie would cover that.

I want a sequel and I want it to be about the Baroness framing Cruella for Dalmatian kidnapping and killing.

Cruella (2021) is the best live action Disney movie I’ve watched in a while. The concept of the movie is so original, fresh, and realistic to how society is in reality, I honestly prefer the Emma Stone version of Cruella rather than the og version. She fabulously devious. The costume designs really captured the true essence of Cruella. The
ending was also great as well because it’s not your average happily ever after ending Disney has always put in almost all their movies. It was a new beginning for one of the most infamous and iconic Disney villains. I also loved the mid-credit scene, because of the easter egg of how Pongo and Perdita met their respective owners. It’s a great movie that I will probably won’t mind watching again.

I thought the movie was fun. I like how it’s not the exact approach people expected. Like it could set up future movies to follow the original Disney classic tale. But it doesn’t really feel like it is going to. Just subtle nods to it but it’s really it’s own thing, it’s own retelling that isn’t exactly following the same story. And I’m sorta into that. I’ve seen both prior the animated and the live action movie and know those stories. I don’t need it to be told again. So honestly. I don’t mind if she not entirely set up to hate Dalmatians consider she now owns 3? And that pongo and perdita are apparently siblings so puppies might not be in the future. Or if they are. Well. Bless they aren’t ill from in breeding. To be fair it’s not like Roger and Anita know that Cruella both game them their dogs if they end up together in the future. I’m like entirely invested in Cruella fashion journey at this point. But I do say they did at least set up the possibility of her going more mad and turning out to be more like the Baroness and therefore she may become more cruel to dogs in the future and then target Dalmatians for the role they played in her past? She might feel entitled to the puppies because she gave Roger and Anita the parents. Still not sure what she would do with puppy fur, surly she wait for them to grow up so she’d have more fur. I guess her crazy brain that why she stole so many if she plans to uses the smaller furs of puppies.

The original Cruella never hated dogs, that would indicate she had any feelings for animals. She was obsessed with fur coats and wanted one made from Dalmatian fur. As for this movie, I loved it. If you ignore some details about Anita, it works perfectly fine as a prequel to the 90s live action movie. My only complaint is the mid credits scene. I'm fine with her giving a puppy to Anita as they are life long friends, but she barely interacted with Rodger, so giving him a puppy makes no sense.
