I owned several of the older ones. Bandai sold these in the US in the early 80s. I loved them but they were expensive and most kids had no idea what they were. You could always find a couple lurking in the backs of mom and pop toy stores. After a few years, you could usually find them on sale for huge discounts. This beings back memories
It's interesting just how much Sentai Robo designs evolved once Daizyujin appeared, going from the boxy aesthetic of previous Robos to more dynamically shaped designs.
It’s really interesting to see these evolution videos that show the entirety of the history of tokusatsu merchandise. Seeing not only the designs change based on tastes at the time, but also the evolution of screen accuracy, the different gimmicks (like how a lot of earlier mecha had “rocket arms” while the newer ones have a lot of electronics in them), and seeing the different ways the vehicles combine into the full mecha form. A great video as always DX Tokusatsu!
Man even though the dinosaur trope is overused nowadays it must have been a HUGE refreshing change of pace seeing Daizyujin for the first time after all the jet and car mechas.
Excellent video, though I have some quibbles 1. 8:47- Flash King: Not really an issue but I’m wondering if you leave the jet cockpits on the shoulders, it wouldn’t hinder the combination 2. 13:32- Five Robo: He forgot to show off the combined vehicle mode 3. 14:31- Jet Icarus: Much like Five Robo, he didn’t show off the combined jet mode 4. 20:07- Ninja Megazord: Why wasn’t that covered, it was first before the Shogun Megazord 5. 27:05- Time Force Megazord: Much like Jet Icarus, didn’t show the combined jet mode, and didn’t show off Blue Mode 6. 33:08- Titan Megazord: Didn’t show off the combined dragon mode 7. 34:57- Drivemax Megazord: Much like Five Robo, didn’t show off the combined vehicle mode 8. 47:34- Ninja Steel Megazord: Much like Titan Megazord, didn’t show off the combined dragon mode 9. 49:24- Cosmic Fury Megazord: Didn’t show the Scramble City style where you can swap the limbs around 10. I asked that same question about the series that gave us the Ninja and ShogunZords from MMPR Season 3 and in the Japanese series it was the ShogunZords that came first and that series was called Super Sentai Kakuranger.
You know I find it hard to believe that if Stan Lee had been given the go ahead in trying to bring the Super Sentai series to America with Sun Vulcan we would've had the series that became the Power Rangers on t.v. nearly 2 decades early.
You know honestly as much as the older mecha are far more interesting in terms of combining i do have to say the recent mecha like kyuranger and lupinranger and patranger are actually pretty awesome ill even say ninniger as weird and out of place as they were lol but im loving the kyuranger and lupin/patranger mecha Nd all the different combinations u can do , and side note call me crazy but i love cool kaiser vsx hes soooo weird looking but i love it
When I look at Turbo Robo I can see a lot of inspiration for the Turbo Megazord with a truck shaped zord forming the Megazord's main body and a red sports car themed zord splitting in half to form the Megazords head like the Mountain Blaster and Red Lightning Turbozords.
What the heck is this thing that came after the Beast Morphix Megazord a car that turns into a Megazord just what the heck was that thing and what series did it belong to.
I found they made snap together models of some of the Megazords especially the Astro Megazord The Delta Megazord the Shogun Megazord which I have they even have one on the Ninja Megazord with the Ninja Falconzord but that is all they have it sure would be neat if they did it with all the Megazords including all the Mechas from Super Sentai from 1975 to the present.
You know it's funny that with Bio Robo the Red and Pink Rangers are in the main cockpit while the others sit in the secondary cockpit now that is a strange setup.
Funny story: while watching this video, I started humming the themes for some of the teams for the later mecha. Any I didn’t know the themes for, I just did the PR equivalent, except ToQger, where I just hummed the theme for Thomas the tank engine.
You've got to give credit to the engineers of the past. Flash King and Great Five have on of the best transformations. Now it's all about the gimmicks and simple link up of main mech - torso, and four other being limbs.
I would classify the Shurikenjin in to the same category as Gosei Great and Daibouken. They try to do something different, but by themselved they are no that fun to combine. And GoBuster-Oh, it is a fantastic idea executed poorly. The legs just look horrible, as if he was walking on stilts.

These models sound like they're newer, with the plastic creaking the way it is. You can also see how cheap the models get as they get more complicated to put together, like how there's no chrome or reflective coating on the swords anymore.
this brings back memories. goggle V was my show when i was 6-7 years old in late 80s when it was available for indonesian viewers in beta tape. it brings back memories on how i couldnt afford this kind of toys. just play with them in my friends house. the go lion toys was awesome...
Earlier Sentai series were aimed to entire families, hence the designs are complex. Currently, the designs can vary depending on the tone of the Sentai. Some are goofy like the Go-Onger and ToQger, while the rest are cool like the Gokaiger and Kyuranger.

You know what was weird was the series that gave us the Thunderzords in the Japanese version they had a little kid as the White Ranger and pilot of the White Tigerzord I'm guessing that might be where they got the idea for the Blue Turbo Ranger in Power Rangers Turbo was also a preteen kid named Justin who took Rocky's place because Rocky hurt his back while training for a martial arts competition.

You know what was weird about the Japanese Sentai series that gave us Power Rangers Dino Charge is it looks like when they are about to morph the Rangers look like they're dancing and if you don't believe me watch the video on all the Super Sentai opening theme songs going from 1975 to 2021 and you'll see it for yourselves they actually look like they're dancing when they get ready to morph.

this brings back memories. goggle V was my show when i was 6-7 years old in late 80s when it was available for indonesian viewers in beta tape. it brings back memories on how i couldnt afford this kind of toys. just play with them in my friends house. the go lion toys was awesome...

Gotta love how as the years go by, the design becomes more ‘childish’. I guess that’s how they market to their audience
Earlier Sentai series were aimed to entire families, hence the designs are complex.
Currently, the designs can vary depending on the tone of the Sentai. Some are goofy like the Go-Onger and ToQger, while the rest are cool like the Gokaiger and Kyuranger.
Nakakamis naman yung mga ganyan ang dami noon sa kapit bahay namin nyan pinapadalhan palagi yung kalaro ko galing japan mga magulang nya tapos ninanakaw ko lang sa kanila noon bata pa ako..favorite ko dyan Power Ranger
You know what was weird was the series that gave us the Thunderzords in the Japanese version they had a little kid as the White Ranger and pilot of the White Tigerzord I'm guessing that might be where they got the idea for the Blue Turbo Ranger in Power Rangers Turbo was also a preteen kid named Justin who took Rocky's place because Rocky hurt his back while training for a martial arts competition.

What ninja zords are you referring to? You mean kakure daishogun? That's a mid season mecha in kakuranger.

You know what was weird about the Japanese Sentai series that gave us Power Rangers Dino Charge is it looks like when they are about to morph the Rangers look like they're dancing and if you don't believe me watch the video on all the Super Sentai opening theme songs going from 1975 to 2021 and you'll see it for yourselves they actually look like they're dancing when they get ready to morph.
I think you should use a better mic, this video has a great potential to be a ASMR.
