Aw that's beautiful. This song forever reminds me of my mom who was in the hospital around the time this song was on the charts, so I can't ever hear it without thinking back to that time I was 11 and almost lost her. She survived a while longer (lost her in 2018) but this song just brings me back to that scary time. I miss her but am thankful I had more time. ❤

“Truly” (1982) was Lionel Richie’s first solo single after leaving the Commodores. That song remained in his sweet spot of devotional ballads, rising to the top : the tune hit #1 on the Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.
After 18 nominations (mostly with the Commodores), Mr Richie finally won his first Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male in 1983. He almost skipped the ceremony though, as he had been nominated each of the previous five years, only to come up empty handed each time.
