I wish this video was around when I first started tying. I have a tying room with thousands of dollars in materials (don't tell my wife how much I spent lol). The plus side is I can basically tie what ever I want. The crazy part of the materials is that there is alway something new coming out to make a pattern "better". To all the new people to tying welcome and don't give up, it's so satisfying to catch fish on flies you've tied.
I tied commercially for some local sporting goods stores back in the 90’s and I’ve found this series to be VERY helpful for beginners and old hands alike! You’re NEVER too old to learn! Keep up the good work!
Great series. I would add that large amount of materials/supplies can be found cheap on Facebook or Craigslist. People are always trying to get rid of large collections of fishing gear and whatnot that either they dont need anymore or it was a family member's who's no longer in the picture. Sure, you might get some stuff you dont really need like another vise or bobbin but usually the materials are useful. My father-in-law passed and left behind prob $1K worth of materials that I now have. If I was a fly fisherman we would prob have thrown it all away or given it to someone for free.
Alex. I’m in Australia and love all your videos. Can I ask the fly I have issues tying the Parachute Adams and Royal Wulff and they are the ones that seem to get the trout. Do you have videos on these ? I make many different nymphs and happy that they catch fish. Thanks again and look forward to seeing more. Can I ask do you or will you do any videos on Euro Nymphing ? Mike
Try to keep them in an air tight plastic bag. If there are any moths, throw them out or keep them away from your other feathers cause they can lay eggs and mess with those ones too.
I mean… we gave our two cents and best advice (buy the materials and tie one pattern at a time). Then talked about the kits. 🤷🏽♂️ A full length save money video is launching on Sunday! We go into way more details.
@@venturesflyco The strategy is literally just a barely veiled lead in for your product lol. And the strat technically doesn't really save you money, it just spreads it out over time. I look forward to the video on Sunday though! I do like your flies, caught a couple big ones on them in the recent past, for that I am thankful.
You can definitely cut corners lol, as a tail for nymphs I've used the bristles off of a cheap make-up from dollar tree. I've used my dogs hair before, and that's the beauty of tying flies.

This is great info...thanks for taking the time to teach us!
😎🤙🏽
Great learning series! Thanks for doing these!
Exited for the next one
It’s gonna be a good one! Thanks JP!
I completely agree with the advise of tying one pattern that you use often then move on to another.
Glad to know we’re not just making stuff up. 😂 Thanks for the comment Joseph.
@@venturesflyco that’s how I did it, when starting. Pheasant tail nymph was my first
😎🤙🏽 classic!
Great info Alex. Thanks.

This , Fly Tying is the most insane hobby there ever was !
Yup! You can really go down the rabbit hole on stuff. Haha.

Question on Pheasants, I hunt pheasants, what is your opinion on hackle that can be used from Pheasants?
Hackle… not sure. But tail feathers are great for tying up nymphs. 👍🏽
I'm sorry that your name is Alex
Alexander was a great man whome I knew.
Alex you are great just as my old friend
Thank you your the best.
how do you protect your expensive cape feathers against moths etc. ?
Try to keep them in an air tight plastic bag. If there are any moths, throw them out or keep them away from your other feathers cause they can lay eggs and mess with those ones too.
When I was a kid, my hobbies were building models and going fishing....40 years and nothing has changed.
Haha stoked to hear it! 😎🤙🏽
Lmao was waiting for the strategy to save money and it's just an ad for their kits ☹️

@@drew9122 that's a great idea with the make-up bristles. Probably would work great as mayfly tails too. Thanks for the tip
Thanks.
Veryj nice 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

send me the kit for beginners
😂😂😂😂
Sorry in advance; but advise is how you spell the verb; advice is how you spell the noun. 😎
Good catch. Thanks for the comment. 😎🤙🏽
