May I point out that I HATE the „your first time is definitely going to suck“ trope?! Because, no, it isn’t!
It’s always portrayed as this cute, romantic moment, when the (obviously experienced) guy warns the girl (oftentimes while they’re about to have sex) that this will hurt a lot, even though she is perfectly calm and relaxed and enjoying herself and he isn’t ramming into her like some murderous lunatic??
Of course, your first time might be less enjoyable than expected, especially when you’re both inexperienced or really nervous beforehand and it’s important to know what might happen - but this „you must fear your first time, because someone will pierce your skin open and you will bleed a fuckton“ is just plain wrong and it pisses me off to no end. I was nervous as fuck because I knew all the stories and prepared myself mentally, only to be surprised to find out that it doesn’t have to be that way and it can be good for both partners without hurting in between.

Here in Brazil, we had a miniseries based on Les liaisons dangereuses in 2016 on network TV, called "Ligações Perigosas," set in 1920s Rio de Janeiro. Personally I thought it was very good, but it generated polemic for a scene that was supposed to be about seduction, but was made as abuse. In 2018, there was a Korean version, called Tempted, which I am almost done with, I also thought it was good, and much lighter than the other versions I saw.

Maybe because is for Honore Balzac, one of the most famous french writers, that revolutionise the conventions of his time, like Dangerous Liaison, his books were full of drama, of romances that always ended in misery or couples that cheated each other, that very controversial were there was no divorce in marriage, and the people have this entrench idea that husband and wife should be faithful to each other, tragically, Balzac never find actually love in his life, he die before he could marry and have children, his mother was strict and despised his book, Gerard Depardieu did a miniseries about him, but that was before I realise that Depardieu was a horrible person.

@@furonguy42 Just because it's consensual, it does not make it not promiscuous. And I'm all for people being free. Just don't call it love or get it anywhere near the LGBT conversation. We don't need that stigma.

@@kaichen04 I don’t think there’s any space to condemn promiscuity in queer conversations. Some people have sex. Some people have a lot of sex. Some have none. It’s none of our business and people should be able to talk about their experiences/lives without being shamed for it.

@@kaichen04 That is the most hypocritical thing I have ever heard. As a gay person myself, polyamory is absolutely just as frowned upon and just as deserving to be in the community. Homosexuality was viewed as promiscuous not that long ago. Some people still view it as that way. That's the entire point of the LGBTQ+ community; to show it isn't. Polyamory can be just as innocent, some people just love more than one person. What's wrong with that?

Okay, this is so disappointing because French Netflix has brought me some of my favorite tv shows and movies of all time like Plan Cœur, Family Business and Je ne suis pas un homme facile. I constantly recommend Plan Cœur to my friends, even those who don’t speak French, because it’s like a long form romcom and I just love love love it.

Liaisons is a feminine noun so you have to say 'dangeureuses' and pronouncing the SE at the end. The way you said it sounded like the masculine form 'dangereux'

Cruel Intentions was the movie that taught me that it was OK to enjoy trash. Also, what Cruel Intentions got, that this movie doesn't seem to, is that you have to LIKE everyone involved. Sure, it might be a hate-like in the case of Sebastain and Kathryn (which also goes for Freddie Prinze Jr's character in She's All That) but you still like them. You like watching them and you like hating what they're doing. Without that, these stories are just not worth making.
