    I like to put lvl 8s against eachother to see what characters are potentially capable of doing. I thought about building a tier list out of best of 10s.

    I do this in actual ranked play... I've played online competitive games since Quake 2 arena. Most games were online only. Improving meant learning, meant losing when trying to get better and learning new aspects.
    I bring that into fighting games. I don't care as much about the win - they'll come eventually anyway.
    I usually go into ranked thinking I want to practice or improve just a few things. Usually pick no more than 2-3 things to worry about... when I become solid in one, I'll replace it with something new.
    Most people go into ranked with sweaty palms, nervous as if anyone cares. Reality check: no one cares. There's nothing to mess up.

      The actual advice here. Saves me a post hahaha. It's about the journey and self-improvement. People need to develop some self-discipline instead of trying to figure out crutches like this. If you don't have that discipline or the right mindset you won't progress far anyway.

    Yeah I've already been doing this, for combos and reaction practice I really don't understand why people say it's not useful to play vs CPU because humans don't play like CPU's.
    Sure, but playing VS CPU is like light sparring in martial arts. It's completely different to try to land a move you just learned when your training partner isn't resisting vs light sparring where he won't just let you do it, but isn't resisting everything you do like his life depends on it like in an actual competition. CPU is great as a light sparring partner that helps you build muscle memory and confidence in applying what you just learned vs a moving target.

    • @nugieboy
      @nugieboy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure to spread the good word of destroying the CPU, hahaha yeah that’s a great metaphor too! I don’t do martial arts so I thought of it as weightlifting but I really like that as well, wish I included it! Thanks for the insight

    I've been doing this to practice Chun Li's LP, MP, crouching MP string. It's an incredible string but the timing is kind of tough.
    I've actually been on a hiatus from ranked to focus on my bad habits and combo confirms in general.

      He has a right to his OPINION..but it doesn't make him RIGHT. IT simply make it HIS OPINION. And here's why...
      TRAIN LIKE A PRO...FOR WHAT?
      what's the incentive to be a pro player, high online ranked GOD, or person who wins tournaments? I'm not asking these questions because I really truly need answers...I'm asking these questions because I've been all of these things on multiple fighting games and OUTSIDE OF TEMPORARY EUPHORIA in the moment...there is no INCENTIVE to be a try hard or sweaty player. Ok so what..u can beat the CPU level 8....ok so what u can beat a master rank player...ok so what u won a tournament....
      In other words...u can do everything said in this video...and the FGC is gonna respond to you with.... "SO WHAT"..... type dismissive energy.
      So I say to everyone just have fun....because ultimately NO ONE CARES if u a scrub or a GOD...
      NO ONE CARES..the fgc is BIASED ..and if you're name isn't DAIGO, TOKIDO, PUNK SONIC FOX OR any other famous name...BEATING LEVEL 8 CPU and training for meaningless hours will do nothing for you. This is not SCRUB TALK..this is not ME COMING FOR HIM for his video this is me giving the actual truth of what it feels like to be all of the things you think practice mode will help you become. Take it from someone whose been there...ITS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME. TURN your game on to have fun...not to be the best in the world...ITS NEVER GONNA HAPPEN no matter how many hours u spend fighting level 8 CPU

    • @nugieboy
      @nugieboy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@OpenMynd82 I already know that people love fighting games in different ways and I want everyone to engage with the FGC in whichever way they love. My content is geared towards people who DO want to feel a sense of progression and improvement because when I started out I had a ton of fun but I felt frustrated at plateaus and stagnating, as I do in the gym or other facets of my life. It naturally feels good to progress. We all can’t be the best, but I think I should do my best(((if you want to do so!))) because that’s what feels good for me and I think other people would find that rewarding too.
      Thanks for taking the time to watch my video!

    • @OpenMynd82
      @OpenMynd82 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @nugieboy yeah I know...I gathered that from listening..but what I'm trying to do is tell people the truth. We as human need A REASON to do things. And the ONLINE FAME HYPE should not be a reason to play a video game. It's a false sense of accomplishment...it makes us all delusional and we forget to HAVE FUN. Why is the FGC SO TOXIC? Because everyone wants to be the best is the world. No one wants to have fun...somewhere during those practice mode hours...we lose sight of FUN and focus too much on being THE ABSOLUTE BEST..or we fearing losing so bad that we rage quit or get super frustrated for losing...and all of these emotions STEM FROM BEING A TRY HARD..SWEATY player...Mental Health is important... stop caring so much about "SO CALLED IMPROVING" and just be honest...they patch these games too much to waste hours in practice mode under ONE BUILD of the game to then see NERFS OR BUFFS happen and all that practice down the drain because the meta has changed...none of this is my opinion all of this is FACT. I'm not arguing..I'm stating actualities...that many of us will INEVITABLY experience when it's all said and done...

      @@OpenMynd82 I just think those two things are not mutually exclusive I have fun playing and experimenting but most of us have limited time in a day so I just want to share what I find effective, because at the end of the day you can’t control how you feel, but you can find mechanisms to navigate those frustrations. I certainly want to share ideas on this topic, this is kind of one tbh if you get frustrated in ranked. I honestly blame the LP system for this, seeing a number go up and down like that can be mentally taxing over a session
      It’s hard because this is inherently a competitive genre with results so it’s hard to not feel frustrated if you don’t like the results, but enjoying the process and seeing fruits of my labor is personally my reason for playing. I can see how this was sparked from the original comment, but I by no means want to convey elitism and that everyone needs to do this. I wish I could convey this is not about those extrinsic results somehow but intrinsic motivations like hitting AAs, combos, punishing moves and DIs etc
      For example if you don’t need to do this and can practice in a match against real people, obviously you don’t have to follow this, but I’ve seen so many people who want to hit their combo in a match(the one they practiced bc it’s hard and it looks cool, and landing it gives them joy)… but they forget how to do it when the time comes because there’s too much going on. I’m basically giving an avenue feeling that skill progression
      everyone should play the way they want to play yes, but I just wanted to share this perspective I hadn’t considered and yes first and foremost these games should be fun, but I don’t think that has to go at the expense of wanting to get better at them, the more you get better at them, the more you can do which equals more fun IMO

  • @Amaling

    I'm new to fighting games but have been doing this instinctively, but I set it to an infinite round in training mode instead. One thing to note is that each character has a 'default' playstyle that you can target to practice certain things. For example, Blanka grabs you quite a bit and jumps a bit, so he's good to practice your spacing/checks/techs. Cammy jumps A LOT and is always in your face so she's good to practice your anti airs and defense/footsies etc.

    I say this all the time online is not real life. A lot of setups these players do online don't work off. The cpu on lvl 7 humbles ya ass quick. I find myself getting punishes online for things i know for a fact are safe off line. Cpu is good practice to sharpen technique.

      Losing is a key part in getting better overall. You just gotta try and figure out why you lost and how to improve on your weak spots and learn from your loss. It's part of what makes fighting games so intimidating for new players, but it's all about your drive and determination. I've been working on improving for over a decade now and I'm proud of how far I've come, but I know I've still got years and years left to go to reach my full potential. Its kinda like what Kennedy said about going to the moon, We need to go not because it's easy but because it is hard.

    Let me know what you practiced using this method!

    • @lamMeTV
      @lamMeTV ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have been using this method since the demo cause I saw pros use training mode so why not use training mode+? A core part is also to hone your patience and discipline. To no go for the easy win cheeses (214 LK Command grab loop) and focus on what you need to work on. Its amazing for habit breaking when you catch yourself "No. No. No! That was wrong. Dont blindly spam MK 236KK ACTUALLY hit confirm."
      As Manon: I practice the drag in combos. Easy in training mode but I always fumble the normal cancels in a real match so to CPU I go! I usually use arcade mode cause that automagically shuffles the match ups and has a built in warm up phase (progression from easy to impossible CPUs).
      Tho I am only gold so obviously I dont play at level 7 CPU. 4/5 is where the best practice happens.

    • @nugieboy
      @nugieboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lamMeTV yeah I totally agree, the next step is to do the stuff you’re trying in ranked. But for me playing the CPU is a nice in between and yeah definitely use whatever CPU suits you and you’ll be able to work your way up! I’m definitely in the manon boat where it’s easy to just go for command grab so I feel u there 😔
