Maybe contact Justin Frankel the creator of Reaper and share your thoughts with him on the topic. He’s got a website askjf.com and is always willing to answer questions and make fixes to Reaper in the next update, continuously working on improving it. Plus he’s a performing artist himself and I’m sure he’d be interested in improving the behaviour of live loops.
I’m using this method to do arranged live looping myself with pooled midi. Just loop from the off beat to the next off beat. The loop point doesn’t have to be on the one.
I'm so glad someone is using it like this! My issue is I want to be able to improvise. In Live I don't ever have to think about arbitrary barriers, and I love that, but I would prefer a more linear Reaper-like approach once a clip is recorded.
DjangoZa You’re definitely right about that. It’s not good for seamless jamming. But for arranging a planned out looping performance, it’s a great. Very intuitive workflow.
Have you tried to use mobius inside reaper for live looping? I am just getting this setup and it seems to work perfectly. It also allows for more channels and you can record inside reaper with it once you get it setup correctly. I am no expert here tho. Good luck
03:15 this trick resembles the way ableton clips share data across the timeline. in arrangement mode you can drag a clip out into a loop make changes to all connected clips with one change
Yeah! I noticed that but couldn't figure out a way to overdub into an existing clip in Live. It makes a new clip even with MIDI overdub enabled. Their way makes sense though - it's non-destructive. I'm attempting a pretty niche workflow.

I'm using Mobius in Reaper as well. I'm still figuring some things out, but it's incredible so far. I'd love to see your setup Peter!

The term for when chords don't start on the beat is a 'pickup measure'
Thanks! Been looking for that term.
Or, anticipation or syncopation 😉
