What’s the first and last thing you see on any car? Paint is highly critical to how any car looks and how you emotionally connect with the car, you see it outside the car you see it inside the car. It’s also one of the most critical components on any car. It’s also as we’ve seen one of the most creative and technically advanced components on the car. Yet it so easy to take for granted.

hehe :D i work as a painter, and its not that hard to do. just steady speed and distance from the detail. and most important is that you follow the movement past the detail and not turn when on it. or you will get extra thickness on the edges. Brilliant Green colour on MR08JWW. Congratulations on Q project. As the car was built in Wales, I should say LLONGYFARCHIADAU ! The only road to test this superb SUV is on the brilliant A4069 between Brynaman and Llangadog where, coincidentally, I learned to drive over 50 years ago. However, take care, as many manufacturers, magazines and TV programmes use this particular stretch of tarmac !! Pob Hwyl.
Im a fan of the classic small batch auto like Aston. The perfection is in the blemish or no two will be the same. But that being said. the highest quality components will ast and comfort.
Damn brother, I love to see we have mutual taste in paint color! So sick of whites and silvers...As far as I'm concerned, give me a dark metallic green that almost looks black at certain angles and I'm sold!
The depth gauge is measuring from the surface through to the metal. The difference in numbers is sort of meaningless as it could be due to clearcoat thickness variations.
Is the paint any good? Uh...yes James. It's good. It's very, very good. BTW, how does one become a "paint ninja?" Do you have to go to college for that? 😂 As usual, good stuff today James.
So Aston paint not perfect from plant at this price point? But after detailer works on it, perfect? Can Aston not tell you paint thickness as they should know from paint development and testing. But aftermarket gauge better info? Little bit gauge at that.
I’m always amazed that companies like Aston Martin, my personal favourite car brand invest so much money, time and effort into producing the level of quality in their products. However, I’m also equally dumbfounded by the lack of consistency they provide when it comes to humans spraying their cars. There should never be any reason why the spray gun is further away or, closer to any vehicle when sprayed by different humans. What’s the point in using aides to check for panel gaps etc... then abandon any aides when it comes to paint quality and the consistent thickness of the layers of paint and clear coat and rely on experience/skill alone? We have had the knowledge to adapt and ensure that the distance of doing tasks such as this are very consistent since the world war. 😬😖😳.

Manufacturers can only go so far they can't spend the time and attention to detail the paint the way specialist shop like nvn London can. It would slow down the production line significantly. they dont have the knowledge experience or facility to do this. manufactures need to get cars out the door and can't go to this level hence why companies like nvn exist. the paint is a whole process in its itself and if manufacturers tired to do this the extra cost of the car would be outrageous as time on a production line is expensive time. Let's be honest.. I've worked at Sonax detailing for about 10 years.. NOBODY needs to measure the depth on paint on a new car to polish it!! It's a gimmick and it's totally irrelevant to measure it on a new car!! You can polish that clearcoat 20 times the next 10 years with pretty abrasive compound without going through if you have just a little bit of brain and knows how to polish a car! Stop that crap and get to work! Polish the car and stop all that "Expert" talk. Enough said.
WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT?? THE WHOLE VEHICLE IS DISGUSTING! ESPECIALLY THE COLOUR SCHEME AND THE REDICULOUS PAINT!! THE BRONZE WHEELS HELP POP IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL. I WOULD BUY THE JWW-DBX 'AS-IS' .. AS IN ZERO CHANGES!! YOU MADE IT PERFECT! 'SORRY ASTON MARTIN... HE DID IT BETTER'
