    My first bike was a V-star 650. Great bike and very comfortable for long rides. Im 6'1, 250 lbs and it did just fine.

    I'm 5'6" and I ride my 650 Vstar classic Silverado. I am a happy dude, with what my wheels offer me. People have often said, that they think it is an 1100/ 1300cc beast. The 650cc was my personal choice due to the sensible amount of power the bike puts out. It is very comfortable and responsive. It even has self-cancelling signals, a silverado windshield; the right amount of chrome and generous storage saddlebags. It sounds great, with the stock exhaust pipes. A very dependable machine, for my money.

      I love my 2005 650 Silverado. With regular oil changes, I've never had a mechanical failure. It's the most reliable bike I've ever owned. It has plenty of power for normal highway driving and has enough top end for interstates. It's very stable on the straights and very nimble on the twisties. It can even keep up with the 1k+cc Harleys.

      If you are talking about the v star 650....they aren't properly broken-in until ~25,000 miles. 37,000 miles is nothing. They do have a few minor issues...you must lube/grease the final-drive spline gear at every rear tire change, check and lube the final-drive/driveshaft connecting sprocket/gear at every other rear tire change and keep an eye on the notorious 'kickstand oil leak' which is an easy fix should it ever happen (seriously, it's 3 screws and a ~$20 o-ring/neutral-switch-cover replacement every ~25,000-50,000 miles or so). Something I love about the v star 650's, they have ceramic composite cylinder sleeves and the engines are rock-solid. They never overheat, even during long periods of stop-and-go traffic (despite being air-cooled). They are super reliable during rides. The aforementioned issues will never leave you stranded on a ride. It's just some things to keep an eye out for during regular maintenance.

    I've had a 2008, fully dressed, chrome to the max, Canadian Special since it came out. It was my first bike. Took my test on it it and passed with flying colours. Everything you said is true, this is a great bike. I can go up steep hills in top gear with my wife , bags and rear luggage rack full. The only down side is it gets buzzy at 60 mph and above, needs a 6th gear. This is the best first bike to buy.

    I have to thank you. I've watched a lot of your videos and more than one of your 650 vids like the Vulcan and a couple of V Star ones I believe. I ended up after an upset with a 1980 CB900 that just does not want me to ride it (38yr old bike), with a 209 Vstar 650 custom. This was directly due to your vids and two experienced friends that suggested I look at one. Very happy. It's my first bike, I've actually ridden besides the 250's in the CHP course. Lots of my fears were thrown out the window once I became commuted and drove it home a good 34 miles on the city streets up to my house in Los Angeles. My big Harley riding buddies like it as well. Thank you.
    PS: If I was not in the west coast I'd have contacted you guys about one but I got a sweet deal in a private sale. Again. Thank you. Grateful for TH-cam.

    Sean I owned a 2009 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic in silver. Your right it is a great bike. I had to sell mine because I wrecked my Honda Shadow Aero VT750C and had a serious injury. My wife made me promise to buy a car. I sold the Yamaha to help Pay off the wrecked Honda so I could then purchase a 2014 new Jeep Wrangler Sport.
    I traded that Jeep for a 2015 Harley-Davidson FLHP Road King Police last August 2015. I wish I had my Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic now. It had floor boards, heel and toe shifter, shaft drive and a nice wide handlebar. I liked every thing about her. The FLHP has a much more comfortable seat I will say, no contest.
    My Honda was not damaged that bad, it got some dents in the gas tank and cracked the plastic rear fender and lost a mirror and cracked the right rear blinker. I put it back on the road with a new battery, new mirror and blinker and ignore the dents in the gas tank and she's fine. No one has ever said a bad word about how she looks. I have 3200 miles on her. I ride the Road King Police 99% of the time.
    A new Honda gas tank ready to be installed is $800 and a new Honda rear fender already painted red is $360. Those two items an she is almost a new bike. I'm interested in trading for your V-Star. Let me know. Why am I interested? I loved the V-Star 650 Classic a lot!

      the other guy was thinking "Look at that guy riding that cruiser bike with a helmet and jacket and gloves...
      and gym shorts and sneakers! LOL!
      BTW, the bike feels underpowered to you because you were lugging it all the time.
      The rev limiter on this bike hits at:
      1st = 59 km/h = 37MPH
      2nd = 84 km/h = 53MPH
      3rd = 110 km/h = 69MPH
      4th = 137 km/h = 86MPH
      5th = 165 km/h = 103MPH
      you never came close to hitting the peak HP in the power band of the engine

    I ride a vstar 650 and i agree they are big for a 650. I have had many people tell me there's no way it a 650 and that I'm crazy. It might be a yamaha thing but the only draw back to that bike is finding 1st gear if you roll backwards at all.

    Some nice roads there for riding mate - I'm coming back to the bike as a 45yr old 6ft adult male, did a bit of dirt bike when in my teens but atttitude is to start again as a beginner. I'm not interested in Sports Bikes and max speed, I want to ride safe and cruise on a Bobber and was looking hard at the Yamaha 650 as my first ride. Some have suggested to start with the 250 but my concern is wanting something to grow into ... I don't want too much power and it is right to start small and build experience. I haven't sat on a 650 yet but I hope I'm on the right track for body size and power for my entry level requirements. Thanks for the vid!

    Picked up a 99 today. 20k miles original owner ex military. I asked why are you selling he said well I have this road master, I said well that would probably do it 🤣 I'm 6' 290 pounds but it should be good for around town and short highway hops. It's the green and white and I'm a Jets fan so the color sold me. $1100 bucks and I see some selling for more so when I'm done with it I'll make a profit.

    I'm 17, 6' tall, and a complete beginner, (and I mean never even ridden before), is this still a good choice? This bike looks and sounds great, and the size is a plus since it seems like some of the other good beginner bikes are supposedly a little small for 6 footers (i.e. the Honda Rebel).

      It takes around 25k miles just to break-in the engine on a V Star 650 due to the ceramic-composite cylinder sleeves. The engines in those 650 V Stars are rock-solid and built to last. The only real problem is the spline gear on the shaft drive. But so long as you have it re-greased with every rear tire change, it will be fine. I own a 2005 V Star 650 Silverado (bought new, 1st owner) and have never had a mechanical failure. Just keep the oil changed every 3k miles, with full synthetic, and change the oil in the rear differential every 10k miles, new spark plugs every 20k miles and a new air filter every 30k miles. To keep the single-barrel Mikuna carbs happy, add a couple ounces of Sea-Foam additive to the gas tank every other fill up.

    who needs a side mirror? Windshield are dumb?
    That kinda hurts your credibility. Stick to the sales technique of telling guys girls love the bike. And get a left mirror for it, instead of trying to say mirrors are not needed.

      Different strokes for different folks. Personally I want to feel the blast of the wind when I'm riding, but some people don't like it I guess.
