Can everyone just stop commenting negative things about these horses, especially if you haven't ridden saddleseat a day in your life. It's a completely different concept and style of riding than others
Ive ridden the hackney we had at our barn. It was sooo much fun lol. We were about to sell him i wanted to ride him before my friend sold him and she let me it was amazing. I ride saddlebreds however so it was a bit different, a lot smaller and faster haha.
@@lei2023 hi, I am the same person who commented that lol. Yes I do saddleseat, I’ve come a long way with it. I do Arabian costume and huntseat as well with my horse Draven. Saddleseat is definitely a really hard discipline, but at the same time it’s fun and I love doing it :)
The longer hooves make for added motion. IT IN NO WAY INTERFERES WITH A HORSES ABILITY TO FUNCTION. Weighted shoes are not the same thing as Big Licks. They are entirely different in the way they fit the horse and they do not hurt. They have extra leather padding for added comfort. Show horses ONLY WEAR THEIR SHOW SHOES DURING SHOW SEASON. It is not a year round thing. You put them on for the months going into the big shows and take them off when finished. Hackneys are bread in a way that will increase their natural motion and functionality. Years of selective breading has provided a pony with NATURAL MOTION. A trainer then goes in and refines this talent to create a beautiful athlete. The training of a Saddlebred, Morgan, Arabian, Hackney or any other saddleseat horse is different than that of a Tennessee Walker. This rider is in a Saddleseat saddle. It has a cutback, the cutback is to free the shoulders and allow for more motion up front. That is also why the rider sits further back on the horse, it frees up the front end to move uninhibited. Saddleseat horses and ponies have a NATURALLY HIGHER head carriage and thus, need a higher hand placement so as to be functional in assisting your horse. I understand that when faced with something new the first reaction is to think "this is not normal", but, maybe instead of badmouthing a sport you yourself really are not knowledgeable about you should talk to someone who is. Perhaps take a lesson in saddleseat riding. I assure you you will be better for it. As horse lovers it is our job to become informed about things we don't understand so that we can better the industry instead of tearing down an entire discipline because it's not our forte. Sincerely, Anyone Who Has Ever Loved A Saddle Seat Horse.
For people saying this doesn't look natural: News flash every thing we do with horses in regards to riding is unnatural! You think wild horses strap tack on for shits and giggles?
+Adelaide McAlister so riding is natural? Also this is all your opinion. You have no facts to prove that riding is natural and saddleseat looks stupid. It's all in your head. I think western pleasure looks stupid but is that a fact? No. Get some facts and then come back to this page. But good luck finding them. "B.S." is not an acceptable intelligent response. Riding isn't natural unless you can find saddles and bridles in the wild.
The first riders of the world did not use a saddle or bridles. The ones who started to found the materials in the wild and made them into a bridle and saddle. I agree with you, riding is not natural for the horses. However horses have been ridden for centuries and have adapted to us very well whether for food, fighting/hunting, or entertainment. However, you should not judge riders and whatever discipline they are in because for them it means a lot unless you of course can back up why they look stupid and have tried the discipline for yourself also.
The weight will make them lift their feet higher and it shapes them up. That's the reason why these horses throw their legs so much. It's not natural and it leads to anatomical health problems. But well, it's 'pretty' so there you are... -.-
Reitweise hin oder her die Anatomie des Pferdes bleibt die selbe, und so hinter der Bewegung in den Lendenwirbeln zu hängen ist nun mal nicht gesund für den Pferderücken .
Don't get me wrong, I like that breed of horses and especially this one, it looks cute. But the hooves... they look like it would HAVE to hurt with every step >.> They look very different to hooves I've seen, also hooves of Hackneys.
please dont take this the wrong way but every video i seem to watch of americans riding 'english' is as far from english riding as you can get. i am from england and have never once seen a rider over here sit on the horses kidneys, nor ride with the feet and knees 2 foot in front of there hips and shoulders.please somebody explain to me where this 'not so english' style has appeared from as im at my wits end!!!
It's so sad to see Hackeny ponies, who are a British breed with stunning natural gaits, suddenly be turned and trained like mini Tennessee Walkers and Saddlebreds, and develop these Big Lick style gaits. Hackeny's never moved like this, they were closer to the Welsh Cob Trots. This is pure selfishness, changing something that WASN'T gaited into moving like a gaited horse, because it's 'pretty'. Hackeny ponies and horses are NOT gaited! Stop treating them as such!
actually saddleseat is a form of english riding divided into three categories based on the amount of front end action (in pleasure classes) which are country pleasure, English/show pleasure and park.
Of course it is English, just not hunt-seat or Dressage. Note English saddle and bridle. Just because you don't care for it doesn't make it anything other than English.
Being gaited is one thing - another is the SICKENING state of these horses' hooves! This is absolutely ridiculous. As a gaited rider myself, I can testify that making a horse walk on stilts does NOT help create a better gait. I agree wholeheartedly on the Big Lick thing though. Bloody ridiculous. And the position of the rider .... jesus, it's not an armchair, it's a horse!
Can you imagine? The Brits have a style, the French have a style, the Germans have a style, and we have this. No wonder we did so poorly in the last olypmics...
@leiat8, what you've seen, I think, is people who happen to be Americans riding incorrectly! I've seen the travesty of a saddle seat in the show rings of gaited breeds. It stinks.
Emma Liu most saddleseat riders don’t wear helmets. they are usually 16 and older. no young child does not wear one. we didn’t ride for more than 15 mins
I'm sorry, but this is a horrible example of riding (I'm a USPC A and USDF 3rd level Dressage rider). I hope it's her first lesson because this is shameful. Put your leg under your body for better balance so you can get out of the horse's face. Sit back and relax!
I don't agree with big licks either!! Lazy training. Find and breed horses/ponies for this movement instead of breaking them down with weighted shoes and chains from the time their yearlings. The ability is out there, infact I just worked a hackney cross pony today who sets right out even pretty then this mare. And all natural in doing it!
looks ridiculous? whats ridiculous is how you probably jump your scruffy little horse over PVC pipes and milk crates and think your ready for the Olympics
there's a big difference between her not being ready for it and YOU not being ready for it Kids way younger than she is do this not only on ponies but large Saddlebreds at shows. get used to it.

Yeah, it's hilarious to watch and silly and just stupid..
Ive ridden the hackney we had at our barn. It was sooo much fun lol. We were about to sell him i wanted to ride him before my friend sold him and she let me it was amazing. I ride saddlebreds however so it was a bit different, a lot smaller and faster haha.
Soon I’m going to be doing saddle seat and I CANT WAIT
Are you doing saddle seat now?

@@raven7146 that’s so awesome!
what a gorgeous horse! You dont see them much under the saddle
The breed is famous for stepping high. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this gorgeous breed.
Sophia Sapphireberg I agree! I love these kind of horses, and I am an equestrian myself!
It's an American variant of English riding called saddle seat. It usually done to show off a gaited horses' movement.
I love how this pony walks, adorable!

Very interesting I have never seen a hackney pony being ridden before. I have always seen them hitched to a viceroy in the show ring.
For people saying this doesn't look natural: News flash every thing we do with horses in regards to riding is unnatural! You think wild horses strap tack on for shits and giggles?
B.S.

Good point. Well, they can high-step, but I don't think quite as high. But this is humane compared to what they do to Tennessee walking horses.
@msamericanpatriot Well a hackney is like a smaller version of a standardbred. Standardbreds, saddlebreds and hackneys are very closely relate.
The weight will make them lift their feet higher and it shapes them up. That's the reason why these horses throw their legs so much. It's not natural and it leads to anatomical health problems. But well, it's 'pretty' so there you are... -.-
For this breed it is natural. They even do this when they are newborn foals.
I’m getting a hackney pony but one thing i don’t like is how height they step but I know they were bred to step high
I mean, that's literally the whole point of the breed. If you don't like the big gait, why not get something with a flatter one, like a Welsh?
Have you ever watched a saddle seat masters class?
Reitweise hin oder her die Anatomie des Pferdes bleibt die selbe, und so hinter der Bewegung in den Lendenwirbeln zu hängen ist nun mal nicht gesund für den Pferderücken .

COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!!!
Get those hooves sorted out!
They have to be longer to stop the legs being shocked because of the high step
The hackney moves a LOT like a saddlebred. Do they have the same ancestry?
They are very closely related, they both are known for their remarkable gaits.
@MsKnutschfussel1 agreed!

chapaillini THIS IS NATURAL OMG
How are they developing twh style gates? First of all a twh is a gated horse. Hackneys arnt
it seems like they have very long hooves
It's to stop the shock from the big step,
leiat8 This is saddleseat/Park style riding, not English. It was invented in the U.S. For the record, I am not a fan of it, lol.
actually saddleseat is a form of english riding divided into three categories based on the amount of front end action (in pleasure classes) which are country pleasure, English/show pleasure and park.

This horse weas not sored. This is a natural trot.

dont use Gods name as a curse word
Longer hooves reduce shock to the tendons from high-stepping, it helps prevent unnecessary injury :)
Can you imagine? The Brits have a style, the French have a style, the Germans have a style, and we have this.
No wonder we did so poorly in the last olypmics...
This style of riding is gourgous!
That’s just your opinion! If you have never ridden the discipline, try hard to keep your wicked heart from saying such negative things!!!
U just have bad taste. This is one of the fanciest disciples out there
@leiat8, what you've seen, I think, is people who happen to be Americans riding incorrectly! I've seen the travesty of a saddle seat in the show rings of gaited breeds. It stinks.
u are confusing saddlebreds with tennessee walking horses; twh industry is cruelty hands down but not saddlbreds.
that rider looks kinda scared in the beginning
These breeds can sometimes look scared or fearful, even when they are the exact opposite.
Probably that their new to that horse
*sigh* driving horses/ponies and high-stepping horses have their hooves longer for some reason that I forgot about
Why is the secound rider not wearing a helmet ? :p was it because she was more advanced?
It'll definitely be better if they wear helmets : ) Otherwise, looks great!
Emma Liu most saddleseat riders don’t wear helmets. they are usually 16 and older. no young child does not wear one. we didn’t ride for more than 15 mins
Y u no wear helmet!
Hm, yes I know but still it looks weird.
standardbreds and saddlebreds are not even similar, hackneys and saddlebreds are very similar.
I'm sorry, but this is a horrible example of riding (I'm a USPC A and USDF 3rd level Dressage rider). I hope it's her first lesson because this is shameful. Put your leg under your body for better balance so you can get out of the horse's face. Sit back and relax!
a dressage rider is not a saddleseat rider. you probably have never ridden saddleseat ever
I don't agree with big licks either!! Lazy training. Find and breed horses/ponies for this movement instead of breaking them down with weighted shoes and chains from the time their yearlings. the hackney pony does not do the big sick lick only the twh does and yes it shd b banned
Well, not everyone can ride at 3rd level dressage. Why don't you post a video of you riding and put it here so everyone can see how well you ride?
Horrible....
That's animal cruelty 👎, the hooves are manipulated and inflict pain! Disgusting 😢
Where XD
This looks so unnatural and uncomfortable ...
This girl is to big for this pony xD
wdym
Hahahaha..
You need a brain and some intelligent back up to your opinion. What style to you ride and explain how it's natural. GO!
Adelaide McAlister ?
Natural or not, it looks ridiculous.
looks ridiculous? whats ridiculous is how you probably jump your scruffy little horse over PVC pipes and milk crates and think your ready for the Olympics
poor horses with those long feet :( The first girl was definitely not ready for that horse in my opinion...
not ready? why? did she cry, scream, fall off or say she didnt want to? didnt hear/see any of that; did fine from what i could see.
there's a big difference between her not being ready for it and YOU not being ready for it Kids way younger than she is do this not only on ponies but large Saddlebreds at shows. get used to it.
Siri Vik the horse naturally trots like that
hackneys arent that talll
+Laci f There are Hackney ponies and Hackney horses, the video showed the pony.
+sonya steiner I have 2 hackney driving ponies... they are no taller than miniature ponies.
+Laci f The Hackney Pony averages in height between 12 and 14 hands. They are very definitely larger than a mini.
eqlaci yep, they are.
