After years of taking 4 BP medications and multiple potassium pills daily, I was recently diagnosed with hyperaldosteronism, which caused my hypertension. CT scans also confirmed nodule on my adrenal gland. Thanks so much for these videos you provide us!
So proud of you, Sanjay, for continuing your professional life and sharing with us in spite of the pain and grief you feel. Still praying for you. I know you miss your Dad and always will.
I have been listening to all your videos, they have helped me enormously. Understanding alone helps reduce the anxiety which in itself is a contributing factor with my high blood pressure. Thanks

Hi Dr G, once again an informative & concise video. So very helpful to understand the many reasons of high BP. Usually we are just told it's a high number, but the reasoning is on 'A Need To know ' basis, and as the patient, you don't need to know! Many GP's & Specialists can get quite afronted if you ask questions about your condition, been there several times!!! Sending loving thoughts & healing for you dear doc, don't worry, your dad's never far from you,he sees you. X

I am so glad that You are publicly addressing this issue. I had an adrenal adenoma that causes Conn's and Cushing's, but I had to be the driving force behind my Doctors to properly investigate it with me. I had the 2 diseases for quite a few years before anyone took serious action. I had to have a huge amount of tests before I finally had surgery ( adrenalectomy) to treat it ( Aldosterone-Renin ratios, saline suppression test and Adrenal venous sampling. Also multiple cortisol levels). Normally a unilateral adrenalectomy would have addressed the Conn's , secondary to adrenal adenoma, but I finished up eventually having both adrenals removed due to relentless Cushing's. As welk My blood pressure has improved greatly since the adrenalectomies ( right in 2018 and left in 2020). My blood pressure would get as high as 230/120, on up to 7 anti-hypertensives, prior to surgery and medication did not control it. I don't think I would have lasted much longer without surgical intervention.
hi , thank you for sharing your story , it really encouraged me! I'm 27 and blood pressure that stays on 150/100 on average, IV don't some tests, heart tests and blood test, I would like to ask my dr to check this test, what test can I ask my dr to do , to test what you had? God bless you and thank you
@@benjaminrifkin-savedbygrac6844 I had a lot of blood tests initially; mainly aldosterone and renin ( those two need to be done together to get the " aldosterone - Renin" ratio, (which will be much more relevant and useful than either of those alone) and blood, as well as saliva cortisol levels. I also had a CT scan of chest and abdomen, which showed adrenal gland involvement, although it is possible to have adrenal glands causing the issue, but it may not show up on imaging , which can make diagnosis more challenging. If the issue originates from somewhere else ( from example, the pituitary, or if it's pheochromocytoma) then other tests could be done to try and find the cause ( eg. MRI Pituitary, PET scan etc). Further testing would depend on individual presentation, but blood tests like Aldosterone- Renin ratio and cortisol levels are essential, in my opinion and experience. Sometimes it requires a few of these blood tests to catch the problem, where endocrine hypertension is the issue. It's important to be informed and active with a GP, and specialist ( in my case, van Endocrinologist and Cardiologist) to try and sort what can seem like a complex issue. It was slow moving for me for a while, and I went through a couple of Endocrinologists before finding one who took the situation seriously ( and it was serious) and did the proper testing. Educate yourself as much as possible and hopefully you will get a good team of professionals ( starting with just one good one can make a world of difference) who will steer you in the right direction. I'm sorry You are having these issues, but I am glad You are clued in and doing something about it now. All the best with a speedy diagnosis.
@@ProfessionalWidow291 Thank you so much for explaining this to me 💯☺️👌 yes ok, I'm going to the dr tomorrow to see if it my thyroid levels, I'll check somthing next, and keep doing that until I find the root cause, really appreciate the time you took to write this, Jesus loves you, thanks!
Yes, it's good to regularly check other hormones as well, with problems like this. I also have secondary hypothyroidism, which isn't as common as primary. Cortisol, Aldosterone-Renin, TSH , free t3, free t4 are good ones to start checking.
Condolences on the loss of you father,I am very sure he would have been so proud he had such a clever, kind son. This is increased and first reading was 21 and 2nd week is 18. Normal range is belwo 13.6. My age is 51 and I am praying that Dr can diagnose my problem now. Thanks to you for giving hopes and your way of explanation is wonderful. I wish I can consult you, which is not possible as I am living in Pakistan. Lots of love and prayers ❤ 🙏 💕 ♥
@York Cardiology : Sincere condolences to you Boss ... and thank you for your excellent and informative channel ... utmost respect to you for taking the time to educate and inform.
I just watched your video from 2019 on 3 things to ask if your Dr. says you have high blood pressure. Your opening described my situation exactly. My Dr. went right to medication. I even asked if there is anything I can eat more or less of or walk more? He just said no. and gave me a prescription. I'm 52 and have never taken any medication for any ailments.
My BP runs high consistently 140/90, I’m 20 pbs overweight. Today I took 1000mg of Niacin (B3) with lunch. Normally I take 500mg with a meal. Not thinking about my bp, I checked 2 hours after eating and was SHOCKED...118/74. I waited 3 minutes as I always do and checked again...Niacin did it, lowered my bp. I am going to start monitoring niacin intake vs bp
To be honest, I cannot even imagine the cardiologists speaking to me on this level. In fact, the last one couldn't wait to get out of the room and since he left this one seems to get pissed off when any question gets asked, as if asking means she's being challenged. The only way I could think to get their attention is to play this video for them. But I don't think they would listen. They don't care. Thank you for this education though. I've brought down my blood pressure, and gotten off the drugs, but I'm not sure what damage was done and don't know how to find out.
I agree one hundred percent. This man is a god-send. Dr. Gupta is what All doctors should aspire to become!!! I have a suggestion for you. If you are able to do so, then seek out a new cardiologist. Not all of them are of the low caliber of the two you described. Thank Goodness!! Wishing you Good luck and Good health.🙏
@@margaretcordova3268 I know you didn't ask me but I've got a suggestion for you. About 2 years ago I started taking a couple tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar every morning. Within a short period of time I was able to ditch my blood pressure medication. I am back to taking the BP medication now because of the fact that another med that I now take has interactions with the Apple Cider Vinegar. But was curious as to HOW it worked so Well?... and research showed me that the reason is probably because it contains a whopping load of potassium!? Anyways, just thought I would pass this along. (A BIG word of Caution here: IF you are taking an ACE inhibitor such as Lisinopril, do NOT add more potassium. It could have you reach a dangerous level in your blood stream pretty quickly!!)
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 I got off Lasaraton today. It was giving me horrible acid reflux! I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst case of acid reflux!!!! I was shaking so bad too! Apple cider vinegar does not have potassium in it. Meds destroy your system. I have gone down to one meal a day to see if I can lose my extra weight! I also try to take my kale shake everyday!
I wish more GP's (and in some cases hospital doctors) would screen for Primary Hyperaldosteronism, especially if you have resistant hypertension and on more than one BP medication. This disease is much more common than previously thought when Professor Conn did his finest work.
Thanks for this v. helpful advice and all of your excellent videos. Wish someone had posted this/these videos years ago where I could have avoided years of meds where at 55 Drs have only now discovered cause.

Niacin is good 👍
How has Niacin been working for you this far?
like father like son surely your father b kind soul like you. prayers for your father
@brussel sprout How did you lower your pressure?
How did you get the bp down?
Amazing stuff. Thank you doc
Thank you from Stowe VT.
Thank you so very much for this video. I became a subscriber because of the depth of information on this video. Thank you again.
