I have some time in the PBaron and it is a dream to fly. The door configuration is related to stresses on the fuselage from the pressure vessel. Smaller doors have less total pressure per side and the pressure vessel does not require as much bracing. Thanks for the video. Brings back great memories.
I just started watching your videos, i really love how you explain the Technical aspects of the flight so its not only fun to watch but a bit educational aswell, which i think for up and coming new pilots they will learn valuable information for their future in aviation.
Welcome to my channel and thanks for watching! I try to mix entertainment with informative without feeling like you’re being taught. Glad you find these videos fun and useful.
I have always wanted to fly a Baron. I just love the look of them. That would be pretty awesome to have pressurization in such a small plane. I hate having to wear a cannula. Great video.
Great video. I trained in an older 55 Baron with a Colemill Conversion. Those 300hp engines made a big difference on that airplane. And, it was lower weight as well. But THIS P-Baron has it all !
Lore has it that Beech moved the aft door to the left side of the aircraft, and reduced the opening size, to balance out the ‘large holes’ (doors) to one on each side of the fuselage to help with structural strength needed from pressurization. You’ll also notice there are significantly more rivets on the 58P compared to other 58 models. That and the left side door are easy ways of identifying the P model from others on a ramp.
Beautiful aircraft. Good video on a typical flight. Busy airspace. I used to fly 727 freighters out of Miami and Orlando back to Louisville. Finished up on 747-8 freighters. Now I fly my C206G out of Wyoming hometown to backcountry airstrips in Idaho,Montana and Utah. Sometimes I wish I had a turbo!
Was ready to hear “In the armmmsss offff an angel” haha. Can’t kill the vibe with sad dog video songs. Super interesting to see the difference in engine management with the turbo p-baron. Thanks again!
those 300hp engines certainly had a remarkable impact on that airplane's capabilities. Not to mention, it had a lower weight profile. But when it comes to this P-Baron, it truly appears to be the complete package!
It was a perfect flight all except for the singing part. :) Just kidding guys. Always a pleasure to ride along and you have developed Kim into a real great copilot, even if she does eat fat.
Enjoy your videos. While everyone's opinion varies, of the three, the later generation straight 58s with the IO-550s is my personal favorite. The 58P is noticeably heavier on the controls, and doesn't fly quite as well to me. And as you saw, it uses a lot more runway for takeoff. Accelerate/stop numbers are quite a bit larger. Harder to land, too. Faster, but burns a lot more fuel. Beneficial with a tailwind, but going high into an increasing winter headwind is a wash with the straight 58 flying at a lower altitude, yet it is consuming quite a bit more fuel. I ran into this situation frequently while flying it 135 many moons ago. Still a nice machine though. Thanks again for your posts!
So Awesome!! In a couple years I am going to purchase an 84 or 85 58P. I have searched TH-cam for videos of a 58P and wanted to see the pressure controls and I have found none until now. Thanks and the Baron is my favorite twin in fact got my multi many years ago in a TravelAir. Love the videos, keep them coming!!
Baron Pilot, as I started looking and I set a budget of $250K engines at TBO for a 58P, I really liked all the changes to that airframe and cockpit in the 84 and 85 models. I was thinking if I bought one at TBO I could drop reman engines in and would not worry about how someone else had flown them. Well the bad part is that I have to increase my budget to double or more than double to get what I want, lol. But the resale is so high on them, I think it would just end up being an investment that held value. I can’t wait to see more. I ordered a shirt too yesterday.
Cool plane. Looking forward the rest of the series. Sorry, can't think of any pet commercials, but thanks for getting the meow mix pme stuck in my head! 😵😉
Love my 58P! We fly ours about 220 hours a year and if you practice progressive maintenance annuals are usually less than $10k! We routinely fly 21-23k and get 220-225kt true. They become a different beast when you get above the teens. Also not a fan of LOP on a P baron the savings isn’t worth it. If you fly P barons fuel isn’t where to save money.
@@Chuckyeager1942 there is a wealth of knowledge on P barons at beechtalk. I do a mid year 100 hour and then the annual. Fly regular and respect the engines and it’s a beautiful bird. I do my annuals either with Broadies in FTW or a small shop at my home field.
Nice flight and thanks for all the great videos! I got a commercial tune for Kim to sing. How about the Ken-L-Ration one? You know, "My dog's better than your dog." LOL
As always, there is no prettier SIC than Kim... I'm still totally amazed though. How in the world does she keep SO thin when all she does is EAT? Its a mystery that's for sure.. Beautiful flight in an amazing plane... Like you said, the 'P' does everything well AND it's got A/C!! Yeah..... I know if I where in the market for a piston twin, I'd HAVE to give serous consideration to a "P"... Great video as always guys. I just love the way you guys always seem to have SO much fun flying together.... It's a thing of 'beauty' for sure....
She thought that was short the runway at my house is 2500 feet. It is tight for some planes. But we flew our Duke off it all the time. And a customer flew a king air in all the time
ding ding, we have a winner. Gotta spread the load. I'll bet the stringers are beefed up as well with an extra frame around the openings. PS. "animals are great, animals are great, animals are great."
That was a very well made video. I enjoyed it immensely. I do not have a pilots license. But I have spent many pleasant hours with a Baron on Flight simulator ten. It swiftly became my favorite of all the planes available. With it set to realistic I was able to take off from Meigs (which no longer exists in the real world) and make touch and go at Midway, then Ohare, and back to Meigs for a landing. I did it for the challenge and the rapid practice. You had to land on the first ten feet of runway at Meigs, and get hard on the brakes or you were going in the lake. LOL Another fun test was to take off from the field near Richland Center, WI then touch down at S&S ranch. I had to use the GPS to find S&S and get lined up for that. What drew me to S&S is the factory there where they make motorcycle parts, and the fact my father was born there in a house that is still lived in. Another one that has no room for mistakes, but it was fun. Some of the fields in Alaska were a blast. It might be boring to a real pilot like yourself but the scenery and the visual sensation of flying and landing safely were most entertaining to me. I subscribed so I can watch more videos from you.
Must be nice! Your airplane is at the Avionics Shop for major upgrades and you get an even better airplane to fly in the meantime. You must be living right!!
Probably my own OCD kicking in here, so feel free to ignore. The charge cord hanging off the yoke would drive me nuts. I guess in my brain anything that could possibly interfere with control inputs would bother me. I really enjoy your channel, hope we meet at Oshkosh or Sun n Fun when things open up again.
Cadillac of Barons is right! Many thanks for the memories. I hope you will be purchasing this plane, it is just amazing. Do they still have RMI these days, I did not see it on the panel?
High fat in a aircraft. Im low carb and at 74 i feel so much better then i did at 72. Getting better all the time. Enjoying your video. Why am i thinking of "Clutch cargo" :)
Great demo flight! P Baron is the way to go👍🏻. I’ll see if you’re in KPGD, next time I fly there to visit friends. Are you trading up, from the 55? Captain Dave, Cherokee six, Eric and Captain Valerie’s friend from sun n fun
Great to see the P Baron ! Really nice aircraft. But I still love your 55 , and look forward to see it when it comes out of the shop. A really nice avionics upgrade. Then, next up is air conditioning ??? Really need that in Florida., sorry kim. Thanks again for another terrific video !
Another superb video!🥇 I like the gnarly weather views and🌧 cloud fly-by shots. Also always enjoy the all pilot tech talk. Maverick: "I can hold my own." Charlie: "Great, then I won't have to worry about you making your living as a singer." greetings guys! you are great.
I never saw a checklist and noticed you landed with the mixture lean. Was that intentional? I'm going through MEL training now in a E55 Baron. Our checklist has us go full rich before landing.
Fine job in flying the P. You need to get your GF into the loop and she can be your co-captain and be a valuable asset with a crew concept. The P is a great plane, but your 55 is pretty hard to beat flying around FL and the SE.... just add ac and your set. I've enjoyed my 58 for over 25 years now, flying to every state in the US except Hawaii. Hard to beat and don't miss having a turbo or pressure for most of the trips. Now the trip to Alaska, pressure would have been nice flying over the mountains. Keep up the good work and let us know what you get for air conditioning.

That gear looked pretty awesome retracting over the end of the runway.
Another Great job, thanks for the ride.
I think the reason for the doors on the P being on opposite sides of the fuselage is to do with structural integrity with a pressurised airframe.

Attila Aszalos iPhone cord
I'm not a P-Baron owner but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Not sure they the door is on the left side of the plane, but obviously no barn doors is due to pressurization.
