This was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound using the Swampers, not the Silver Bullet Band. Check out the doc Muscle Shoals...where Aretha recorded her first #1 hit.
And it makes sense that Patrol connected it to the Allman Brothers, because Sky Dog made his bones as a Swamper and I'm pretty sure at least one other member of the Allman Brothers Band was one as well.
@@gregghelmberger don't think any other Allman Brothers were studio musicians ...Duane worked in Muscle Shoals BEFORE and while forming The Allman Brothers...that was why he left Muscle Shoals was to get The Allman Brothers Band going....and what a great job he did!!
I wish Bob Seger had made more Funky Songs like this! The Heavy Bass Line and Guitar licks combined with Seger's Powerful Gravelly Voice makes this song a CLASSIC!
I remember when this came out, I was in grade school. The prettiest girl in school danced to this in white hot pants and go go boots at the talent show (she had auditioned with another song). She got suspended for three days, and a legend was born. I'm 55 now, and I still think about her every Time I listen to it. How about doing Bob's song for the working man... Feel Like a Number? In reality, it doesn't matter which one you pick, they are all good.
Only true Seger fans would request Come To Papa...it's not played on the radio anymore. I thought I was the only one who listened to Bob's other songs...there's video of Bob Seger and The Heard...on a variety show . It's killer man. Bobby is really shy back then. His other songs not widely known, except to the obviously intelligent subscribers you have..Bob Seger System..then the Silver Bullet Band. I'll check the link to the variety show and send it to you! Man, I'm using my magic powers I got from my favorite witch Rowena. She's a Redhead. And as Bobby says, She's GOT THE FIRE DOW BELOW! AND THEY CERTAINLY DO!!
If you like this you'll love Bob's version of Bo Didley from the 1972 album Smokin' O.P's. Seriously funky jam. And of course the live versions are awesome as well.
This isn't a Seger original, but he owns it. First recorded by Ann Peeples as "Come to Momma", and later by Etta James. But gotta love the Pete Carr guitar. Amazing. Truly a GREAT recording by the Muscle Shoals musicians (aka The Swampers).
Patrol , I was at a Bob Segar concert in the late 70's . Yes it was awesome . After the concert I saw a high school friend hitchhiking and picked him up . I had the Seger tape playing and when this song came on he started singing at the top of his lungs then we all joined in . Everyone knew every word and beat change . Yes we were still feeling really good . Awesome memories .
Great Reaction. Just pick any song off his Live Bullet album. This was back when artist played what they wanted. Bob got very little radio play, but as you can see he had great music. Well until the 2005 and newer. It doesn't compare to his older stuff.
It would be really hard to say which Bob Seger is my favorite but this one is way up there. The groove on this one is just awesome. Thanks, Pat, for doing this one. Stay safe & stay strong. 💜💜
I like "Jodie Girl" by Bob , it's another one of his songs that make you reflect back on your experiences and picturing the ballad with your mind's eye..just a soothing tune altogether. Bob really felt that mixing rock songs and ballads brings balance to his shows and it sure did.
You do Seger, I'm going to listen. One of the best parts of my 20s. Love this guy. I remember we would drive down the road listening to Like a rock and not not thinking about no pick up truck. This is the man with some attitude.
'poppa' 'if you need a pacifier' ...oooo you nasty Mr Seger...one of the filthiest songs ever musically and lyrically - even has 70's porno wah...a great song that is almost a caricature of itself but is killer
This was recorded first as *Come to Mama* by Ann Peebles. That also has the "let me be your pacifier" line. However, Seger changed the "call my number, 568-6969, and I'll give you a fix" line from the original.
Lol. Pat, I have sent you videos of the accents and vocabulary of the Lumbee ppl around my area. I am also Lumbee but I wasn’t raised in the thick of that county/area. But, this is LOVED by so many men there. When hanging out, men call the females “mama” & males are called for “papa.” Lol
if there is one album to listen to-Smokin OPs (i know-everyone likes the Live Bullet, but OPs is a studio album with loads of energy and soul. BTW-he was offered at contract with Motown at the beginning of his career-he declined.
Any Bob Seger is fine with me, this is probably his most funky. More please"fire lake","famous final scene","Betty Lou's getting out tonight" and there is a lot more too ☮️
"Beautiful Loser" was the breakthrough song for him that moved him into the higher plane of songwriting that set the stage for "Night Moves". It's as good. Always better live than the studio recording, but it's in a medley with "Travelin' Man" which is nice and worth the time it takes to get the real treasure of "Beautiful Loser", which you must hear.
his OG stuff was more like this-try Heavy Music, Ramblin Gamblin Man, Lucifer, 2+2, Ivory, Bo Didley, If I were A Carpenter, Love The One Your With, Turn On Your Lovelight. A whole different world-not the ballads he put out in his career second half.
Lovin' the Bob Seger Patrol. You might want to consider the whole 'Live Bullet' album, although it is two records. I prefer the 2nd half which has more 'cookers' beginning with Ramblin' Man. Guy is great Live!
Just hoping you'll do one of my requests, you're missing out on a couple of Bob rockers. "Feel Like A Number" from the Sranger in Town album, and for a oldie but goodie find "Get Out of Denver." A decent newer song is "Aftermath," but I think I'm the only person I know who really loves it. PS: Still waiting for The Angels to show up. A nice rowdy live version of Am I Ever Going To See Your Face Again" would be the ticket!
One of many of my favorites. Bob Rocks.ty 4 sharing.
Ramblin Gamblin Man next!
Bob Seger & Glen Frey of the Eagles plotted their musical paths together. They made " The Right Moves ".

Bob Seger live in Detroit Michigan 1975 heavy music
Bob's got it ! Hands down & all around!
Bob Seger has soooooo may great songs !!!!!!

Bob's the Man!
There is no such thing as a bad Bob Seger song.
💯
Perfectly stated!!
New subscriber. I’m an old Michigander. Been listening to Bob since the 60’s. Loved the video 👍
I always loved the pacifier line!! 😳😂
That line was in the original “Come to Mama”, it sounds different when Bob sings it somehow. 😂😉
One of the most underrated talents.
Old school barn burner of a song
Many of his hits kind of sound the same to me. This is one STANDOUT! Love it! Great reaction!
Can't beat the blues and funk in this song!
Pat you bring me joy!
Great reaction, and subscribed.

Man, the Swampers laid down some of the best grooves in history.
Love Bob Seger! Enjoy your reactions.

Grew up with Bob, he's a Detroit boy, and that soul just oozes from him.
I see a St.Andrews in the backdrop, Seger is of Scottish descent.
some singers songs hit you and hang around you for awhile before leaving but bobs songs hit you and go straight to your soul to live
Forgot all about this song. What a way to wake up!
I’m by Bob as I am Skynyrd; he doesn’t have a song that I don’t love. I always enjoy your reactions.
I’m with you on that 🎸🎤♥️
Amen!
Always liked that song but as Time goes by I love It more and more ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
If you like this you'll love Bob's version of Bo Didley from the 1972 album Smokin' O.P's. Seriously funky jam. And of course the live versions are awesome as well.

Another great one is "Sunspot Baby"
Yes!! And The Fire Down Below
One of the top 5 singers that got me thru the 70's/early 80's, Old School Class of 77.
My favorite Segar....and he had a shit ton
I think Fire Down Below or Katmandu would be good follow ups to this one.
Awww man, this was my go to when it came out so long ago. Love him!!

Here in Michigan we call him Uncle Bob!
Love this song! I use to crank this up and go cruising!! ❤
Patrol , I was at a Bob Segar concert in the late 70's . Yes it was awesome . After the concert I saw a high school friend hitchhiking and picked him up . OMG I totally forgot about Betty Lou ! What a great song.
After decades I can still recall the first time I heard this song. Riding down the road in a dude's blue '63 split window Corvette. :)

THAT'S FROM HIS PLATINUM ALBUM: NIGHT MOVES :) COOL!
Fire Lake a great summer song.
You have to listen to Travelin Man/Beautiful Loser but it has to be the 1975 Live Bullet version
I agree with you on the Allman bros comparison. His voice sound a bit like Greggs. Just pure grit!😎
Traveling Man and Beautiful Loser off Live Bullet...Nutbush City Limits.....Main Street...Bob Seger classics
Horizontal bop and Makin' Thunderbirds.
Check it out.
It would be really hard to say which Bob Seger is my favorite but this one is way up there. The groove on this one is just awesome. Thanks, Pat, for doing this one. Stay safe & stay strong. 💜💜

One of my favourites is Manhattan from the it's a Mystery Album.
It is different but haunting and sad.

No one can say Bob Seger and I don't think... come to papa. Wow.
Give a listen to Bob’s song called Heavy music from the Live Bullet album.
Lovin' the Bob Seger Patrol. You might want to consider the whole 'Live Bullet' album, although it is two records. I prefer the 2nd half which has more 'cookers' beginning with Ramblin' Man. Guy is great Live!
Fire down below awsome song by Seger
