I think the weird cheep cheep kill happened because of how hits register in SMB1. It doesn't check whether or not you land on an enemy, but instead checks if you're falling at the time of contact, which results in some weirdness. Unless it's from the side, which means you always die. Don't quote me on any of that though, I'm nowhere near 100% confident on that.

I think Jump man and Pauline in the original Donkey Kong are different from Mario and Pauline in the Mario series, because Cranky Kong is canonically the DK in the original donkey kong, meaning Mario and Pauline would be significantly older and Pauline would not have chocolate brown hair, it only makes sense if Jump man and the pauline in the og DK were different people
