Oh my goodness! The suspense is killing me! Cannot wait to see what’s behind that wall and I am hoping that it is a mystery stairwell! I was already wondering why they didn’t have a second stairway in that house for the maids quarters! And y’all may have solved that mystery! You’re just the sweetest, sweetest couple and I just really enjoy and appreciate and I’m so impressed with your work on your Grand Lady! ❤️🥰❤️
I'm really enjoying watching you discover all the original features of the house. I find the music really distracting and much too loud. Please either turn it down or remove it completely.
I’ve never been so early to a TH-cam video before. I love these videos and I find you all to be a cute “little old couple.” I’m a 26 year old woman, renovating a 1897 brick house in St. Louis. I inherited the house from my father who in turn inherited the house from his parents. I’m living for all this. thanks for posting.
@@TheGrandLady Yes, it's quite a project. It's been unoccupied for the past 7 years. I grew up in the house but when we found lead in it we (me, my mom and my little brother) moved out while my dad stayed behind to renovate. He did a few things before the 2008 recession. After that, the house was a financial drain but he kept working on it up until I went to college. He passed away at the end of my 1st year and we didn't know what to do with the house other than maintaining the exterior part of the property. This year when we went over to it, we discovered it had been broken into, had some structural damage, and that we had a squatter. I took on ownership and the renovation in March. So far, I've had the back wall of the house torn down and rebuilt to fix the buckling. And tomorrow, my uncle and I are going to fix the front porch so we can start cleaning out the house without fear of falling through. It's been an unexpected, very expensive journey but it will be well worth it. My dad loved this house and it means a lot to me to save this piece of him.
I did my bathroom in all black and white tile it came out perfectly, I used the small hexagon coin dot tiles for the floor, a hitch black tile baseboard, white subway tile for the walls half way up with a black pencil liner tile trim and bullnose black tile to cap off the borders, then I did the shower tub walls white subway tile on the sides and black glass subway tile for the main wall, I used all modern white and chrome fixtures and got black porcelain towel bars and toilet paper holder from eBay. It came out very classy. I knew you would find your secondary staircase, just like I said in my last post. Every Victorian house had them. And of course the would be located near the dumb waiter for easy access. See you next time.
My parents' 1917 bungalow had the weighted windows, but like you said, they had access panels. I remember my dad having to replace one of the ropes! Your diligence found your panel!!
Can’t wait to see that mystery stairwell . Hopefully you can keep it as a secret access to the top floor all with hidden doors if in case there is an an existing stairs. Can’t wait for the next video.
Great channel lindsay. But can I suggest when you guys are talking. Don’t have music on. Only when you do time lapses or you aren’t talking. We all want to hear what you have to say
A house that size would’ve surely had a back stairway- looks like it may have been covered up by owners who hid the pocket doors. I can’t wait to watch you uncover them! I also love the “dry goods” pantry between that back area and the kitchen. Makes perfect sense. You guys rock!
You might try making your own stencils for painting the “wallpaper” wall! Or see if you can have stencils made for not very much money. Or invest in a cricut machine to make them... I love that wallpaper and I love that you’re finding a way to keep it in the house!
That wallpaper is gorgeous! However, it may possibly be the Emerald green wallpaper that was used back in the Victorian era. Would be interesting to have it tested to see if it contains arsenic. 😳
@@TheGrandLady check out the Channel “From the Mind of Christine McConnell”. She found some beautiful old wallpaper in her house and painted some damaged areas. She mentioned in the comments about possibly having hers tested.
Happy 4th!!! I can't wait for the next video... Yum homemade bread..😁😁😁 Love the goggles. Toilet heavy😂😂😂...Thanks for the laughs..You guys have a great sense of humor!!!! Mosiac rosette, yes!! Don't leave us hanging...
I like the rosette tiles. The bathroom is going to be lovely. That’s a lot for wallpaper and I think it would be great if you could paint the feature wall. I love your sense of humour!
Maid and cooks stairs to upper floors and to the basement. In some grand homes the kitchen was in the basement. Very standard for the time and nearly always opened into the kitchen
Here we go. Kitchen, pantry, servants stairs and attic rooms. All fits together! Please do not waste money on expensive wallpaper, explore your own talents and creativity. No doubt you can do it with handmade stencils and some paint. It is usually the little fancies that eat into the budget.
I absolutely love your videos! I’m a Syracuse native and currently study at SU. Buying a Syr Land Bank house one day has been a dream of mine for the past few years. Watching you both on the journey makes it seem even more possible ! :)
Chicago Renee is addicted to your channel & vids & beautiful home!!! Oh God, similar to my Grandmothers old house! Keep the walk thru closets, please dont close them off! Oh yes reconnect thee old stairwell and the dumb-waiter (even if you have to move it!) which I think you should rename a "brilliant" waiter, wish I had the patent on that!!!!
New subscriber since video #1. I so look forward to watching all the videos of this house’s renovation. You are a lovely couple and I enjoy listening to you both. Take care and be safe. 😃
I thought about what you said about the maids staircase. I do not agree with your thoughts. Even maids today do not break bread with you at your kitchen table or watch TV in your livingroom with you. That would not be the norm. They do their job and leave or have their owe accommodations. Yes there were classes back then, but it is still alive and well today. Some families are kind to their staff and some are not-just like today. Hiding the maid quarters/stairs is silly and hiding the fact that, at least, they had accommodations wrong. Well as long as they are not sleeping in a barn or should we take down barns? Also, then they should closed down all coal mining tours because minor children worked the mines...died in the mines! Where would it end. We should not hide our history bad or good. It's how we learn. If you want to make a hidden book room for kids that is ok. I just do not agree with your reasoning why.
I am enjoying being able to watch you both restore this lovely old home..I do not want to sound rude in any way..but the music is very distracting to the words spoken and the mood of the video..I honestly miss some of the information given because of of it..Maybe some soft mellow music would be better..The house will be lovely when completed..I wish you all the best of success..
your wall construction is LATH and plaster (rhymes with bath). A LATHE is a piece of equipment used in wood working, like your newell post finial would have been turned on a lathe. There are strict codes for removing and disposing of asbestos of any sort. It's not something that can be done properly by a DIYer. I'm surprised your job hasn't been red tagged.
AAAGGGGHHH! Don't leave us is suspense!! I love back stairways! Please tell me it's a back stairway!
Oh I hope you find the stairs. How fun!

Amen on the 🎶. Had to turn down the vol... then I couldn't hear their conversation.

Best of luck to you!! I'm glad we can share!
Just keep thinking about what it must be like to get a home passed down through the family. Girl! What a lovely gift!
And one more comment... Oh my goodness, what a project you have inherited! I hope you can save the house!

Leaving us on a cliff hanger??? Thank goodness the next one is on the playlist as I am 8 months behind :)
That wallpaper is really beautiful, but I wouldn’t put it in the bathroom. I would put it in the bedroom.

arsenic! Oh my... that would seem likely with the collection of other toxic materials we have found. I'll look into how to test it.

its crazy how much flooring layers there were in that bathroom :O . mystery stair case dun dun dun dun..
Ordinarily you wouldn't center the toilet on a doorway, but in some situations space precludes the "rules" of design.
Somewhere out there are several rolls of that wallpaper…forgotten in a corner….somewhere. I feel an EBay search coming on! Lol
The cliff hanger at the end!!! nooooooooo! 😅🥲
Oh my goodness how exciting! Watching eagerly in anticipation 👏

I’d do the bathtub pink cause you can easily paint it a different color and the black and white hex tiles
I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel yesterday I can't wait to see this beautiful house and all its Glory
THE SUSPENSE!!!

It would have been the servant staircase
The servants stairwell
Think a back staircase for the maid
look into making your own wall paper.
Do you make the computer mockup of the bathroom yourself? What program did you use, if so?
Hi ce January. I used home.by.me It's got a great free version ! Thank you for watching!
I’d love to smash my bathroom and kitchen!! Never say Never😂🤣
hahahahaha... Do it if you can.... it's cathartic!
Is that a Sears kit home next door?
I think it's a Dutch Colonial.
Good Lord you gave that toilet a wallop!
Hahahahaha... yup.
What is it?!?!?! Lol
Hahahaha!
We love your show, enjoyable, but please get better with the camera. When you swing it back and forth I get seasick.

What a waste of a old unit turning it nt a sink unit
