Feeding Hummingbirds and Sugar Nectar Recipe

Every year hummingbirds come to Colorado before our alpine flowers bloom. They are hungry after their long journey from Mexico and Central America. We believe the same hummingbirds are coming to nest on the pine tree in front of our balcony.
Recipe for sugar water:
The ratio of 1 part white sugar to 4 parts of water
It is not necessary to boil the water, you just need to dissolve the sugar and make sugar water solution. We boil the water because we want to speed up the recipe process. Extra sugar water can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Nectar could ferment or spoil and be dangerous to hummingbirds so it should be changed every 5-7 days or 2-3 days on hot summer days.
Do not use sugar substitutes, honey, brown sugar, unrefined sugar, or food coloring.
