The Accord Hybrid does not have a CVT. The hybrid system works in a similar way to a diesel electric locomotive where there is a generator creating electricity for a large electric motor to drive the vehicle forward. At highway speeds the engine and the wheels can be directly connected.
@Gabe Hernandez You're not getting it, this car doesn't have a proper transmission. Honda's hybrid system has no need for a transmission. The engine does NOT supply power to the wheels in a traditional sense. It supplies power to a generator, which means it doesn't need a transmission. The engine RPM went up during acceleration just because the electric motor needs more power, not because it needs to send peak torque to the wheels like in a traditional engine. At cruising speeds, the engine is mechanically connected to the wheels through a fixed gear ratio, so you can't call that a transmission either. Bottom line, no, it's not a CVT because it basically has no transmission. Have a quick research on how Honda's new hybrid system works, I'm sure they explain things better than I do.
I'm not sure about the hybrid but I have a 2020 Accord Sport with the 1.5 CVT V-Tech and I think I've only hit redline once because of its power capability
I have a 2013 accord 4 door exl 2.4 cvt and I have never hit red line. It can really get up and go. Sport mode always gets me in trouble. I’m always passing 2-3 cars on a highway all the time. I need a break for a while and I switch over to the minivan to cool down and chill. Cvt can be a beast in its own way, and still very misunderstood. I have seen a TH-cam video of a 2018 1.5 accord with cvt hit 120mph very quickly. Which really shocks me for that engine size. And the new turbos can still squeal out. Which is impressive for a 4 cylinder. I’ve owned 2 Accord 4 cylinders. 2007 and now 2013. They are amazing! 💯💯
I think there's lots of things to like about the car, but that CVT-engine combination isn't one of those things. It shouldn't sound like running out of steam at top of the rev range just to get to highway cruising speeds. I'd take this as EV with the engine as range extender over that frankly. The sounds Honda electric motors make are at least interesting (noticed that in the NSX too), that engine at constant redline just sounds annoying.

The E-CVT isn't a transmission, it's basically a system that controls the engine RPM based on the power that the electric motor needs, and there's no transmission in between the engines, electric motor, or wheels. looking at the hybrid transition on the screen, it seems to be all over the place, doesnt seem as fluid as the toyota hybrids when switching, charging and highway driving.

@Gabe Hernandez nvm, all cvts are fake at shifting lol. Because, cvts don’t have gears. They have manual “shifting” but it’s just the belt and pulley to set points to make it seem like it’s shifting.
Why can’t it be like the Hyundai Ioniq that’s hybrid but had a 6 speed automatic transmission... they could have done that for this car, would sounded better and driven better...
