I am looking at building a highly sustainable house in Nova scotia and plan to have an attached greenhouse like this! However my biggest challenge the rock.... The house is going to be on a hilltop with some great views, and while it will be south facing, it's on a giant chunk of solid bedrock. Sorting out an energy efficient want to build a foundation or anchor the house that doesn't allow thermal losses or insulates from the giant cold sink beneath me will be tricky I think. (or I could have it all wrong) I thought about using pillars or beams but again then you have the problem with cold air getting up under the house. Lots to think about thanks for making this!
I am also considering using rammed earth for my core walls!
I will also be only a few km from the sea, and there can be some cold/harsh winds off the ocean so I will be thinking about your air gapped facade for sure!

Usually the bad thing is the gold. Think about constant winds not as cold but wind energy. Lets say you have everything "against" however you have limitless free energy so you can get away with 1 layer of a nylon sheet and wind turbines heat up your not just your house but the whole neighborhood. th-cam.com/video/Nm3u1i1vdgc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=MaverickMansions Yes you can build a walipini like house basically partly under ground so its not facing the wind at all or you might build a greenhouse near it so it stops the convection. If you want i can make you a quick sketch in microsoft teams. Check the website for the best time.

Interesting! I’m curious what you do in the summer then to avoid the greenhouse overheating the house, or is there a way to use it to cool the house in the summer?

there are many ... however if we talk strictly just about the greenhouse itself the material van be rolled up automatically or replaced from 9am till 4-5 pm with a semitransparent or shading material double-ing it. Assuming most persons are not from home office or they same in 1-2 rooms even "pitch black" wouldn't affect them in those hours. However a semi transparent material would work out the best if the family is at home. Its not like we want to stare out the window for hours directly in the sun for hours. If we do we automatically role up the semi transparent or none transparent material for 10 minutes. The further is from the house the better it is. Because the foundation of the house and the earth near it wont be affected by the heat storage. Exception is the house that's built o piles.

@@MaverickMansions I'm one of those work-from-home folks who likes to stare out windows. haha. It will be a while before I have a house I can alter in any way, anyway, but I'm gathering ideas. :-)

So the idea is to just pseudovacuum-flask a home? Where the home on the inside develops its own micro-climate from the minimally thermal bridged external structure.
Then, if I understood correctly, the external structure can feed air to an above or side south-facing greenhouse as dehumidified air gets circulated.
    Did I understand this correctly?

the idea is we usually overcomplicate things...its sunny ...put it in shade and let the warm air go out... I the winter when it gets cold build a "greenhouse" near the house or at least build a barrier that stops winds convection to cool down the house ... and let the cold air get out. Imagine a plexiglass ram station in the bad weather. Its not warmer inside but it blocks the wind at least from 1 direction.
