It's not all about life extension, it should be about extended quality of life.

It's the same things.. a quality life leads to life extended

@@staged00 Life extension could simply be a person in a coma on a ventilator and tubes all hooked up to them. Since they are not dead, that is life extension without it being having any quality of life. So wording makes it clear.

@@lightdark00Low protein KD. anaerobic exercise. strict IF 20:4 AND FMD cycles to prevent inflammation and thus anabolic resistance in sarcopenic muscle I would consider to be the gold standard for min-maxing lifespan with a dose of healthspan (if you're not trying to look like a bodybuilder). - Meat based KD sprinter

@@staged00I know a lot of elderly who have longevity but are spending years bedridden waiting for someone to wipe their backside.

The academic research describes that as "healthspan". Most review papers on CR mention it as a specific factor. For example: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9036399/
There is pretty extensive research showing that in runners, for example, lifespan is increased, but "healthspan" is increased even further. So runners not only live longer lives (ON AVERAGE), but have more productive, high-quality, enjoyable years of life, with later onset of chronic age-related disease. The headlines about runners having anywhere from 5-12 years of extra life might not sound like a big deal, but when you incorporate "healthspan" it's a huge effect... more like 20 extra years in my personal opinion.
If you're a younger person ("younger" being less than perhaps 65-70), you might think that not eating meat and having to be committed to an intense exercise program are lifestyle changes that "decrease your quality of life". If so, get back to me when you're suffering age-related diseases, in chronic pain, and struggling with daily functional tasks... you might have a dramatically different view by then.

Great video. I was 'fat fit' prior to the Covid pandemic, as I got in a reasonable level of daily activity walking during the daily office commute, and did gym 2 or 3x per week (most weeks) on the way home from work. But after 3 years of 'working from home' I hit age 62 having put on an extra 10 kg weight in the past few years and now having less muscle mass than just a few years ago (noticeably in the legs). So I'm now having to do caloric restriction to try to shed the extra weight and continue down to the 'healthy weight' that I always should have maintained, PLUS at the same time eat enough protein to try to maintain lean mass by doing 3x/wk weight training. My overall body fat % shows that I have lost quite a few kg of lean mass now that I've got back down to the weight I was a decade ago, so really need to focus on preserving (and adding, if possible) muscle mass while trying to reduce body fat.
Once I get down to my 'ideal' weight I'll have to see what my body fat % and lean mass is, and decide if CRON seems sensible, or if I need to focus on keeping up the protein intake to support weight training to try to regain some of the lost muscle mass... each case is individual, so there is no "one size fits all" approach to optimizing health, fitness and longevity.

For myself, I am down 70 pounds on a high satiety, low glycemic index diet. Fatty steak, eggs, green veggies, etc. Blood work looks good. And, hiking for exercise.

I followed keto for almost 4 years and did well on it. I ate green and cruciferous veggies and berries. Then I started researching gut health. I now follow a more plant based diet eating poultry and fish and limiting saturated fats as they can be detrimental to gut health…

What people need to understand is there's only two states to the human body, anabolic or catabolic states.
Protein is not stored by the body at all, so every meal counts, we are only anabolic for 2-3 hours max after our last meal. All the servicing of dead cells can be done when we are sleeping 8 hours. Muscle and high quality protein are everything. In fact, there are clear studies that have been done that just by eating high quality protein alone can stimulate muscle growth, it is tiny but still important.

Then why do the OMAD bodybuilders still look jacked as fuck? They do eat protein. Their bodies just aren't stupid with storing it in the Amino acid pool (MTOR) and then giving it up in response to exercise. - Meat based KD sprinter
