    love it. I really struggled with how I wanted to build our bed. I had this kind of in mind but didn't really know how to execute. Going to make some modifications to yours. On the sides, I will mount rails attached with unistrut that the frame will bold to. The interior piece ( slide out ) will be on long drawer slides so that it slides a little smoother, yet it will still rest on benches like yours when it comes out. Instead of felt, I will put plexiglass type material or an acrylic plastic on the bench rail, and on the bottom of the bed slide so that it slides smoothly. You did felt, I think the acrylic plastic may slide a little better. We shall see. Thanks for sharing, you guys did an amazing job.

    My wife and I just bought a low roof promaster and have been talking about building a “garage” in the back with a pull out bed like yours. We are tall and can’t sleep sideways! You mentioned that if the slats are too wide the mattress sinks in…, you could always have 2 pieces of 1/4” plywood that just lay in place that you could side out to cover the slats and make it a solid surface. We want to use a queen inflatable mattress so it can be stowed away in a tub and our other camping equipment just left in the “garage” in tubs, bungee’d in place! Right now I designed and built a couch/bed that is 3 pieces of 3/4” plywood that shoves back in and folds up like your mattress! But I like your designs! Especially the dining area benches!!!
    Thanks for the ideas!

    Thanks for the excellent video and bed design. It's the best sliding bed I've seen yet. Do you have any detail about how you attached the sliding slats to the faceplate? Does the faceplate sit "on' the verticle plywood wall when closed? Thanks!

    Hi Ben,
    I really like your video. I think you've perfected the slide-out bed with the back that seems to just pop up into place. I'm curious as to what makes that happen?
    Also, I used the 4" version of that tri-fold mattress (with full plywood below) on another build and just ordered it for my new build. From what you know, do you think we'll feel the 2" slats thru the 4" vs. 6" thick mattress?

    • @getaway_guide

    Any reason why you couldn't have done the bed lower to floor for an extra seat when not in bed mode? Was it just because you wanted the extra garage space?

    • @getaway_guide

      You would lose storage and the backs of the benches would be an awkwardly low height, but other than that, no you could totally do that.

    Another question please? If the front to back dimension is only 46"+, how can the 2 sections of the mattress that are inside it fit when they are 26" each (78" long divided by 3). Two sections would equal 52" + the last mattress section which goes upright at an angle. All this must exist within that front to back dimension when the bed is retracted. Maybe I'm missing something?

      Ragingriver check out the video again or look at these trifold beds online. There’s a few ways to fold them up, but the “shortest” configuration would be two vertical slices (which would equal approximately 12” or 6”x2) plus one horizontal cushion as a seat (which would be ~26”) so minimum of 38” and would easily fit in their layout.
      ^all of that likely makes little sense but hopefully looking at the pictures online will lol

    With that style mattress are you able to slide the bed half way out and use it as a chaise sofa to watch movies on a projector screen in the front of the van? I'm picturing 1/3 of the mattress behind you to lean on, and 2/3 out for your legs.

    • @getaway_guide
      @getaway_guide 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      honestly, that's a great idea but I don't think it would work with how it folds. We pretty much do just that, but we just pull it all the out and then use the back doors (with pillows) to lean up on.
