    Since it's so cold there what about doing an actual Bee house? A small out building that is completely insulated. The bees have an outside entrance and you have a entrance on the inside allowing you to check on your bees at all times, as well as a place for all your bee keeping stuff.

      One of my deliveries last year he had, what he called a bee barn. He said it worked fantastic. No major losses since he put it up.

      My bees have survived -40°F up here in Northern Minnesota. You may have had a ventilation problem that allowed moisture to build up. I leave my screened bottoms open. I also use wood shavings in the top box (no bag) but then I put in 1/4” spacers on the top so air can escape from the top - allowing the he hive u it to breath up from the bottom. I used no extra insulation on the sides of the box, but the boxes get full sun most of the day. Sometimes bee colonies just die though…

    that a honeybee will die within an hour if the temperature drops below -2°C (28°F). If the temperature is between 9-12°C (48-54°F), bees fall into a chill-coma where they can survive for up to 50 hours if they are then warmed back up to room temperature.

    You can buy honey bee hive heating pads. They sell 12vdc versions so you could set up a stand-alone power system with a small solar panel, solar charger, and battery.
    Some RVers use them to keep their Lithium batteries above 32degree F so they will take a charge during winter months.

  • @kevinwhitehill7049
    @kevinwhitehill7049 ปีที่แล้ว

    Insulating your hives in your climate is wise however you have to be sure to leave the opening clear so they can leave to gather water as needed. That would also mean keeping snow from blocking the opening as well.

    You need to look at a European flat hive house which can be heather in the winter. The hive house is well insulated, and it makes it easy to work the Beas in the winter and also helps to keep the hives from over heating in the summer.
    The hive house has 3 horizontal hives , and when you go inside of the hive house it looks as if you have a bench on 3 sides of the house on the inside.
    The house I saw they actually had 5 hives in the house 2 on the long wall and one on the short wall.
    When I first saw it I thought it was a garden shed, but the 8 holes in the shed walls with bee gates gave it away.
    In Ukraine in the mountains this is very common and in the park in Khmelnitsky was such a building in the birch forest in the park.
    Talk to Doug and Stacy about their European friend he has been teaching Doug about bee keeping, their channel is off grid with Doug and Stacy and they are from Easter Missouri.
    as for the stain you are you using, it remind me of the water bed I had, that was the exact stand used on many water bed frames.
