I think these headphones are ridiculously slept on, even now. They are nothing but a pure joy to listen to. It's nice to be able to also catch little details in the mids that other more detailed headphones sometimes miss because of how they present ALL the detail all the time. The Aeolus has this knack for presenting details in a surprising way because of how it doesn't just dump it all in your ears. Delightful cans!
It took forever to get mine. Was around this time last year when I ordered them and I must of hit the worst possible window because it was pretty much April when I finally was able to hear them. Great headphone though, I really go back and forth between it, a DCA Noire, and Stellia as my favorite in my collection. It's not very resolving but it's has really great harmonics. I love good distorted rock music with them. Well-recorded music of the 60s and 70s seems at home with them. They have a very (cliche to say) natural sound, lil intimate at times, especially vocals, not the widest sound stage, but with them Universe Suedes they're super pleasing. I just tossed their Lambskins back on to give them an honest try, but it's really hard to beat them Suedes. Congrats on the headphone! It really has a charming sound signature, cozy, home-y, just a good time all around.
I had some universe leathers on hand, and swapped them in the other day. I think they were on for all of two songs. Not sure if the stock pads are on mine, they look like microfiber and are perforated. I should probably look into it more.
@@MrAyrit My guess is those are the Universe Suedes. They're exceedingly popular for the Aeolus and if I'm not mistaken, ZMF changed the stock pad of the Aeolus to the perforated Universe Suede. Mine came with the Aeolus specific perforated Lambskin. They can add a bit of wonk (technical term) in the upper mids, I never gave them a chance. I read what others recommended and made sure mine included the Suedes. I swapped them Day 1 and never really looked back till now. I think the Aeolus specific Lambskins add a bit more bite but also some reverb (thus the wonk) until the material wears in a bit. I'm really enjoying them at the moment. I can see selling just about everything in my collection but I'll be buried with Aeolus if I don't pass it on as an heirloom. It's a goldilocks experience to me.
@@MrAyrit I just picked up Auteur Hybrid Perforated pads for them. Stellar combination. Adds more bite while maintaining the neutrality. It's a more aggressive, energetic listen but doesn't sound as blunted as the OG Aeolus pads. I'd recommend giving them a gander if you're looking to pad roll.
ZMF Aeolus is legit my endgame. I keep coming back to them, even after hearing the Verite open and closed and other headphones around that price. They are excellent, enjoy! My favourite pads on them are the old Aeolus stock pads. They have so much character with those pads.
Hi how about for movies, gaming and nature videos? I like to watch nature recording on youtube like the ones made by kazephoto. Does Aeolus immerse you and make you feel like you're in the movie, game or in the nature recording?
This is super cool! I NEED zmfs when I'm back to work this season. Luckily since I have no kids currently, this will be very do able. The fiance will kill me, if she ever knew what they were worth tho... I'm considering going with the Verite LTD
Hello, thanks a lot for a very good and useful review. How would the Aeolus compare to the Focal Clear MG and the Hifiman Ananda? I ask because I'm planning to upgrade my Ananda with the Aeolus (I'm also considering the Focal), and use them with a Naim Atom Uniti Headphone amp. Regards, Ignacio
Hey man any chance that you could add time stamps in your videos- at least for when you start talking about sound. Sometimes I just want to know that and I feel like your reviews are well structured and consistent enough that timestamps wouldn't bee too much of a pain
The wait for mine was unbearable at times. But I love them. I need to get the suede pads though I have the sheepskin aeolus pads and the universe pads. They are great. A work of art. But are they worth $1,000 more than HD 6xx....no. I'll never sell them though.
Been considering a few headphones...LCD-X, He6se v2, and these. So I already own Focal Elex, 6xx, Radiance, Clear MG. Recently sold Elegia and DT 1990(that mount beyer spike is a killer). I worry the Aeolus might be TOO chill though coming from Focals. Do you find that the highs sound recessed compared to he6? I primarily listen to electronic music which is why I've been considering planars that are known for good low end extension. I have no idea what music you like so idk if you can help lol. The ZMF build/comfort and natural sound is calling my name also.
Yeah, I'm not a big electronic person, but the Aeolus was great for acoustic stuff. I've heard some pretty wonderful things about the LCDX, but haven't tried that one yet. The Aeolus will definitely be more chill than the Focal stuff, at least with the pads I had they were. Have you experimented with Dekoni Fenestrated pads on the Focals? I'd say try those, and if you like the direction they go, I think you'd like the Aeolus. If you prefer the sound of the Focals with the stock pads, then I'm not sure the Aeolus would be a good match.
I believe most people have said that’s the case. I never liked the 6xx much, but I did really enjoy the Aeolus. Not sure if I’m the best person to ask though.

Great video! I’m so jealous. Lol. I have been waiting a ZMF headphone for a while. Thanks for the straight forward review.
I can relate to the look on your face when you opened them up! 🥳

good to vocals and rock music?:)
@@wolandphotography Yes, probably the best fit for that.
@@bitterbuffalo8997 thank you, i think it about those or heddphones One, hard decision:)

They’re a great headphone. However, I can’t advise keeping things from your partner!

@@MrAyrit thank you very much!

Yes, the general consensus is the Aeolus and/or the Aurous Audio Borealis are the logical upgrade to the HD650/6XX.
What's your favourite pads with theres MrAyrit?
I had (what I think were) the stock pads and some Universe leathers. I thought they sounded waaaay better with the stock pads.
@@MrAyrit OK cool. Stock pads are universe perforated lambskin. Universe perforated suede are optional.
@@bitterbuffalo8997 I had the suede.
