Hi guys! Cesar, what Pfaff are you using here? I would love a walking foot. Especially this controllable. Awesome video, as always. You are my therapy. Thank you.
Hi Lynn, I am using an old industrial Pfaff 1245-706/47 heavy duty, walking foot (triple transport)th-cam.com/video/U3HBXBDDKoo/w-d-xo.html It is similar to Pfaff 545, 145 and 1445
For the real big MBenz panel I only used automotive leather(basket weaved design in grey and embossed grain black) 'yellow glue', and thick polyester threads as decorative. I just used the same pad the panel has...I only cut the pad to the botton on the 'low relief strip' where the joint was glued down. It is advisable to glue up the whole area of the panel to leather material. For the small samples, they were made from scratch. I used a hard cardboard as a base, then for the high and low reliefs some thinner and softer cardboard(insole cardboard shoemakers use) and an addition of 'eva material' as a pad to add more softness to the touch; and of course leather material and yellow glue.
Would like to know what type of YELLOW glue you recommend. Which brand is best and where do you get it? I must commend you on your videos!!!! I taught for 28 years.
I used a 'hard cardboard' as a base and a softer/ thinner one on top to form the reliefs...besides, I added some 'eva foam' to give the 'softy touch'. BTW, these products are shoemaker's supplies. Thanks for watching the videos!
Thanks for appreciating my job! ...Interesting question! ...In fact, the 'real door panel' was glued all over (black leather) its surface to help give the shape it has...except the texturized grey panel. I'd like to add that the 'yellow glue' I use is a 'solvent based glue' and it sticks very hard when it dries.
Thanks for sharing the idea of 'double sided tape'...BTW, I'd say many russian car trimmers are at a high level in leather upholstery...I enjoy watching a lot of nice jobs they post on instagram on the Hog Ring Forum...They're very inspirational.www.thehogring.com/
+REMythic7 Thanks for appreciating my craft!...I'm using a yellow glue (contact cement/adhesive) which comes in cans or bottles and it is applied by a brush or spatula. The 'eva foam' I use is for one go...once it's glued down, it is very difficult to pull up.
+Iftikhar Choudhary Thanks for appreciating this work! ...as for the switch, at any moment, I have to put it in right position...anyways, it's only a sample I did for the shop.
It's a solvent based yellow glue....to have an idea, check:www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-Weldwood-32-fl-oz-Original-Contact-Cement-00272/100125525 www.ebay.es/itm/Petronios-Master-All-Purpose-Cement-Glue-Shoe-Repair-Adhesive-Glue-4-oz-/291064753112 www.tandyleather.com/en/product/tanners-bond-craftsman-contact-cement Do a test beforehand.

Hello, I enjoy your videos and have a question about applying vinyl to abs panels. I restored a 1955 f100 truck with modern 1996 police interceptor drive train. I purchased a nice interior abs molded kit for headliner , rear panels and door panels. I installed the vinyl to match the leather on the seats I plan to recover. but the glue turned loose and came off the abs. I used high quality 3m spray adhesive. I have done upholstery work for years but never on abs. what do you suggest I need to prep the abs with? Thanks so much! and thanks for all the videos. David
Hello David, I've realized most of 'glue sprayers' are not strong enough. It's different the spraying of 'yellow glue' applied by a 'spraying gun' and air compressor or by hand with a brush. TBH I do not have experience on abs plastics. But I could give an idea to improve the adherence of glue product. I have used a trick on another projects. It consists in applying a coat of glue as a 'primer' and let it dry hard for one day...then, I could proceed to stick the vinyl the readitional way we know. I think the main idea to solve this issue is 'prepare' the surface of that 'slippery/oily plastic'. There are products used as 'primers' to paint cars/plastics which could help to 'prepare' the surface and get a better adherence. It would be advisable to practice on small areas to be sure. I've heard about 'yellow glues' in USA some upholsterers use: www.dap.com/dap-products-ph/weldwood-landau-top-trim-high-heat-resistant-contact-cement/ angelusdirect.com/products/all-purpose-shoe-cement www.ebay.es/itm/Petronios-Master-All-Purpose-Cement-Glue-Shoe-Repair-Adhesive-Glue-4-oz-/112032405167 www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-Weldwood-32-fl-oz-Original-Contact-Cement-00272/100125525 Hope it helps, Cesar
Thanks. I spray cars and have a plastic adhesive promoter but I was concerned about the adhesive for the vinyl holding to it. I also found spray paint made to adhere to plastics and thought that may be a good base. Believe it or not it is a latex paint for vinyl siding. It's a little rough as it's satin. And it sticks to the spray shield and siding so well I had to sand it off. Thanks for the advise. I'm a JW and do volunteer work after retirement so I don't want to spend a lot of money on a sewing machine. Walking foot machines are hard to find used in a price range I can afford. Thanks
David Krebs hello i know ita late but from experience, the surface needs to be prepped a much as much as possible in order to adhere to abs. I mean like not "light" sanding but heavy scoring and scratches is the only way. At least that's what we used to do and it helped. Keep up your service brother!
I have used a light purple size 207 polyester thread and thicker size 277 for the dark purple thread. To join the grey embossed leather piece in the center to black surrounding leather piece I used a thin polyester thread size 92 black color.
Hello, thanks so much for appreciating this job. Do you really want me to do yor MB? I am located in Mexico, perhaps a little far away from where you are.
+RPS Tactical +RPS Tactical These leathers are 'automotive' and not so expensive here in Mexico...suppliers do not sell it by ounces...they sell measuring it in square decimeters...a dm2 of cow leather fluctuates from 2.50 pesos to 3.00 pesos...a full hide of 500 dm2 would have a price of 1,250 to 1,500 pesos...converting to US Dollars 66.10 to 79.32

I used a 'hard cardboard' as a base and a softer/ thinner one on top to form the reliefs...besides, I added some 'eva foam' to give the 'softy touch'.
BTW, these products are shoemaker's supplies.
Thanks for watching the videos!
respect perfetto lavoro
Thanks for watching!

Nice video! Thanks for tutorial!
I usually use thin double-sided tape for smooth large areas instead of glue.
Belo trabalho!
You are awesome! Very nice craftsmanship.
What glue do you use?
When you glue foam down, can you pull it up again and redo it with the glue you use?
+REMythic7 Thanks for appreciating my craft!...I'm using a yellow glue (contact cement/adhesive) which comes in cans or bottles and it is applied by a brush or spatula. Check these links: it's used to stick formicawww.homedepot.com/p/DAP-Weldwood-32-fl-oz-Original-Contact-Cement-00272/100125525

The 'eva foam' I use is for one go...once it's glued down, it is very difficult to pull up.

Thanks for appreciating this craft!
nice clean work.. though you might want to redo the upside down power window switch.. ☺
+Iftikhar Choudhary Thanks for appreciating this work! ...as for the switch, at any moment, I have to put it in right position...anyways, it's only a sample I did for the shop.
Good job, whats the name of that glue you are using
It's a solvent based yellow glue....to have an idea, check:www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-Weldwood-32-fl-oz-Original-Contact-Cement-00272/100125525

I've heard about 'yellow glues' in USA some upholsterers use:

Keep up your service brother!
very good
4:15 window lifter button upside down :)
It was corrected. This panel is a decorative in my shop.

What size thread are you using here? My Consew 227 can only use up to #207. But what you are using looks so much thicker.
I have used a light purple size 207 polyester thread and thicker size 277 for the dark purple thread.
To join the grey embossed leather piece in the center to black surrounding leather piece I used a thin polyester thread size 92 black color.
Amazing please do my Mercedes now

What type of board is that? Where can I purchase it from?
What is the leather oz that you are using for the leather to wrap.
