Stephen if you are going to highlight plants in your driveway in a future episode, could you please include Sassafras albidum. Episodes always entertaining. Thank you.
I agree that viburnum " onendaga" is great... Those lace cap flowers are terrific. I have my 3 in high shade so the fall color isn't fabulous but it "pays its way" as you say....m
Thank you! Some of my favorites with brilliant colour in Rotorua NZ include Stachyurus praecox, Fothergilla major, Lindera Angustifolia, Hamamelis Diane and Amelanchier canadensis. Most also have interesting flowers, the stachyurus racemes are fantastic and the fothergilla both great for picking and some have berries for the birds so they really earn their keep in my garden.
Stephen, yew really need a Tupelo. Nysa silvatica is our most vibrant fall showstopper. So few people plant it here. Whadda shame. Eye’m on Long Island, zone 7.
Even though it's not a shrub, a shade loving perennial that I would suggest for autumn colour is Hosta plantaginea. I have quite many different species of Hosta but none of them can beat the plantaginea when it comes to autumn colour. It turns a bright and rich yellow even in complete shade. Reminds me of Ginko foliage... Thank you for another very informative video, nice to see someone enjoying autumn while here in the northern hemisphere we're approaching the hottest weeks of the year🥵
Hi. I am in the UK and we are in the middle of summer. Love the autumn colours. Wondering if they will work in Southen England? That is if they are available here 😮
This was really interesting. Autumn is my favourite season due to the colours and cosy vibes! I already know about the Japanese Beauty Berry because a hobby of mine is collecting fountain pens and inks and pilot has an ink named after the beauty berry-murisaki shikabu. It's a very nice and somewhat popular purple. I also recognise the leaves of the ginkgo as I recently bought an RHS orchid book second hand and there were some dried leaves in it! I don't know why they were there, maybe a bookmark, but I'm happy to now be able to put a plant to the mystery leaves.
Not sure when it will be up , it’s all dependant on my web master. Nursery purchases are of course best but I can organise mail order through a friend who is a mail order nursery. Regards Stephen
@@thehorti-culturalists perfect! Is there an email address I can contact you as there are a couple of plants I’m looking for that you have had in the past?
I googled that viburnum. That is the most beautyfull viburnum eye’ve ever seen.
It is great isn’t it? Regards Stephen
Excellent video. You two never disappoint! Clever conversation with stunning plant selections.
Thanks for watching!
My Rhus Tiphina 'Dissecta' was absolutely STUNNING this year!! I'm in Eltham, Melbourne. 🍁🍂🍁

They look beautiful. Are there any of these that will survive in South west of Sydney?
The Gingko and the Callicarpa should and I wouldn't hesitate to try some of the others. Regards Stephen

Thanks for watching - and what an interesting connection to ink!
Hi There. Will Ginkos grow in clay soils?
they probably will but some soil preparation wouldn’t hurt I must say. Regards Stephen
What are your favourite hardy shrubs and trees for Autumn gold or yellow foliage? Am based in Canberra Australia
Dwarf Ginkgo is a must, Stephanandra, Lindera obtusiloba is stunning, Rhodotypos, and Tulip tree or Liriodendron to name a few. Regards Stephen
@@thehorti-culturaliststhanks! Got to try them all😅
Would the Viburnum sargentii 'onondaga' be a good pot specimen?
Not long term as it has a quite vigorous root system. Regards Stephen
Stephen, is your website going to be back up soon? And will you be offering shipped plants or in nursery purchases only?
Not sure when it will be up , it’s all dependant on my web master. Nursery purchases are of course best but I can organise mail order through a friend who is a mail order nursery. Regards Stephen
