    Lockdown number 3 in the UK: I have spent a wonderful diverting hour and a bit watching this. 33 years later, I am still a fan of the wonderful Midori Ito. I know you posted this 3 years ago, but thank you so much, it is really appreciated.

    I’m sorry they eliminated the school figures. They’re the basis of the finesse and the beauty of skating. Skating now seems to be all about jumping all over the place. Of course that takes extreme skill but I miss the more artistic programs.

    I'd love to see a set of non-biased judges (if that's possible), re-judge this event. I guess it's all a matter of personal opinion, but I think I would have had them in a different order just based on this short program. I just judged the short myself 34 years later on the original judging system and scored as follows: Karen 59/58=117 (1st), Debbie 58/58=116 (2nd), Katerina 57/59=116 (3rd), Midori 59/56=115 (4th), Liz 57/58=115 (5th), Jill 57/57=114 (6th), so I would have basically tied Debbie and Katerina with Debbie having the higher technical mark, so 2nd and 3rd respectively and Midori & Liz with a combined 115, but in order of the technical mark given them 4th & 5th respectively. Again matter of opinion, that's why judging is so very controversial. I thought Karen was completely underscored with a beautiful program and difficult combination. Midori had the most technically difficult program. I thought Katerina and Liz sold their programs very well, but weren't as difficult. Jill had a difficult combination, but I didn't care for the landing. Again this is just my personal opinion, so don't beat me up too bad for it.

    It's really interesting to see the figures segment here. Sonia Bianchetti is wrong at 9:00 when she says the sport is only called "figure skating" in English, it's called "figurnoe katanie" in Russian (and the Russians are rather good at it!)

    • @RaymondHng
      @RaymondHng 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And in Bianchetti's native language of Italian, the sport is _Pattinaggio di figura_ !

    well, mr. hamilton…it did not kill figure skating. and judging by katarina's figures…they still kept her high in the rankings even though she was so slow. it's good they got rid of figures.

      Actually it took 10 years but it killed it. Figure skating aint mainstream anymore like it used to

    Manley and Ito had the skates of the night ! What a farce.

      In the short? No way on Manley. In the long yes. In the short she had the 2nd easiest jump combination after Witt, and bobbled it, and bobbled a spin too.

    Kadavy by far deserved the first place ordinal in the SP. This was an example of politics, and the sad thing is that the CANADIANS and the RUSSIANS were sleeping together at this Olympics, notice how they were judging in bloc to help each other. In every event. And they always marked down the US skaters

    • @johnnolan5579
      @johnnolan5579 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If the Canadian judge was sleeping with the Russians, why did he/she mark Manley lower than most of the other judges?

    • @metsdudenj
      @metsdudenj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnnolan5579 The Russians and Canadians were sharing votes in Mens and Pairs and Dance scores. Not sure about women because the Russians didnt have a contender.

      I could not agree more about the short program. Kadavy was the best by far with a difficult jump combination and beautiful artistry throughout. Manley was given a third place gift. I would have had her behind Trenery since Elizabeth's slip up on her spin was on an easier move than Jill's slightly off balance landing of her more difficult combination. I would have placed them: 1. Kadavy, 2. Ito, 3. Thomas, 4. Witt, 5. Trenery, 6. Manley. Manley clearly and fairly won the LP.
