I feel we need to review this man’s mustache. It’s very tall, disappears into his nostrils, and doesn’t mix well with his nose. I find it glitchy and stylistically confusing. It adds some color and has a decent vibe, but doesn’t add much to the overall project.

Alone again is easily one of the sonically most pleasing songs ever, how is it a bad intro? He basically comes down in a spaceship and takes you for the ride that this album is.
I think people are so used to listening to random songs on albums that nobody is realizing how conceptual this project is. Its literally a movie and every song has a reason. My only problem with this review is that you cant critique the album by just critiquing the songs, but rather the cohesiveness of the project. Thats the point of an album

Schmiddiize couldn’t agree more. Alone again might be my favourite track on the record. He comes in with instant emotions and it’s just chills. You feel it. To be honest I wish the track stayed true to the first half of the song longer but the beat drop was interesting.

i think thats alot of people's problem with melons reviews. I still respect and mostly value his opinion because he explains his reason behind his opinion very well but there are certain reviews that i think are just bad. Not because he likes or dislikes a project but because sometimes he doesn't explain his reason for liking or disliking it well and thats the entire reason people like his reviews. Go watch his House of Balloons review and you'll know what im talking about. Its like 6 mins long and he barley even talks about the music but mostly talks about how the lyrics are shitty basically because they're shallow and trashy. For some reason he just couldn't understand that the trashy and shallow lyrics were self aware and displayed how he justified his toxic behavior but consciously had many insecurities and thats why people related to it and held the record in such high regard. When melon does talk about the music in the review, he doesn't explain his gripes with it well, and completely misses the point of the record by boiling it down to the "fuck boy" type of lyrics. Its like he assumed there was no depth just because the lyrics were basic on a surface level.
What? Mine is opposite, I always see him as the guy who always take an album as a cohesive narrative rather than a bunch of songs that are meant to be enjoyable
Overall, great review Anthony. However it caught me a bit off-guard when you started describing how attractive the girl from Uncut Gems was and then proceeded to give her a rating of a 'strong 9'. Very unprofessional.

I think you need to listen to the lyrics, i thought the same thing upon first listen but i decided to listen to it when reading the lyrics off Genius and this album is a 10/10 its a story...in the beginning he speaks about how hes taking off his disguise and returning to his old ways then he cheats om his girlfriend and speaks about how hes hard to love on Hard To Love and apologizes about putting her through all that pain then on Scared to love he's apologizes for damaging her coz he was the only love she knew so she scared to love anyone else because able damaged her so he tells her she shouldnt be scared to move on e.t.c and then on the next song(Snow child) he speaks about how he cheats on her in a studio because he cant control himself and how evil the girls in Cali are because he's a slave for pussy when hes off the liquor...the hook even says "cali was the mission but now a nigga leaving" which references a 2011 song during his come up saying "cali is the mission" he also speaks about how its portrayed as a great place with flashing lights which isn't true as he's discovered, Before he speaks about how he wants to leave Los Angeles coz of the temptation and all the negative stuff that happens including how he cant trust anyone because his girl told him about some guys who buy her purses and spend money on her and stuff resulting in him wanting to leave on Escape From L.A coz he cant trust anyone and he says "got everything i wanted, got the money got the cars but none of that matters without you" because she left him and he has nothing left that pleases him so he decides to just "escape" from L.A, the chorus even says "this place will be the end of me, take me out LA" so he leaves L.A, California and goes to Vegas which he said makes him feel at home earlier in the album and does drugs there thats why the song has an upbeat tempo which is probably a metaphor for him being high off the drugs and the first lyrics say "never need a bitch, im what a bitch need" but earlier in the album he said "she dont need a man shes what a man need" this is just the first half of the album, so you hopefully have an idea of where the album is going

@@staigenerator2949 lyrics have literally never been the appealing part of the weeknds music. Its how he structures his projects. All of the weeknds best projects(trilogy mixtapes and kiss land) have never had the most mind blowing lyrics but what all those projects have is cohesiveness and thats what makes them special. I remember when kiss land first came out people thought it was mostly mediocre(including myself) but most of those same people now think its his best project. Those projects have aged well, not because the lyrics are great, but because the more you listen to them, the more you understand the overall theme and why the songs are made the way they are. There are so many people that work on his albums. If they thought that the lyrics needed to be stronger to make it better, they would definitely make it a priority but they don't because there is no point. If anything it would take away from the structure.

It doesn't really matter because hopsins songs turn out shitty either way but uzi can make a good song even if the lyrics are basic as long as its structured. Thats why some of the best rappers dont have the best music. They can rap but they focus on the lyrics more than the other elements of what makes a song good. Every S tier rapper that makes incredible music balance's it out(Biggie, Ab-Soul, Jay Z, etc...). Jay Z is a better(IMO) and more memorable artist than Nas because he makes better songs and doesn't make his lyrics the ENTIRE appeal for every song on every album.

The first song is mixed PERFECT. If you pay attention his voice gets progressively less audible and more layered and programmed sounding as a stylistic choice. I LOVE the mix on the whole record but especially that first song. Some people will understandably not get how this LP is a sonic masterpiece. The mix style and overall aesthetic is ahead of its time I think.

You didn’t even mention the heartbreaking story telling behind the project or how Abel took references from cinema. On top of that I don’t know how someone cannot like Alone Again or Until I bleed out unless you’re just not a fan of the synth wave sound. This needs another review 💯
dont be too mad. Melon does this all the time. Its kind of understandable tho considering he listens to so much music but its still a let down. Also i was screaming at the end vocals of the first half of Alone Again so I agree lol.

I think this album was highly inspired by Scorsese’s “After Hours”. The album, just as the film, portrays a series of misadventures that take place in a New York night. Here though, Abel talks about his misfortunes with Bella. What was supposed to be the joy of togetherness quickly turned into a living nightmare, where everything bad that could possibly happen to him - happens. Perhaps, all of it, thank to his own bad decisions. That in my opinion explains the slow build up, nightmarish aspect, and different tones in this album. Just as Paul Hackett in the movie, Abel is trying to make his way home through this whole LP. He’s trying to win the love of his life back.
