Absolute respect and admiration for this great trumpet-artist. I never heard about M. Novikov; now I'm a fan. C'mon, guys, the tempo is entirely irrelevant. Pay attention to sound, intonation, control, interpretation, endurance, and respect to the music.
One of the most beautiful and impresive performances ever! his tone, his endurance, his sound quality, I never get Tired of this gentleman sound, my very best version, the last movement is very emotional and sad , the piano player, , thank you very much.
I double checked just to make sure it wasn't my computer speakers, but his intonation is so impeccable that you can clearly hear the overtones around 3:40! Such a beautiful hall to perform in.
I agree that it’s probably echo, but whatever... Love how the sound lingers in the air just a millisecond before seemingly dissolving back into the ocean of ambient air. The hall does have an echo, but in my opinion just enough to brighten the sound and not so much that it overwhelms it. Fabulous performance, great acoustics...what’s not to like?!
Impressive performance! Great sustained sound with eye for details. Tempo first movement quite slow, similar to a Maurice André recording I found. Many different interpretations can be heard on TH-cam. The fastest I noticed has been a Wynton Marsalis recording, for my taste too fast. This video suggests a live recording which can be true. Nevertheless you never see the performers and the audience together neither you hear an applaus at the end. The Hindemith sonata is a great piece for the trumpet repertoire. Thanks for posting it!! Remarks by Theo Hartman, trumpeter with Continuous Brass
@highnoter1 : looks to me as if he is playing on an old (and not expensive) Yamaha trumpet. If I am right, once more this man (with a really great performance, wauw!!!) shows that not the horn is the most important, but the person who is holding it.
The movement ends with a fitting musical allusion: a borrowed line from the chorale by J. S. Bach, Alle Menschen müssen sterben (All men must die), BWV 643.
And I would say that what he is playing on. Now this is solely based on that fact that his lead pipe is inverted. Most people that have this done do it for a freer blowing instrument, which might suggest a custom job or even a custom horn.

Tempo is entirely relevant... how else do you expect me to hold out those notes with endurance if not rushing through it all?

Still the best version on TH-cam.
What a great sound and definitely great endurance!!! 👏👏👏👏🎺

Andrew Ladd I think that might be the echo of the piano chord.
That's deffinatly that piano and echo in the background.
nice job with the Schilke. Bravo!

Bravo! Taking it this slow is no joke.
Litteraly the best Performance of the Hindemith I have ever heard. That tempo is gruelling!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I am in awe of this gentleman's understanding. He has my deepest respect.
What a wonderful resonant sound! I love the solidity of this gentleman's masterful playing.
The accompanist is also brilliant. I have tried to accompany this piece and it is SO DIFFICULT!!
Wonderful performance !
Um trompete suave! Magnifico!!!!!!!
I agree, and to think that this is a live performance is crazy.
What deaf fools give this a thumbs down!?!?!:) this is amazing trumpet playing, some of the best I've ever heard, maybe best tone ever
Realmente hermosa esta sonata. Muy prólijo este trabajo.
Amazing! thank you very much Vadim Novikov and Michail Mishin.

I love this piece and this recording! I am playing this as my Solo and Ensemble piece this year, and am looking quite forward to it!
Excellent performance! I play piano accompaniment, it is very hard piece, GO MISHIN!!! :)

Vadim Novikov is better..
Grabs the mood of the music more..
More feeling than WM.
The movement ends with a fitting musical allusion: a borrowed line from the chorale by J. S. Bach, Alle Menschen müssen sterben (All men must die), BWV 643.
Great performance.
Are there any pianists out there able to accompany a trumpet player for a recital of this piece on 12th August?
Is that never ending blow in the end? Or what the hell is it xD fantastic work!!!
i played this piece in the 7th grade...but i used to practice eight hours a day or seven to get throught it...nice piece

looks like a yamaha shew model to me
I've been playing this accompaniment for years without anyone to play it with... *sadface*
I agree but a horn can still limit the performer. Such as my $100 beginner to my $2,000 1976 LA Benge. I've noticed a drastic difference.

Winton is not better dude.
winton is better
